Oh I'm so confused :-(

Hi everyone

So after wasting too much money on pre filled cartos I took the plunge and bought some juice and empty cartos with a syringe to fill my own (omg how much cheaper!!!!!!)

Now I've been reading up on filling and I'm confused with exactly what to do.

Do you need to let the juice steep first?
Do you need to fill them and wait before vaping?
How much should one reg 901 carto take? (An e cig. com e9 reg carto)

I am excited to try it all but don't wanna muck it up

Don't freak out. It's not that hard.
I'm more familiar with 510 cartos but 901s can't be that much different.
Load you syringe and insert it between the filler and the metal tube.
Working from the bottom up, squirt the juice in slowly while drawing the needle out.
Work around the perimeter of the carto in 3 or 4 spots.
Let it absorb into the carto for 5 minutes or so.
Repeat as necessary until the top of the filler has a slushy look, but not so much that it pools up.
Better to overfill than underfill. So be generous. You can always blow the excess out if you overfill it.
Once it looks thoroughly saturated, let it sit for about 15 minutes to be sure it's all absorbed. If the juice is high VG and thick, give it a little more time.
Try not to get juice in the center hole.
Once it's thoroughly saturated, blow the excess into a paper towel. Blow through the mouth end.
Some people talk about letting it sit overnight. I've never had to do that. 30 minutes at the most should be more than sufficient for all the juice to distribute itself in the filler.

Steeping juice helps sometimes but it's not strictly necessary. Some juice gets better if it steeps from a week to a month or more. Frankly, I rarely bother. There are a lot of different opinions on this, but it really depends on the juice. If you have a juice you don't like, sometimes if you set it aside for a couple weeks it seems to improve. That's the juice that needs steeping.

Amen to what sailor said. The only thing I can add is: once you do your first fill on a new carto, it's just a matter of topping it off. You don't have to put as much juice in the carto after you've done the first fill. Just add say about 10 drops or so, until it looks slushy on top again and you're good to go, because once the filler becomes saturate, it dosen't take nearly as much juice. Happy Vaping!

Also, if your in a hurry , you don't have to use a syringe. You can just fill a condom up about halfway with juice and slowly push the carto back into it.

I used this method, it seems to be fine. Only I use one of those tiny micro screwdrivers to get the cap off. It's working fine with my skycig cartridges (which are supposed to be disposable but I am refilling them, they are fine). The refilled cartridges seem to be lasting about 8 hours so I'm using about 2 per day, and although I haven't really had time enough to count how much liquid I use, a 10ml bottle has lasted me about a week's worth of refills, so about a fiver a week! Also, to add to what Kay said: You don't need the syringe when you top off the liquid. Just drip the drops down the side of the carto into the filler. Tilt it a little and avoid the center hole. Do it as frequently as is convenient, but don't wait until you taste a burning taste. Do it as soon as the vapor starts becoming thin or weaker.

Haha...a condom in the vaping world means those little clearish white things that "come" on either end of your cartomizers. They DO look like condoms, and I'm sure it was a guy that gave them their name.

I've heard them referred to as "boots" if that makes you feel any better. I don't think it'll catch on though. The condom method is great if your cartomizers come with them. I prefer it far more than the syringe method.

Congrats on taking the plunge! What kind of battery are you vaping on? If the 901 is poly fil like the 510's, I second what others have said that you really don't need to use the syringe, you can just drip from the bottle. Really whatever you feel most comfortable with, and that could change over time. From what I've heard, some folks like the condom method because it fills it from the bottom up, so they know the bottom of the polyfil is completely wet. Anyhow, good luck, waiting to hear how it goes for you! And don't ever worry about asking questions or being confused. There is vast amounts of information and by the time you finally think you have a basic understanding, you find out there are a million more kinds of things you never heard and 2 million versions of each one of those. lol

Oh dear ty for providing that link. Every time someone mentioned that method I got this look well.. Ok, look to the left and see my forum pic.. Yuppers, that is a frequent look from me and yes I was thinking I am going to have to buy one of those?!? and do WHAT with IT?!? I mean my bag already looks halfway like a ...... addicts bag with the blunted measuring needles and what have you but add that *rolls eyes* may as well add a supply of those and a portable credit card machine and go all the way here.

Lol Syl, your post just made me really grin But you aren't the only one that ends up with the same look as in your avatar when they first hear about using the condom method. In fact we had lady in her 70's on my UK e-cig forum, post to say she was too embarrassed to go out & buy a pack of condoms, so was greatly relieved when she saw the video

LOL! That's what I thought when I read that for the first time 2 or so months ago!
No, a condom is the plastic caps that are on the empty cartos when u buy them.

Saturation on the first fill is the key to good vaping. And, as Sailorman said, don't wait until the vape starts tasting burnt before topping off. You will learn to notice that slight drop off in flavor and vapor when it needs a few drops. 5 or 6 drops should get it back to the slushy appearance. You can squeeze the bottle and use it as a syringe to draw off any excess.

Daisybelle you meant what to get the[ Stardust clearomizer] a go ,it's alot less fuss and you can clean them and they last alot longer. I have had my first one now for 2 wks and only cleaned it once. There worth checking out in my opinion
