Okay, so I've got my SC French Pipe... what can I do with it?

So I mentioned on another thread that I did not care for tobacco flavors and @Sylvie suggested that I might like SC French Pipe.

I got my latest flavor order today with just a sample sized bottle of this included. I cracked the bottle right away to try a sniff - I admit it does smell quite nice to me. I've done the obvious - mixed up a 10ml stand alone test batch at 2% to get a feel for it.

So... tobacco flavors should steep for a month? I'm not sure if that applies to this flavor (any guidance would be appreciated). Also, what else can I do with it? I have no experience with tobacco's. I'm thinking a mix with some caramel and vanilla might be nice.

Fire some ideas at me, if you have any and if you please. :)

Oh, and a funny story... yesterday when I popped by to see my mom she pulled a package of cigarettes out of her purse that I had given her in the spring of this year. My dad went into a nursing home almost 2 years ago and once in a while he complains that he wants to go out for a smoke. He has dementia and is in "lock down" so he can't wander (because he has been known to when the mood strikes). I gave her this pack of cigarettes so that she would have some on hand should he demand a cig (as opposed to putting him in the car and going to look for a convenience store). Anyway, she pulls out the pack and asks me if I want it back (um yeah, she knows I quit lol). I told her to throw it in the garbage but since then.... ugh, I want a smoke. A real smoke. So this French Pipe is going to have to do. It would be nice if it was sooner than later but at this point, if it needs to steep for 3 weeks or a month, I can wait for later.

Hi Ceecee, sorry to hear you are jonesing! :( Stay resolved and don't give in. Since you are DIYing, you might want to temporarily bump up your nic in any of your liquids to get you over your rough patch. I believe in you!

I'm sorry but I have no experience with SC's French Pipe so I can't offer any first-hand suggestions. In general tobaccos mix nicely with creams, custards, vanillas, caramels, chocolates, nuts, and liquors like whiskey and rum. I know that traditionally tobaccos benefit from extended time but there is no harm in trying right away. You never know... you might find you like it right away, or with only a short rest. I personally taste any new flavors periodicly (from right after mixing; until it is fully mature) precisely so I will know how long I need to age it. Even the one I fully expect to require some time.

I don't know if you have noticed it before but ECF has a good general DIY tobacco thread here: Favorite tobacco flavoring discussion - Tobacco flavoring discussion only

It is quite active, tobacco-novice friendly, and they are happy to answer just about any tobacco related question.

Thank you Joel. I'm jonesing but I'll get through okay. I've been vaping like crazy and I'm pretty sure a smoke would taste like crud. And anyway, my mom threw the package away on Tuesday afternoon - I'd have to sneak into her garage and rifle through the garbage to get them back  ... pretty sure that would just net me a stale pack of smokes (and I would never even entertain the idea of buying a fresh pack).

Those are all good suggestions. I think just a touch of caramel and custard would be nice... I'll mix up another test bottle with those flavors added and probably some EM too as I am seeing that in a lot of French Pipe recipes (I'm assuming it is being used as a smoother more than a sweetener). I'll also glide on over to the Tobacco Flavoring thread and see what's happening there. :)

And when I get some time later today I'll dry burn and rewick one of my Lemo's and drip a bit and see what I think. It can't hurt to try!

Maybe worth having a look at this recipe. You'd need to tweak it a bit, because it uses Inawera French Pipe, so might not directly translate with the given percentages, but the flavor profile is verrrry interesting, with almond, anise, custard, and fig (and I recall you rather like anise?), so maybe nice for a jumping off point for experimenting.

Oooh! Yes I do like anise and that's a flavor I haven't even gotten to yet. Your link is not working but I think I know where it's going ;) what's the name of the recipe and I can look it up. I have almond, anise and custard... but fig? Might have to look around for that. I love figs, especially Black Mission Figs.

Oh wait... I can see in the non-functioning link it is Ohm's French Connection. It uses FA Fresh Fig. My DIY supplier only has FW Fig.

edit: I stand corrected, they do have FA Fresh Fig - I feel another flavor order coming on.... despite the fact I've sworn off till after Christmas lol

SC French Pipe is a great vape, takes no longer than a week to fully mature but is also good right after mixed. It mixes well with SC fruit flavors, my favorite is with SC Apricot.

Hey thanks and that's good news!

Okay WOW! I just cleaned my tank and rewicked with rayon - my first time since I got the rayon last week. It tastes nice - just like tobacco!
Slightly sweet and a bit caramel-y? Except it's strong - as I say I mixed it up at 2% (with 5mg nic) and I'm vaping it with a Lemo 2 tank with a .55 ohm build at 30W.

I think I'll fiddle with the wattage a bit and I'm gonna have to go outside to vape this - someone in the house is going to throw a hissy-fit if they think I'm smoking inside lol.

Early results:

i actually prefer it best as is but, have mix it before with plain cheesecake and it made it more creamy tasting but, loss some of the 'pipey' taste to it, still good though. same with vanilla custard, not too bad. tried it with some koolada/menthol premix flavoring as well to give it a coolness light menthol effect like a cig but, i think it killed the tobacco-y feel that it leaves in your mouth when the french pipe is vaped as is. Also mixed it with some french vanilla coffee, actually was not bad at all that way.
I have not tried fruits in it yet, actually did not even think of it till i just read AZ's comment, thinking a little apple or juicy peach would go well with this french pipe though, hmm think i will try that tomorrow now that i think of it!! anyhows glad you like it :)

wow. okay, I guess there's something I need to learn about. Not really sure how, though.
Yep. Afraid that is a "banned" site to link or name on ECF. Screen shots that do not include the site name or web address seem to be tolerated (such as recipe or flavor usage shots). Also good to note: the administration takes a dim view if they feel a user is intentionally trying to circumvent the auto filters (by intentional miss-spellings/alternate spellings and may result in suspension and/or ban from ECF (forum rules here). Please don't ask why; they don't seem to like that discussed either.

Oh, strange; are links to .................... not allowed? Apparently the system automatically mungs the url? Anyway, yes! I was pointing out "Ohm's French Connection" recipe.

If a site is filtered on ECF, there's a very good reason for it. We'd appreciate that there are no attempts at getting around the filters as well. ;)

We rarely, if ever, discuss why actions were taken with the general membership. However, in this case, if you dig deep enough on ECF, you'll find the reason why the site isn't permitted to be linked here.

lol... I was eye-balling that for my last order. I feel another order coming on (I'm thinking Boxing Day sales already).... I'll grab a sample bottle. ;)

Oh yeah!!! That stuff will cure you cig craving flat!! I'll give you a hint at what it smells/tastes like!

Find a soda bottle that has water and a bunch of cig butts floating in it and give it a BIG whiff!

It's that wet ashtray smell/taste! Just a drop or three in a tobacco mix makes it so close it's scary!!!
