All I remember was that in 1970, when they announced the breakup, I was 9 yrs old... I was absolutely DEVASTATED, and reacted as a fairly typical 9 yr old... screaming, crying, "they can't do that!!!!", etc.... It broke my little heart, it did. :( I *still* hate Yoko Ono!!! (and whoever told that woman she could sing, oughtta be shot... oh wait, he was... :( )

That devastated me way more than when they broke up. But you're right about Yoko. Of course when you're famous you're a target for all kinds of things. Personally I'd never want to be famous unless I had a very good disguise. I'd be the famous one performing with a bag over my head.

I totally get that -- I figure if I ever had a book published, I'd use initials only (like Ms. Rowling!), and the only picture of me on the jacket would be a silhouette! How horrible would it be to run down to Walmart to grab something you need to make dinner, no makeup, hair pulled back a la skint rat, grungy sweats... and have a bunch of people in your face with their smartphones, wanting your autograph!! OMG, that sounds like the very definition of hell!

I was more devastated by the breakup, because I was a child discovering the world, discovering music, totally in love with their music and lyrics; they just defined almost my entire childhood, and I *still* know all the words to Fool on the Hill. To learn that something as great as the Beatles was finite... it just crushed me. But I *very* clearly remember being in my bathroom putting on makeup to go to work, when I was 19, and hearing the news of his murder... I can still see that eye-shadow sponge halfway to my face, reflected in the mirror, and feel that horror and disbelief... that can't be true, it just can't... and to keep hearing it all thru the day at work. I remember wishing it had been HER that was shot, instead of him... so unfair.

John was really the breakup lynchpin ... for many reasons ... although I'm sure Yoko had a part to play, her role is way over rated .. it was actually Paul that made the first public announcement that he was leaving the Band .. George and Ringo had actually also quit a few times in 1968 or so .. Brian Epstein's death had much more to do with the breakup than Yoko ...

John co-wrote "Fame" .. the David Bowie hit, which in a nutshell encapsulates John's feelings at the time ..

And, although I openly became quite emotional when John was murdered, he did do some of his best work post-Fab Four .. one of my personal favorites and very autobiographical ..

Well... this is totally off-topic, but this may be the only forum here where that's allowed -- I GOT A NEW KEYBOARD TODAY!!!

My old one had 2/3 of the letters completely typed off (long nails), and I never liked it, it was one of those "mini" jobbers that in no way resembles the real QWERTY layout, I never could type worth a crap on that thing. So today I went to MicroCenter and bought a new one! Standard keyboard! None of that "mini" crap! $3.99!!! Geez, I remember when just a plain old keyboard was like $50!

Anyway I may have a few typos since I have to get RE-used to a real keyboard's layout... but ahhhhhh... at least now I can see the letters!! When you're trying to correct typos, being able to see what the letters ARE is a real plus!!!

Don't know how you managed on one of the minis. That would make me crazy.

I just got 3 chipped off keys replaced and it really does make a difference! I can't watch my fingers when I type, but ask me to pick out where one of the letters is and I really gotta think about it. My nails aren't long, but I must still be hard on the keys because this is the 2nd time I've had to have some replaced and Mike hasn't had to. Still think it has something to do with the way the keys are made - couldn't be me! Anyway, this time I got a skin for the keys to protect them. They're pink! I have a pink keyboard! Didn't see that coming, but I like it.

Heh... *I* don't know how I typed on that thing for 2 yrs, or how my husband stood my b*tching about it, either. :D Last night I was ranting about it and he's like, hey, we got this state tax refund, we'll go get you another! It's still not a "full-sized standard Dell keyboard", but I guess if it was, it wouldn't have been $3.99, either.

I've typed the letters off about 6 or 8 keyboards now; my nails are hard as diamonds, and they grow long so fast, it seems inevitable. I don't bother fixing the keys anymore, I just toss 'em and go get another -- they're not $50 anymore!

Not sure how much I really like this one, but maybe it's because I had two yrs to get used to that itty bitty one; also this one is much quieter, and I dunno, I kinda like the typing racket -- my mom used to bring her office IBM selectric home to finish work, so I got used to rackety typing pretty young. Now the loudest sound is my stupid nails banging the keys! :D You're right, my fingers know where the keys are, but when you're hunting, to try and fix a typo, and the letters aren't there... how frustrating! I'd keep hitting "U" over and over, trying to find the "I", which had probably been gone for over a year.

I was just about to observe that *I* would be a lot happier if the lazy USPS were on the job today. :D

Maybe we should send some of our USPS and UPS people down your way. Our USPS people are moving so fast we even get our neighbors mail. And you really don't want to get in the way of some of the UPS drivers! The worst one was the one we met at the floor tile place. He was blocking the pick up area so we had to maneuver to the side to wait. When he came out he couldn't quite swing tight enough and had to back up 5' to make the turn and he let loose with a string of curses at Mike, including that he was calling the cops that the guys in the warehouse came running! Sheesh! I know these guys are on a tight schedule and I'm the first one to let them out of a side street in front of me, but the 5 seconds it took this guy to back up and go was just over the top. Maybe he had some vapemail in the truck and was in a hurry to deliver it...

More snow in the forecast - yuck! I like this guys attitude.

Hey, am I the only one who feels sorry for the groundhog? The stupid people in top hats have decided he has the answers and all he wants to do is sleep till Spring! They wake him up out of a sound sleep, imagine how disappointed he is to find out it's snowing! And he doesn't even bite anybody even when he gets dropped!

Yepper, just wake my azz up when it's snowing outside and then drop me out dere! Someone would have to shoot me due to an immediate rabies alert scare!!! Hopefully, I could deposit their carcasses into dose top hats 'fore I become a worthless pelt.

"Take care of yourself!" Noper, you first take care of my vape mail! And don't park in a no parking/fire lane zone. Deliveries are delivered in da rear... oops, I mean back o' da business... dang it, I really mean... never mind...
