Official ProVari 3 Thread - P3

As I mentioned in another post or thread, my B&M wasn't even aware Provape let us know they had them or that anyone might stop by to try it out. And the salesguy just handed it to me without any direction. But I got into the menu system and found it pretty easy to understand and change settings on. I'm sure once these puppies are in our hands, we'll quickly master the menu.

Yeah, I hear ya RB. I think one of the "problems", if you can consider this a problem, is that there are so many new features in this device that unless you spend the time with the device and actually read the documentation some of the new features won't be immediately apparent. And I don't think most vape store employees are really spending the time to learn the P3.

The good news is that the P3 is designed so that you really don't need to understand all the features to use it, although part of the enjoyment for me is playing with and testing the new goodies. But the P3 design is such that if you can figure how to set your power level (VW or VV) and you can screw on an atty you really don't have to know the rest to get a really good vape. If there is any problem the P3 will tell you what the problem is and how to fix it... in plain English. Brilliant! But you will get much more out of it if you learn a little about the features and how to use them. But I agree it would be good to see vape stores be a little more informed about this product so they can represent it fairly since it has so many unique features. I sure hope Provape ramps up their marketing machine before release though since I don't think most vape shops are going to be a big help getting all the info on the new model out.

Unfortunately, my time with the P3 is about up and I need to return it to the vape shop that loaned it to me to do a tech preview. So...so...sad. I have really enjoyed using this and checking out all the new stuff. I'm sure there will be a P3 in my future though when it's released.

But one other thing I wanted to talk about is the Onboard Troubleshooting System (OTS). I really thought this was going to be just a feature for the noobs, but I was really wrong about that. This will be a great benefit to everyone. Everything from notifying you about shorts, low ohms, high ohms, atomizer connection problems, mod resistance problems, saggy azzed batteries, power set too high or too low, and many other conditions this really works well. And it tells you in simple to understand language how to fix the error. Not all errors result in a non-firing condition, but the P3 also throws up a caution to let you know there is a problem that is keeping you from getting the best vape possible. If a caution sign shows up on the firing screen a new menu item shows up in the main horizontal menu with the same caution sign that you can view to see what the issue is, and of course how to fix the issue. This caution sign will only show up as a menu item if there is a caution event. So it's not just for extreme errors that keep you from vaping, it also lets you know what issues need to be addressed to get the best vape possible. So the P3 is monitoring vape quality as well as safety issues. Now that's really cool, and really advanced. Something even seasoned vaping vets are going to appreciate.

Sorry for all the posts lately, but I really wanted to discuss some of the really unique features I've noticed before I have to give the device back. Of course I could always pack up my house, move to another state and go into hiding with the P3 beta. But I guess I really need to give it back.

You just sold a few more P3's for ProVape

Pretty sure there isn't another mod out there that monitors the health of all the different components the way the P3 does. Pretty impressive stuff.

But there is ONE area that I really think ProVape missed the mark on with the P3...

Hey.....I have MVP's as well and I resemble that remark... They don't get as much love as they used to (and deserve) but I still take out R2-D2 and C3PO for a spin now and then. I don't hesitate recommending either to any vaper.

The MVP2 is a liberating experience when you travel. It's internal battery life is just insane and you can charge it so conveniently with a standard micro USB charger.

I hate having to pack extra batteries and carrying them around. So on days I know I will be away overnight, my MVP is with me. Close to ProVari vape quality with the added convenience of insane battery life and convenient charging....What's not to love. I don't think any ProVari owner should be without one.

If some freak accident happened that simultaneously took out both my ProVari's I'd have no problem vaping my MVP's until I can replace the ProVaris. They are my "disposable ProVari's" if you consider them going on a year old and still going strong being "disposable".

Wow- just caught up to this thread-

I have to say, I’m truly disappointed… I mean c’mon… I’ve been waiting for this since thanksgiving 2010 and all you guys gave us was multi colored LED’s in the button?… Where’s the GPS? And what about the internet of things? It’s worthless if I can’t control it from my iphone. Also, I’m really ...... that I can’t blow myself up with this device. After all why can’t I overload those 18350’s when they run down to 3.4V by trying to pump over 20 watts? It’s my decision isn’t it?. Surely you can tell the difference between a new 18350 and a 3 year old 18490 by running some kind of forcing function algorithm and dividing by the natural log of the square root of pi and running a Fourier transform against it. And naturally you could also tell what brand of battery I’m running, if it’s IMR or protected, and what country it was manufactured in. I know because I read it on the interweb. This is 2014 after all and that 32 bit Intel Atom processor can power a tablet… or even run windows RT right? Heck, that’s more processing power than was on Apollo 13! Last but not least, where’s the “Do What I’m Thinking” button? I read that the DNA4x was going to have one of those and I for one am leaning towards holding out for it…. And while I’m at it, you have some nerve trying to develop a delivery channel and getting leveraged feedback from real vendors who have multiple contacts in their stores as opposed to some select group of random individuals who undoubtedly will be viewed as a shill if they like your product too much. I’m personally insulted by your lack of consideration for the 10% of the existing vaping population – how dare you stretch the 80/20 rule!

Thanks to the guys taking the time to write up the reviews. I have to say I’m impressed although not surprised. Going by the reviews and the specs, it looks like Provape did a great job with the P3 and I can’t wait to get my hands on one. While part of me wishes they had asked me to review this one and I’m jealous of those who got one, I really don’t have the time or energy this time around to do it justice. I think Provape is doing the right thing long term trying to build a distribution channel and having B&M hopefully evangelize the product for you. Give those distributors and resellers a chance – if we had more of them around maybe we wouldn’t have as much negative sentiment from the anti-smoking crowd. The rest of us cognoscenti can wait a bit longer or as has been suggested, buy through one of the B&M’s.

Personally, I’m glad they addressed the top cap and pcb mount (no more glue)- clearly a lot of thought went into those , and I'm delighted that they increased the power level by 33% and allowed for lower resistance and 5A limit… The variable power – well, most of us know it’s not really a big deal but I’m sure I’ll use it…, self adjusting center pin, and new top cap design boost, IQ, and new menu features etc- no arguing that a lot of work went into the design- I suspect like the earlier versions, much of the real value is going to be what doesn’t happen or what you don’t notice once you get past the new toy and learning curve.

Someone made an analogy to cars- this is the next version of the car you want to drive to work every day regardless of the weather. The AC works when you need it, it gets good mileage, it’s predictable and respectable and feels good on windy roads but doesn’t shake your fillings out on normal city streets - how about a Porsche Panamera Turbo S? …. If you want a track car, don’t expect to drive it in the snow, sit in traffic, or handle normal roads with potholes in them very comfortably, and don’t expect to have room for your groceries….

Last bit… you guys speculating on higher wattage, wish I could agree with you but think about it a little harder- specifically for an 18390 when it's exhausted at 3.4 or 3.3V- do your math again. 20W @ 3.3V = 6.06A …. I also think some of you are a bit overoptimistic with figuring out what battery is inserted- Granted there is a lot you can tell about a battery by monitoring it, but determining weather it's an 18350, 18490 or 18650- …you can get the internal resistance of the battery but that's not enough without a whole bunch of other assumptions.

I've said my 2c's .looking forward to placing an order....

Horrors! Even if you got a P3, how could you even consider ditching the V2.5 that has served you so well?
