My first auto, a mini, is still running strong. I've had it since about February of this year--with probably medium to light use. I think I've read that the average, with heavy use, for both manuals and autos is about three months. Unfortunately, I can't remember the source.

Other than old age, batteries can die for various reasons. I know with the autos juice can get into the air hole and kill it. I have another mini that stopped working on me yesterday. My best guess is that I dropped it and knocked something loose inside.

3 autos going strong for 6 months+ If your autos die but not the manual then I am thinking you are getting juice in the hole. Try cleaning in the hole with a dental brush and some alcohol. Worked for mine once. Just be careful because I am not sure if there is anything in there that can damage the batt... but if its not working anyway I would try it
