I have ego-T battery and clear atomizer. I just started making my own e juice...yuck!!! I am mixing 5 parts VG, 4 parts PG, 1 part Nicotine, then 20 drops of flavor. It tastes like I just changed the oil in the car and forgot to wash my hands. Plus there is an awful film in my mouth that I can only get rid of by mouth wash and brushing my teeth. What am I doing wrong? I tried the on line calculators, the juice was worse! I'm about ready to start smoking cigarettes again. Help please.

Basic questions:
What does your plain PG taste like?
What does your plain VG taste like?
What does your juice taste like without flavoring?

The grade you are looking for is USP. It is either on the label or it is not and it is simply "USP".
Common grades in order of purity from most to least so the grade above may also be used for all those below it:
USP
Food
Agricultural
Machine/Industrial

Here is the DIY Forum link: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/diy-e-liquid/

That is a very HIGH concentration. You really should read up a little bit before you mix/waste anymore.

Not many experienced mixers mix a new recipe at 50ml. Most do 3ml at first to taste it and see if it is worth mixing in larger quantities.

Did you wash your clearomizer before adding juice? Many clearomizers taste "oily" straight out of the box. (Machine oil)

Do you have more than one clearomizer to taste different concoctions?

Do you have any pre-made liquid to tide you over until your mix is perfected?

It is very much a trial and error thing when you DIY. Most of the time the first mixes you attempt are not going to be that satisfying until you have more of an idea what you are doing and how much flavoring to use. Each flavor concentrate has its own unique percentage in order for it to taste "right." Some flavor concentrates just plain suck.

DIY is not hard, but it takes a bit of patience. You can't mix in a hurry and then decide to smoke a cigarette if it doesn't work out! Slow down a little bit and read up on the subject. You will be a "pro" before you know it!

I'm adding plan Cinnamon flavoring.

The cinnamon is a known tank cracker. If your tanks are plastic, they are probably now shot and the flavor you're getting is the residue from the dissolved polycarb material the tanks are made of.

I don't think you're putting in enough flavoring to cloud a polycarb tank, but it is something to watch out for if you use polycarb tanks.

I say that good VG reminds me of a good olive oil, so it sounds like your's is OK.
PG does have a flavorless warmth, kinda like the warmth of a spice without the flavor, so that seems OK.

All that remains is to make sure the nic flavor is acceptable and you can go to work on the flavoring part.

While you are mixing up some flavorless juice, click that "3" to the right of Blog Entries: below my avatar. Go to the blog on Flavoring Levels and read it. It should be helpful...
