Hey Ecig forums,

10 years ago i heard about ecig's and i've never stuck with it. My very first was a dse 901 pen style. hated that thing. spent about $50 bucks on that back in the day and used it for about a week, what a hastle especially when working.

went a few more years on analogs. then got a ego, went back to analogs, got a vv spinner went back to analogs, got a kangertech subox mini. that did the job, i just decided i wasn't ready to give up the analogs.

so here i am 10 years of smoking analogs longer than i should have, i brought my subox mini out from storage and was determined to get off the analogs for good. I'm now 3 weeks without minus a few one night of drinking. and I think it's safe to say I finally have no urge to go back.

back when the 901's were out I researched for hours on end on this site. trying to determine what I thought was best for me. no matter how much i read i just made poor decisions. so I want to ask you because times have definitly changed and the vaping world you almost need a degree in to understand it if your a born again newbie.

I have a local store about 30 miles away from me. 30ml bottles 13.99, 60 mil, 21.99, 120 I don't remember. the coils for the subox are 5.99 a piece. Im looking for any online site that can do these a bit cheaper. I also need a replacement battery as mine doesn't hold a charge very well anymore and I don't even know if im using the right charger that came with it. takes about 4 hours to charge fully, unless i use my phone charger then it takes less.

flavors I enjoy - most fruit flavors. vanilla, some cinnamon, have a flavor called fallen angel. it's like vanilla, custard, cinnamon - it tastes like a rice crispy treat had sex with a cinnamon roll. back in my early days i tried some chocolate, nut, and tobacco flavors. did not enjoy. right now im enjoying a lemon pucker flavor and fruit loops. Bettlejuice from alohma in omaha is good. There was a site long ago that i ordered from that had a menthol flavor. but this one was actually cold to inhale in. all the other menthol flavors i have tried don't have that cold feeling..anyway just wondering if you can point me to some good stores and flavors. Also i dislike any flavor that has a strong perfume like scent or aroma, can give me a headache.

and maybe in the future i might decide to upgrade to something new. the local store i go to i never seem to have time to look at all the new equipment and what it does. i've read a little temp control, mods, rebuildable coils. i don't think im ready to dive into that world yet. want to wait one more month at least to see if i stick with this subox

I found a kit for a decent price. This company is in Fla and has free shipping....

Kanger Subox Mini-C Vape Starter Kit

Also how old is your battery? The one you take out to charge? That could be the problem also.

I only went to a store for hardware once. My first setup was 40% cheaper online. I got online when I got that first setup to learn more about it all. I was rather amazed at all the sites.

Same thing for juice, much cheaper online. Actually, that is where the profit is for any vape shop. Why, because it is Sooo much cheaper to DIY.

At the beginning, I accepted to pay the same for vaping as I did for smoking if I thought it would work. The same amount of money went on for 6-8 months but, then dropped. I am now doing less than $10-$15 a month; only $2-$3 for juice.

My gear is better quality, I do my own coils and, well, good wicking doesn't need TC. I keep the hardware simple. My juice supplies quickly went to larger glass bottles that don't hold old flavors. I got a smallish used fridge for most things.

Great hobby, healthy, too.

Welcome back and congrats on finally kicking the cigs. I remember those 901s. They were truely awful!
The thing about the fancy new mods with TC and all sorts of features is you don’t actually have to USE any of those features. Most drop in coils won’t work with TC anyway so it’s really kind of a useless feature unless you go wick and wire.

The problem is it’s no more expensive or perhaps even cheaper for a manufacturer to put in all those features rather than leave them out, so basically every decent mod out there has them. They can be simply ignored though.

30mi is kind of a drive. You might do well with mail order. There’s tons of that around.

Go Big Red.
Flavor Shack - Premium E-Liquid at Affordable Prices
$6 per 100 mill and free shipping if you order 6. $36 shipped for 600 mills, check it out.
Replace your old battery, it's not safe anymore I like liion wholesale, shipping is fast and prices are good, I am happy with the Samsung 30qs. The LG brown wrapped ones are really good too.
Get coils from fasttech, you can probably get 12 for 5.99. Just be ready to wait 8 weeks.
Or, learn to wrap coils, it's easy with an RTA. Decent single coil RTA is the doggy style clone, wrap 6 times around an 1/8 drill bit with some 26 or 28 guage kanthal and you are done. Go to YouTube and watch rip trippers coil builds.

I am restarting too; I am much more confident that I have the tools and knowledge this time around. My primary vape is 3%, and I found my perfect flavors for me. Juice is very personal and finding the right one of the premium brands can be daunting. Key is just trying stuff, identify the one that works for you then search for the particular juice online.

The key that is making the difference this time around is my nic hitter with nic salt; this technology was not around back when I tried before. The nic salt is much stronger than what can be delivered through traditional e-juice, and it gets me to proper nicotine levels where I am just left to battle the mental aspect rather than body and mind. I use a Sourin Drop paired with Naked50 nic salt.

