Hey guys,

I have read a few threads discussing this same topic (to an extent) but they are a good few years old, so I wanted to ask again...

I had left my Aspire Atlantis half filled sitting around (un-used) for maybe 5-6 weeks - and I was just wondering if it would be safe to vape the juice that's still in there. Or would it be best to clean the tank out and replace the coil?

From my past forum reading, I understand that PG acts as a preservative and will inhibit any mould growth - therefore leaving the coil perfectly clean and safe to use. Is that still the general consensus?

Thanks a lot for any help.

I wouldn't say *perfectly* clean, but at a month you're probably fine unless you're noticing something. It's definitely possible for bacteria to get growing in a tank in different parts so you should periodically give it a good clean (rinse, soak in some dawn & warm water, scrub off with q-tip). Probably give that drip tip a good clean and finish it off, the dangerous part of the Atlantis atm probably isn't your eliquid. :)

Thanks for the reply Batman, I ended up washing all the juice out and gave the clearo and the coil a good rinse out with hot water, and had a good vape.

I woke up this morning with a pretty nasty sore throat, so not sure if it's just a coincidence or if the sore throat was caused by the Atlantis being contaminated in some way.

Safe to say I'll be sticking to fresh coils in the future.

Hmm, I've left clearos for over six months with some juice in them and did not have any issues. Really, nothing should grow in there because both PG and VG are antimicrobial. I've vaped 2 year old juice that had been in the bottle at room temperature and out of sunlight and also not had any issues, but that might not work with all juices. I believe juice is generally accepted to have a shelf life of a year unless it has organic flavoring in it.

I have the feeling the sore throat is just a coincidence, but I guess you never know :)

What Ryedan said generally, and more specifically when it comes to the Atlantis and coils, month-old eliquid is probably the least of your worries. :) Since you seem to care about your health, you might want to go through this thread:

I really do think it's probably coincidental if it seemed to vape just fine, at least in terms of the eliquid.

Am I reading this wrong or did you rinse the Atlantis coil with hot water? If you did I would definitely advise against rinsing and dry burning BVC coils. You can also try rewrapping/rewicking the Atlantis coil with KGD, or any cotton really, if you still want to use the Atlantis and are uncomfortable with the ceramic wick. There are a bunch of tutorials on youtube that will take you step by step through the process.

Hi MrsMojoRisin,

I rinsed with hot water but didn't dry burn. Just let it air dry for a few hours and then filled it up.

I'll look into rebuilding some coils, but not sure if I can be bothered. I guess I could be what's called a 'lazy vaper' haha. I don't think I'll miss the Atlantis too much, it wasn't my primary set up. I use a K1 day to day, but I understand their coils are also dangerous. I was just researching potential alternatives to the K1. Looking for something similar in size and simplicity. Any suggestions?

Wow you slipped through the cracks. I'm not MrsMojo (I'm prettier), but if you're concerned about the safety of materials, unfortunately the K1 BVC coils do use the same fiberblass/ceramic fibers. For something in the similar size as a K1, you'll probably want to look at the Subtank Nano which will have better flavor and cheaper coils. They're organic cotton, and if you do decide to rebuild, are much easier.

The one thing to mention about it is that the drip tip can get a bit warm if you're using the 0.5ohm coils. Newer versions off the shelves appear to have a peak insulator for the airway to solve it, so you might want to make sure yours will with the seller.

I'm sorry, I missed this as well. I have just been informed of a new stock sub-ohm tank, the Eleaf Melo, which uses that same type of coils as the Atlantis but the wicking material is all Organic Cotton. It's not on the market yet but should be out very soon. Word is the heads will fit the Atlantis, and the Melo should be about 20 bucks for the tank and 12.99/5 pack of coils. I have a Lemo and like it so I'm probably going to grab the Melo when it's out, and if the heads do fit the Atlantis it's like a two-fer.

I also don't doubt DB is prettier than me, with the exception of Michael Keaton, "Batmen" are notoriously pretty. :D

Haha, thanks guys. I'm washing my hands of Aspire. I've got a Joyetech Ego One & and Subtank Nano on the way. From what I've read they both have organic cotton coils.

Just for reference, and a bit off topic I guess... Is it safe to used non sub ohm clearos with sub ohm capable batteries? So could I jam pretty much any clearo that will fit onto this Ego One battery?

Thanks for your help.

6992 kilometers from home...
We have a huge tank of PG at work we fill with 55 gallon drums. I think it holds 400 gallons. It's plastic, and one day one of the guys who works pressure test- where the PG is used, saw something growing on a side of the tank. It looked alive. It was scooped out and put in a water drain pit and bleach poured over it. It broke up a bit, then coagulated after a few minutes... I left the area...
