If you talk to gotalot and Hawk, they will tell you cotton is king. Try it for yourself, cheap option, get some sterile rolled cotton at the pharmacy (or cotton balls). Just keep in mind that cotton is thirsty and expands like crazy. I think gotalot has a good vid on rolling a microcoil and a cotton wick on the Igo-L.
I went on a cotton run, but to be honest, I only like some liquids on cotton. Hawks DIY is mixed at 33mg or something crazy so I am sure he can't taste anything but his liquid - but in lighter vapes (like Nicoticket fruits) the cotton does a number on the flavor.
Silica is a great bet. I linked a guy on the nicoticket facebook that offers good quality silica cheap. He also offers A-1 Kanthal. I only keep 32gu and 28gu on hand myself... I know there are plenty that play with 30gu and 34gu but I haven't got any experience there.
Another option, to make things more complicated, is Hemp Twine. That's down the road for you though. H1N1 tastes great on hemp, as do other net tobaccos I've tried (including Boba's Bounty, KY4, and Halo Prime 15)
Get high quality silica - I have concerns about the cheap stuff that flakes off and has the potential to land in your lungs.
I am a cotton and igo-l ...... Guilty as charged! I prefer cotton to silica and ecowool but that's my personal taste. I chain vape and cotton has some awesome wicking power which leads to no dry hits and the flavor is outstanding. I am back to using only enough to have one side of the wick on the deck. I think to much plays with the overall airflow and takes longer for the wick to break in. Again, my personal opinions.
My Reo came into today but beings I worked last night, I didn't get to the post office in time to sign for it so bright and early Monday morning, I will be waiting in the bushes for the mail lady to open up the post office. What can I say, she has something I want!
Well, my coil being all over the place, I can't be sure of wattage, but I had started off right around 3.5v on a 1.5ohm atty, which is where I was comfortably enjoying the CLS at. I might've tried to go up a couple volts to test it, but I quickly realized it was a lot more delicate and couldn't handle the same heat as CLS so I dropped to around 3.4v. But perhaps by then the damage was already done (and the caramel had been scorched on the coil). By the time I started seeing problems, I was all the way down to 3.2, and then even 3.0v, though the atty wasn't hitting at all anymore by that point. Of course, the droppage in ohms, even as I was dropping the voltage, would've kept the atty hitting hotter than intended. I guess that in starting off so high to begin with (which as I said is where I was enjoying CLS at) the caramel must've crystallized on my coil right off and everything just went downhill from there.