As far as mods go, the sky is the limit. My primary mod is a very high-end TC device with SS exotic coils on a Goon 1.5 RDA. Just my personal preference, it's not for everyone; but I figured the build will pay for it's self in two months and I would rather buy it once and get it right rather than sending all my dollars to China. My second device is dedicated to driving, it is a simple Reuleaux gen3 wattage device with an Alpine RTA. I will be swapping this one out for a high end custom squonker once the vape budget catches up, but, again, just my preference and how I personally roll.

Here is what I would do if I were you. Buy a new battery to replace the one that you are using in your sub-box so it can hold a charge all day, get a juice you like enough to vape all day. Use that for a month or two and keep track of how much you spend on vaping vs smoking. Set aside the difference (put it in a savings account or a jar in the kitchen. Just somewhere so the extra cash gets saved. Once you get about $200 in the account/jar, you can now get a top end mod (like a DNA device) and topper of your choice, for essentially "free" since that is money you would have wasted smoking. That also gives you time to make sure you will stick with it so you don't waste extra money.

For a mod, I personally LOVE the HCigar VT 75D. Look at the reviews on that, especially the one from DJLsb. If you like the Kanger tank you have, you may consider sticking with that brand of tank. Just look for newer models. I don't use drop in coil head tanks so I can't really recommend one.

Forums aren't for everyone, but maybe stick around awhile and let these folks support you. Perhaps that was what was missing those other times that you tried. I'm a solo type of guy, even here, but the best changes in my life was when I gave myself over to others.

@Big Red Husker, welcome back to ECF and congratulations on your three weeks. It's the ones you don't smoke that count, not the oopsies. Once you get settled in with the vaping, please do consider DIY, you'll save a ton and it's not rocket science. Good suggestions on juice but other than that I've got nothing for you, I vape all old school stuff.

Welcome to ECF. Tons of new stuff out there, for sure. I came back to vaping from a similar situation and was amazed at what I missed. Congratulations on 3 weeks, that's fantastic. I'd second the suggestion of saving for new gear and buying something nice, unless you believe you will never use it. There are tons of more budget options out there. I won't go into specifics, since I'm not entirely clear what you are looking for in a new setup.

Heather's heavenly vapes has some good NETs that aren't too expensive, if you are interested in Naturally Extracted Tobacco. I DIY so I'm not much help when it comes to juice companies, but there are several good ones out there. I'd suggest maybe trying a sample pack or two, so that you start dialing in your vape to something you like with less expense.

Glad you are back vaping, and welcome back!

Welcome back. Kanger coils are easy to come by. Order one pack from a US site and more from fasttech, if you order 5 packs of coils you get an additional discount from FT. I also order batteries from Liion Wholesale and am very pleased with product, prices, and service. Lot of decent budget juice vendors. MadTown Vapor, Sauce LA, E-Liquid Depot are just a few.

IMO, that's a good idea, as others have said, too. As @Letitia just mentioned while I was writing this post...if you decide to stick with it, you can get the authentic Kanger coils for it much cheaper on FastTech (<$8/5-pack). Since it takes several weeks to get them, buy a box in the US to use while you're waiting for the ones from FastTech. You'll save a bunch in the longrun!

Thanks everyone for responding. when I get home tonight, ill get a chance to read through your comments a bit more.

one thing I didn't see addressed. anyone have a cold menthol suggestion? the one I tried was like breathing ice, which was almost to much, but the other menthol flavors i have tried they tasted like menthol but none had that cool feeling. I wish I could remember the name of it.

My uncle enjoys Mt. Baker menthol ice the most, it does have that koolada kick without overwhelming the menthol.

    Do you mean Extreme Ice?

The stuff will blow you away.

    Extreme Ice E Juice

And yes, @Letitia ... the link is safe. :D
He calls it menthol ice, I've tasted it and it doesn't seem strong to me. Take it with a grain of salt, I dislike menthol and koolada. I'll ask him later if it is the Extreme, he has been vaping the same 18mg juice for years. Still using his first Nauti & 30w istick too.

When I first switched to vaping I was in the same boat. What I eventually discovered is if I bought a straight menthol juice, I could mix it with other flavors to get just the right amount of menthol for me. My first ADV (all day vape) was a Strawberry juice mixed with Menthol E Juice (<- Link) from Mt Baker Vapor. That has the "cooling factor" and good menthol taste. Straight it can be a bit overwhelming but mixed with other flavors, it's amazing.

My current ADV is what I call "Winter's Frost". It is my own DIY blend using a Wintergreen flavor (not cool by itself), and a cooling agent called FlavourArt Polar Blast (<- Link) from NicotineRiver. This stuff seems to have no real "taste" of it's own but the cooling factor is quite potent. WARNING: A little goes a long way. I add just 10ml of it to a 236ml bottle of juice! You can use this to make any juice "cool". You could even take one of the "uncool" menthols you found and add just however much cool factor that you want with the Polar Blast, if you want a straight menthol.

I am sure that between those two, you can make any juice you want as mentholy and cool as you want.

The best menthol I've come across is Volt's Ice Menthol.
