So A friend wanted to be like me but cheap and got herself a cheap "ego type" kit.
She charged it last night, no problem.
Today she charged it (with the charger included in the kit mind you) and the damned thing melted. I opened it up and took some pix of the burnt circuits.
Just a friendly PSA to keep an eye on your stuff, don't charge unattended and don't skimp on the quality!

Yes it was a USB plug. I only have a wall charger for my 18360's I've been charging ego types on USb for months now and have never heard that it was bad.
Logically I would assume the opposite. I would think a direct power source right to the battery would be more likely to fry. I'll have to read up on this

Usually it's the charger causing damage to the ports from what I remember. But from this and that guy that burnt himself charging it from his laptop has me a little worried. I'll still charge from it if I have too, just won't leave it charging unattended. Actually, I rarely leave these ego batteries unattended while charging.

This is why I NEVER charge batteries when I am Asleep or when I'm Not at Home.

And why I like to put Everything inside a Glass Lasagna Tray when I charge.

I use a wall timer set for 3 hours before I get up in the morning (coffee is set to be ready at the same time). ;)

The significant part, imo, is this: ...got herself a cheap "ego type" kit. Get a Joye charger and batt - good charge protection on the eGo-c and eGo-c upgrade batts. No charging bags necessary, but I still unplug when sleeping or going out....
    I totally agree kent
