Hands-on report #2...

OK, I revisited the P3 as promised. I did a lot of juice tasting with various attys. I compared the 'delay' in VW vs VV modes, and they were identical. Both took about 2/5 of a second to 'sizzle' (some/all of that time is coil heat-up time). So, VW doesn't take any longer to fire than VV.

I was the only one at the vape shop, so I played with the menus extensively. I spent a good 1/2 hour just playing with the menus. I ran through each of the 5 menu speed settings, and by the end of 1/2 hour, I felt most comfortable with speed 4 (with 5 being the fastest), but manged just fine with speed 5.

Menu scroll speed is smooth (not jumpy like the videos you've seen - it's just an effect of the camera on the display). Also, the display is SHARP - something else lost in the videos. I played with all menu brightness settings. They're flickering the display on/off at high speed (you can't see it flicker, but if you wave the P3 like a wand, you can see the on/off cycles). The first-level menu has very few settings, so scrolling through them takes no time at all. In fact, most of the menu levels had few options, so if you miss, you don't have to wait long. Another behavior observed was that you only get 2 chances to scroll through each menu level, and if you do nothing after watching them scroll by twice, it exits.

Changing from VV to VW (and vice-versa) is simple as selecting menu option 1 (power up, as we're used to), and waiting a couple seconds for it to change modes automatically. Another observation - if you hold the button down when changing menu options (such as increasing/decreasing voltage/wattage), it auto-increments faster than you'd be able to press the button (unless you're lightning quick).

I did have the problem others talked about with the 510 connector coming off with the atty, but also took Vape360's advice and tightened it down with a penny, and didn't have any more problems after that. Fresh out of the box (well, it's been played with a lot I assume), the 510 connector was raised above the 23mm ring surrounding it. The first tank I screwed on (ProTank-II) did not sit flush. It wasn't until I tightened the 510 connector with a penny that everything sat flush.

One problem I did have, which was unexpected during my tastings, is a carto tank got stuck on it. I've never used carto tanks, so lack of experience may play a role. I got the carto tank screwed onto the P3 just fine, but couldn't loosen it without sliding the tank up a bit and using needle-nose pliers (gently - it's not possible to screw a carto tank on too hard in the first place).

All-in-all, it felt very familiar - like a ProVari. I love the display, and personally, the random button color (nice touch).

That's about all I can think of now. Feel free to ask questions and I'll do my best to remember. I can always go back and play with it some more too...

You mentioned heat up times...
Did you play with the Hotshot Boost at all?

I get the impression that with this mode (even at the lowest setting), will make the P3 feel more like a mech mod, in the sense that it will heat your coil(s) faster...

Haha, funny you should mention that. Yes, I did play with it. I was at 12W already on a ProTank-II 2.0-ohm coil, and it went POP! I'll have to go back with my own coils to further test that feature. I felt bad I popped one of their taster coils. I had my Origen v2 on the Nemesis with me, which has a 0.32-ohm build, so I knew the P3 wouldn't fire it.

Looks like I'll be getting a P3! I just sold one of my 2.5's and I always like to have a backup. My P3 will he primary and my 2.5 will be backup.

My dealer started a preorder list and I'm first in line, but I'll want to know what Provape is going to charge for them first.

P3 its now or never, I am losing interest fast............
Thanks for adding nothing to the conversation. If you want it now find a dealer if you don't wanna do that oh well. It does no good to come on here and add a short post crying that you didn't get what you wanted as fast as you want because magically we don't really care if your feelings are hurt.

John, Outstanding posts! VERY helpful. :)

Maybe @Vape360 can help us or ask someone in development for more details on the "Boost" given your experience. I certainly don't want to jump to conclusions and would prefer to hear directly from our beloved "Mothership" with respect to "protection", "limits" and any other details ProVape wishes to provide with respect to the "Boost".

/fingers crossed

:)

Ok, I read through the first 17 pages of this thread, and then jumped to the last. I saw it at a B&M and tried it. I hear a lot of people complaining about the design and wishing for the tear drops. I think that look is a little dated now and it looks ok as it is. Lot of new useful features, I like that it takes the 3 battery sizes, the floating pin, accepting flat top batteries, etc.

Here is my biggest gripe though, with all those menu features, waiting for the option you want to scroll, etc is such a pain to do with 1 button. It would have been so much easier to navigate if they had additional buttons or a multi function button (one that you could push up/down/left/right and center).

I'd really like to hear back from Provape on that decision.

Hi SeniorBoy,

Not sure if you saw the previous post with the details of the boost mode, but it outlines the different boost options and times. Since we are still in Beta I don't have all the details as for the power level but in time we can share more about that. Checkout the full description as it provides details on how that feature works.

As for some of the other questions, it's been a very hectic week so we are a bit behind. Just allow us a little extra room as some of the questions need to be answered by our engineering team and they are pretty much locked up in a room right now and we won't let them out until they get some of their work done :)

We wanted to stay true to the original ProVari which is a very popular and familiar design. We looked into joystick style switches at one point but it didn't work very well. The number one comment I've heard from our beta testers is after a day or two with the new menu they like it and are able to cruise through without issues.

You can also increase the speed of the moving icons so as you become familiar with the menu you can work your way up to speed 4 or 5, and it's very quick to make changes. I can see if someone is visiting a Vape shop and using it for 10-20 minutes, it may be a concern, but once you have owned a P3 for a day or two, it's actually very easy to use. Similar to the original ProVari, once you have used it and know how it works, it's a breeze.

It's like with anything new, you just have to play around with it and get used to the new features, then you are a PRO!

Having a joystick would have allowed us to load up a game of Pacman on the P3 screen, but we decided to skip that option for now.

Now I'm just so anxious to know "HOW MUCH!" and "WHEN!" I really didn't expect to sell one of my 2.5's today, but when I mentioned I was thinking about getting a P3 to a fellow vaper outside my office building, he asked if I wanted to sell one of my 2.5's, so I told him how much and he opened his wallet and handed me the cash. Thank goodness I had my other 2.5 with me! But I like having a backup and hope the wait and price won't be too bad/much!

Thank you. Yea, I saw your post on the 5 different durations/times the Boost is deployed. Not to worry, MOST of us /lol are patient and understand the complexities of a launch so when the geeks in the back room are granted freedom and hopefully lots of Pizza, I'm quite confident that we will learn much much more about the Boost feature.

:)

Do all of the Provape retailers have this beta to test? I noticed that Roar Vapor is a Provape retailer and I'm heading down there in the next couple weeks. I didn't know they had a B&M presence until I saw that they were a Provape retailer.

As far as I have read (on this thread) the B&M's have them, if they've ordered them!
So maybe call ahead, and find out if the one you're going to, has one!

My B&M in Tampa has one and they're really enjoying and quite impressed with it. Though many of the "dudes" there are dripper RBA Mechanical guys, so their only complaint is the 20W limit. I was surprised when I asked how many people are on the waiting list for one and the manager looked at me and said "you can be number one if you like!" So I said OK!
