OK. I'm wanting to try SS wire...

...but I would like some help, what grade should I get and where on Gods Green Planet are y'all getting yours from because googling it is not going so well. I've never used SS but I would like to see what it's all about and if I like it better than Kanthal. I also have Titanium on its way to me so I can see how I like that as well. I don't really know what gauge to get either but maybe I can buy a few different gauges and go that route. I just have no idea. Thank you for any advice you can give

I like 316l stainless steel wire 26g. If you are looking to Clapton it go with 28g.

Here in Oz we dont get much of a choice of SS grades usually (and the postage for getting some from overseas can be a bit much), so its whats the online stores or b&m's have, so its 316L And usually a TCR (if your mod allows adjustment) of 0.00092

Its also about 2 gauge resistance difference from say nichrome, so whatever gauge you normally used, get the next below for SS.

How are y'all cleaning your SS coils? Or are you just rebuilding when it's time to change cotton? With Kanthal I change out cotton weekly and dry burn, rinse add the new cotton. I've only been using SS for about a week but it's time to clean and change cotton now. Thanks for your help.

Interdental Brushes.

Remove the wick.

1. Use the brush to clean the inside and sides of the coil.
2. Pulse coil with low wattage

Repeat Step 1 & 2 till you see coil glow evenly.

Clean the coil with cotton (water or vodka soaked) to remove the cleaned gunk.
(In case you do not have Interdental brushes,
you can do this couple of times to remove the gunk and clean the coils)

Pulse....

Rewick, juice-it and vape-on.

I have been using coils on different atties for more than a month.

I only change coil if resistance or flavor is off.
Rebuild when I am changing flavors.

That said... I got my 24 and 26g 316L from Unkamen.
They're a craft supply so the selection is limited, but it's in the US and pricing is very good.

I dry burn mine to clean it up. I use mostly 24ga these days but have 26ga too.

I would opt for products actually used as surgical wire (e.g. suture wire) for 316L. SouthPointe offers 316L manufactured and drawn (Babcock) in Germany. Delco Wire Winding offers 316L manufactured and drawn (Babcock) in the USA. I use wire from both vendors which are delivered wound on wooden spools.
