Mowgli have you seen the World's End trailer yet? If not......................................

Holy crap I can't wait!!!!!!! I've been looking forward to the final installment of the "Blood and Ice Cream" trilogy for years and this looks so worth the wait.

You better tell me if you get a press screening, I will never forgive you if you don't!!!!!!!

Yeah, so I just watched Upstream Color and I feel like any words I can say about it will not do it justice. It is certainly not a movie for everyone, both the people I watched it with gave up 30 minutes in, one left and the other fell asleep.

I however at the moment think it could very well be the greatest thing I have ever seen and I cannot put into words what I am feeling right now. If anyone else has seen it all the way through please tell me, we need to talk!

If you enjoyed his first film "Primer" then give this one a chance. If you attempt to watch it please, please do not give up. Yes there are very long stretches of this film with no dialog but it is incredible. You very well may hate it, it my make you sick and confused but it is an experience.

Shane Carruth is a genius. He wrote, directed, starred in and also composed the music for this film.

Well I know what I'm doing tonight. I don't even remember hearing about this, did it come out in theaters or straight to video? I know for sure we didn't get it.

It came out in 42 screens (good number!). Shane self distributed it because he didn't want to risk the film studios trying to change his vision in any way. I respect the hell out of him. He wrote, directed, shot, scored, edited, starred in and self distributed this film. My favorite part is unlike most actors that star in their own films he takes a complete backseat to his female lead, there is absolutely no vanity in his performance.

I have watched this film 4 times now, yes I am obsessed

This film is about so many things, and will take you on a journey of emotion. Like Primer it is a sci-fi film on the outside but so much more on the inside. I feel like I am saying too much about it actually. Just have an opened mind and don't go in trying to figure everything out Just take it in and let the experience wash over you.

If you hate it, I understand, as I said it is not a film for everyone but let me know either way after you watch it.

I just got around to watching it last night, and I completely understand your obsession now. Word of warning people, do not watch this film at night if you have to be productive the next day because you will be up all night thinking about it.

My little tv does not do it justice but I need to watch it again to fully wrap my head around it. Aaron, do you have it on Blu-ray? If so you should bring it over here and we can watch it on the big screen :sneaky:

Oh you are good! Yeah I now have it on blu-ray, actually I bought four copies, one for me and three to give away, your welcome to one if you want. I'm busy this weekend, maybe next week we can do that. I would love to watch it on the big screen with good audio, this film kinda demands to be felt as well as seen. :pop:

So glad you enjoyed it!

You convinced me to give it a shot, saw the cover on Netflix and I remembered someones avatar was the same thing. I'll let you know in a bit what I thought about it. The Dude, Abides.

Upstream Color. . . well, it was a movie that much is for sure. Is it a Walden thing? I must have missed the whole subtext of what was going on because I have no idea what the movie was about other than some plant that produces a drug that hypnotizes people, nothing was explained so I found no answers. I doubt I will watch it again, but if you (morningshadow) could shed some light (ironic) on what I just watched that would be great.

Ok, the thing about this movie is that you can't go in expecting answers or to know exactly whats going on because the outer sci-fi story is not really important. People will see it as some sort of puzzle but it's really not.

The film is about a lot of things. It is about rape (maybe non literal but rape none the less) and violation in the beginning, then it delves into the long term effects of that violation because when it comes to something like that the act is really only the tip of the iceberg. It does get pretty literal here with her trying to cut it out and then the hospital scene where they go into the internal damage.

It is also about identity and how important our identity is to us and how we would react if we lost our sense of self. The colors play a role here because a big part of it is about awakening and re-discovering or finding ourselves. Not sure if this is apparent but the color blue is control and yellow is awakening.

More it is about empathy and how empathy can at times lead to either destruction or salvation, of course in this case the empathy we see is very literal but I think it is something a lot of us can relate to. Empathy is something I deal with a lot in my life.

Also it is at it's core about connections and how all living things on this planet are connected in at least some small way, this is something I feel very strongly about.

And finally it is about those connections we have with people that we care about and how co-dependency really can help us thrive at times.

Of course there is the sci-fi element also which I found very intriguing, and the whole sampler, thief, botanist relationship and their cycle. There is a theme of cycles in there that i find fascinating, the loops of Walden she makes, the straw wrappers he loops together etc. Don't ask me about the sampler and his music and how he does what he does because I have no clue, and I really don't feel like I need to know exactly how he does what he does, I just accept it because while it is fascinating it is not something that needs to be scrutinized or even understood.

There is a lot more to it and I fear this post might ruin the experience for someone who hasn't seen it yet. I am sorry you didn't like it but as I said it is not a film for everyone. Maybe it just spoke very loudly to me but it is now my favorite film. I would love for you to watch it again and try looking at it a bit differently after reading this but completely understand if you don't want to.

Oh btw, I love "The Big Lebowski" and all Coen brothers films actually.
