Yeah, don't get all caught up on today's terminology. Nothing has changed that much, except performance, taste and filling method has gotten a lot better. Fact is, a cartomizer on a carto tank is merely the same as a coil head (also referred to as "drop-in coil on ECF). Some screw in, some pop in, some drop in, but regardless it's all the same thing. Today's coils are merely just shorter than "cartomizers" and with organic cotton filler instead of that other cringy stuff they used to use.

Heck, even some coil heads are jut about as long as "cartomizers". Some innokin line of tanks, like Endura and Prism, take coil heads that resemble old school "cartomizers".

Here's a prism tank and it's coil head.

Makes sense when you explain it like that.
How long do the coils usually last? I get about ten days out of a carto.

If you can afford it, get one of each of those Innokin kits. Also, since you have a charger, get a couple new batteries too (assuming you have 18650 type) That way you have one mod for the external batteries and one mod with built in battery (and two tanks) They both take Z coils (very popular, available, affordable and many choices) I like the 0.8 coils for MTL and the 0.3 ohm for restricted DL but you sound like you would like the 1.6 ohm coils (but try a few 0.8 coils too) Just curious... what is the VG/PG ratio of the juice you use?
About 50/50.

Depends on a lot of factors like juice sweetness, thickness, darkness and how much you vape and at what wattage. Wattage for you is very low so that won't be an issue with coil longevity. But the other factors come into play so it makes it hard to say how long a specific coil head will last for you. But you'll probably get at least 10 days I bet. You just have to try it.

As Fran already told you earlier, you have to make sure your coil head is saturated with juice before you start vaping on it, otherwise you will decrease the longevity of the coil head.

Drop some juice onto the visible wick as much as you can. Then install the coil. Then take some draws on the tank without firing the mods to get some juice to suck into the coil head. You might already do the second thing with your cartos already. Again, it really is the same thing, it just looks different.

Good advice, thanks. Nothing worse than a burnt cart (I've gone through an entire box many times because although I learned long ago to soak them for ages, I think they put the dual coils too close together sometimes. Aggravating and expensive). I will wet the coils when I change them, didn't think of that.

Welcome back @WVvet :) your dog is as cute as can be! Good luck with the new set ups I think you will love it. The 18650Batterystore . com has a good price on the 18650 Molicel batteries and ship them in battery cases too. Be sure to check out their deal of the day if you are in need of a decent battery charger too :)

I prefer rebuildables for that reason alone. Though, I get not everyone has the patience for that.

As you know it's simply a case of routinely re wicking. Nearly everytime i've had to rebuild a coil is because after dry burning (making the coil soft with the heat) i'd reposition it using the correct sized rod and wind up snapping off a leg from not letting it cool.

So now the routine is: remove base, clean base, clean chimney, dry base, dry chimney, dry burn coil, reposition coil, let coil cool, re-wick, prime (includes bleeding), replace base, refill and i'm done. (10 minutes from start to finish)

And i have to add that these days the actual re-wicking part of the above process, after doing it for such a long time now, is just so simple. The last most basic mistake i learned not to make was to ensure that the new wick is nice and "snug" and not as loose as some people might suggest it should be. That was the problem i was hung up on. People used to suggest that the wick shouldn't be tight, when really it actually should be. "Snug" is probobly the best way i can describe it though.

So i think some people shy away from rebuildables because they think it's labour intensive.

It isn't !.

Plus i get a lot of satisfaction from a home made coil and wick. So there's that.

The two obvious benefits of rebuildables is the cost savings over drop-in coils and the fact that the supplies used for rebuilding are not subject to the PACT act mail bans and will be able to be purchased in the future. Even if you are not interested in learning to rebuild now, it probably wouldn't hurt to stock up on a couple of RTAs while they still can be shipped. You've already been suggested some good ones. My favorite is the Hellvape Dead Rabbit. It was easy to build as my first build.

Good point and I agree. Though, these days I try not to assume everyone has the proper dexterity or eye sight.

Unfortunately I fall into that category now although I have successfully done a one handed rebuild on a subtank mini rba, it's not for the faint of heart lol! For the longest time I used nothing but rebuildables and think every vaper should have a few easy to RBAs in their stash along with a healthy supply of their favorite coils.

All this talk about carto tanks inspired me to whip something out. It took me a few minutes to remember how to prep it, but success is mine! :D:cool::vapor:

We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.

Did you use a slap yo mama tool? :D when looking through some trippy tips I have carefully stored away I ran across mine along with a Phiniac tank tool and couldn't remember what the heck they were for at first.

No problem, people see Vet and always assume.
I think I understand now. My isticks are about dead now anyway, so will probably just get a whole new kit.
Are you looking for a box mod with an internal battery, or one that uses external batteries? By the sounds of it, internal would likely be better for you?

Edit: Never mind, looks like you've already been asked this. The Z80 really is the cat's meow if you're looking for an easy MTL. 1.6 ohm coils are quite cheap in relation to most other coils currently - and I don't see them stopping manufacturing on them anytime soon.

    Absolutely! :headbang:

I still keep one and a Kayfil tool on my desk stand. Neither gets a LOT of use, but both still see some action.

The most constant thing in my vapeworld is.my 10 year old beaker (50 ml). It's never failed me.

While searching for something for another member earlier today....I ran across a US vendor who still has that mod in stock! Surprised me.
