www. nytimes .com/2014/03/24/business/selling-a-poison-by-the-barrel-liquid-nicotine-for-e-cigarettes.html

now, only a few days later, some scumb... ahem ahem! i mean "reporter" from the mexican press "wrote" (cloned & translated is more like it) this bulls... "article":

cadenanoticias .mx/nota.php?cont=notas&nota=9620
its basically the same "stuff" as on the original note. Only translated.

As if we dint have enough problems vaping here in mexico (all vaping is legally BANNED here), now we have more negative BULL to make matters worse by fueling corrupt ahem! i mean "concerned" politicians to justify banning ecigs.

The orignal article popped up on my yahoo feed left this comment:

This article is so grossly one sided and ridiculous, total BS. There is a reason there's a name for people who propagate false, misleading, and fear mongering information such as this, ANTZ or Anti-Nicotine/tobacco Zealots, they're really living up to it in this piece.

I saw that article pop up on Yahoo as well. Here was my first response:

I can only assume by reading this that the author, MATT RICHTEL, got his journalism degree from a Cracker Jack box. The article is so full of misinformation and self contradictions that it cannot possibly be taken seriously by anyone with a brain.

For instance he talks about a teaspoonful of the liquid being fatal to children, then goes on to cite cases of children drinking entire bottles and only having vomiting as a result...in fact the ONLY fatality mentioned in the article was an ADULT that purposefully committed suicide by directly injecting it into his veins.

He claims that the "juice" is made with "colorings and assorted chemicals". While this is technically true, so is calling water a chemical (which it is). The juice is made of Nicotine, Propylene Glycol, Vegetable Glycerine, and standard FOOD flavoring. That's it.

Are these safe? Propylene Glycol has been used in asthma inhalers since the 1950's, is pumped through the air ventilation system of many hospitals, is used in many food and cosmetic products. The FDA considers this a "Generally Regarded As Safe" (GRAS) product. Vegetable Glycerine is one of the least toxic substances on the planet, and is also widely used in food and is also considered GRAS by the FDA. Then of course is the food flavorings which are of course regarded as safe by the FDA or it wouldn't be allowed in food.Leaving only the nicotine, which yes in concentrations can be hazardous, however, in normal doses has very similar effects on the body as caffeine does. They are both neural STIMULANTS....NOT a "neurotoxin" as the author would have you believe. The amount required to be absorbed or ingested is NOT a tiny amount, it is a quite significant amount as evidenced by the case studies he presents in this very article.

The only two possible conclusions to draw from this is that either this guy was handed some "talking points" and paid to write a negative article to further an agenda against the ecig industry OR he is a complete idiot that has no ability to do factual research and write a coherent and logical article. I'll let you decide.

Every mornng, a coworker comes to tell me what she heard on TV about ecigs. She doesn't mean to piss me off, it's just that I'm the only person she knows who uses them and wants to hear my side.

This morning, it was the story that ecigs don't really help people quit. I told her I quit a year ago (technically I did), as do hundreds of people on this forum every month.

Then another co-worker brought up this story.

All I could do was roll my eyes and say "It's all BS!" "And there's a reason WHY these stories are everywhere...big pharma, BT, and the FDA are getting scared".

The news on T.V. just did a quick blurb on "Toxic E-Juice." The reporter said with a straight face "It's already responsible for one death." My mom called me up, as she'd seen it too. I calmly informed her that the "one death" was a suicide, and the guy shot a needle full of e-liquid into his veins.

Best way to neutralize this is to go comment on the article on the article's comments section. Overwhelm this hack with negative comments!

I don't think you can respond to the actual article unless you subscribe to the New York "Enquirer" in order to post. No way do I help support a tabloid quality rag like that.

Oh good! I thought it was completely illegal or something from the way you said that. I figured the mods would have given you a warning by now but I guess they must not be able to pick up swear words in pictures.

nope, its usage is not illegal (only selling it, building it or importing it). Just not in public enclosed placed (anywhere where smoking is forbidden). And even still you can get away with stealh vaping in some bars.
If you vape in a restaurant, as long as some ANTZ ..... doesnt complain to the waiter, you probably wont even be bothered. Worst case scenario, if you were asked to stop and refused, you would get a fine. But no arrest, jail or anything like that.

So if you can't sell it how do you guys get your hardware and juice?? Underground market?

Exactly.
There simply is no other way here.

There are some online stores that sell juice & gear, and some "kiosks" on shopping malls, selling at incredibly high prices. But those local stores get raided sometimes, or they make "arrangements" to not get busted.

Yes. My questions as well. We might be needing some pointers here in the U.S. real soon.
Answered in revious post :)

As for you guys in the US following "the same path", take it from someone who lives on the other side (of paternalist goberments)...
I see news of new anti vaping "bans" & restrictions in your country. My advice is:
Do whatever you have to, to put a stop to those corrupt ANTZ RIGHT NOW.
Before its too late.

Holy crap. Of all the things to worry about "down there" it's strange somebody in your government felt the need to be concerned with mean ol' e-cigs. LOL! I guess it's true... "stupid" is everywhere.
