That is just awesome! I can't use a wheelchair to go do my shopping because of my hands, elbows & shoulders. Scooters are painful in the same areas plus my back after a bit. Powerchair would be ideal, but Medicare won't do those unless you need it in your home. I'm fine in my home, where it's just short distances, or I can sit down if I need to. It's outside my front door that I have problems!

I have the same issues, and it's so hard to find one that works at the stores. I have a really bad right shoulder so even driving those scooters I guess (with the handlebars) are hard, just not as hard as walking. My son used to take me to the store, but eventually it got easier for him to just go get stuff than to take me.

Oh....and thanks for your post on the front porch! After I posted that, I realized that I probably shouldn't have. But oh well. I'm very much looking forward to joining the club. It's hard, cuz my dil's daughter is only 5, and although we get along great, I don't get to see her much, and she doesn't really see me as a grandma, and I don't think her mom encourages that at all. So although I wish it were different, this is really my first experience with it.

Several pages back on the thread, someone asked if I would do a New Years Song Countdown, and I declined .. I'm going to spend the evening at a certain place I am known to sometimes visit .. however, I would like to hook everyone up with some free listening links ..

If you are interested in listening to any of these, let the thread Collective know which one you are streaming .. that way, perhaps other folks here will stream the same channel and you will share a musical journey, concurrently and Collectively ..

When any of these links load, it's usually pretty easy to see what you need to click in order to stream .. and they are all free links and don't suck up much bandwidth, so you can still do other things on line while listening .. please post if any of these don't work for you ..

One of my favorites is KSHE St Louis ;) .. an institution in this area .. primarily Classic Rock
KSHE 95

Free Oldies Music Jukebox is a nice site in that it allows you to select the year, group of years, genre, etc and it will play just material from your selection .. and the fidelity is pretty good ..
Free Oldies Music Jukebox ? Listen to 200+ Channels of Internet Radio You?ll Love

All Hit Radio is based in the UK I believe, does a pretty good job, but sometimes can drift into the eclectic ..
All Hit Radio | Internet Radio

KSAN the Bone in San Francisco is a great Rock station with some very good DJ's ..Steven Seaweed known as the "Weedman" is one of my favorites ..
107.7 The Bone

I watched a show today on Eric Clapton's 2014 tour. Ahhh the memories! Concerts are on my bucket list!

If it were me, and I was ill I would appreciate knowing that someone cares enough to check on me. If I had lost someone I would appreciate that someone cares about them.

I have spoken.

I agree with Russell. Maybe pushing it, but we know she was going to have a procedure, so our concern is legit. I'd want someone to know to contact my friends, & that includes you all. Now the question is, would they do it? I don't think a wellness check is out of order if we have the means, especially since all other efforts have failed. That's the part that really has me concerned. No response to emails or anything.

Unfortunately, I'm in your son's situation. Fortunately, I can get my bride out & about for a few outings. But am so concerned about her getting fatigued (aka fall fuel; or lack of)!

Willie,

Just my humble .02 FRN, I agree in not 'disturbing' Jewels. But, OTOH, since her son knows of your personal efforts to help him through his Mom, I'd go that route if possible. What son wouldn't want to know that so many think so much of and for his Mom?

My still heart aches from all of our 'gnashing of teeth' when we tried to determine what happened to Elbert and Tx (not counting trackin' down Semi). Both had been porch active and then notta. Yes, we may have lost other porchers; but, if so, we had no clue that I know of.

You're holding da only known possible 'trump card'. I'll trust your judgement, regardless!

ETA: Just hopefully thought that she may be at a specialty treatment facility and no one is home. "There's just gotta be a pony under all that horse crap!" <old, old punchline>

Willie,
I too am of two minds on this. On one side is the desire to check on a friend that I know has been having difficulties. On the other, this is an online community and we must be careful not to appear as stalkers (that's a little harsh but I am having trouble figuring out how to put it). It is her decision as to wether she shares with us here. Just knowing her here online I think she would be OK but again it really isn't most of our business. The few folks here that have interacted with her outside of the forum have more right to call and inquire but wether or not that information gets shared here is entirely up to her. My two cents.

Sent with no malice and not a whole lot of forethought from my new Galaxy Tab 4. Thanks Santa!

I'll probably drop in later for da festivities, BUT I'm beyond concerned 'bout Jewels!!!

Anyone?

Later...

I have had no response from the card I sent, which was I think about a week and a half ago .. I continue to remain optimistic and believe there is no cause to think the worst .. she has drifted away from the thread for extended periods in the past .. I personally feel it would be intrusive to attempt to obtain a phone number and call, but that's just me ..

Maybe it's a year end thing - but Janet and I were just saying today too - that I've gotten no response from my email to her and Willie hasn't heard anything from the card he sent. Read the comments on "to contact or not" - and I'm not sure what to say ... so I'll likely post on that later.

I have known about this since Dec 5th, but have been forbidden from saying anything online. But........now the announcement has been made on facebook soooooooooooo

I'm gonna be a Grammy!!!!!!!!!

I've been sittin on my fingers and bitin my tongue for almost a month now........cuz they weren't going to say anything online until after her first dr appt which is January 16th, but my SIL just saw the facebook posting, said they couldn't wait any longer......so now I get to tell y'all!!! So happy!! She has a 5 year old and my son loves her just like she's his own, but he's so very happy to be able to get in on this from the beginning so to speak. lol We're all hoping for a boy! Her aunt had a dream not long ago that she was pregnant with twin boys, and that's certainly a possibility! What a great way to ring in the new year!!

Whoohoo! Saw you post on the front porch but can't say Whoohoo too often for good news like this. Congrats!

Any contact I have had with Debbie has been upbeat and positive .. the last time I heard from her was her last post here on ECF .. I seriously doubt she left any worst case scenario request with anyone and, although I don't want to offend anyone here, who has or would .. ?? And, I continue to believe there is no worst case scenario ..

My earlier point was the fact that I am very much uncomfortable going any further .. and I'm asking the Collective for guidance .. which I may or may not use ..

Late to the party, but if you're uncomfortable, don't. Whatever course. Listen to what your heart is telling you to do. Whatever it is.

And if we get news via you, or later from some other source, or never... heck, sounds like RL!

Oh Deb that's FANTASTIC!!! Congratulations!! How exciting. We just went through this with our first grandchild. He's 21 days old today and we couldn't be happier!! I'm SO happy for you and your son and his wife!!

Good grief .. I don't want to end the year on a low note .. it goes against everything I believe in .. regretting posting anything at all now on Debbie ..

Please don't feel bad hun. I realize you just signed off. I hope I didn't make you feel bad, I was just basically saying that along with you I was kind of torn. Wanting to know how she is, but like you, feeling we should respect her privacy.

Just caught up with the posts on Jewels. Yeah, I'm torn too. People handle serious illness in different ways. Although we're all worried I think maybe we should just give it some more time. An email and a card has been sent so at some point she or her family will know that we're worried about her. I think we just have to respect her privacy for a little longer. She was going to another facility so maybe she decided to stay for treatment and isn't even home. In the realm of what she's going through we're not at the top of the list for contact. Just keep churning out the good vibes and prayers and hope that at some point she's going to pop back in here and give us some very good news.

But while we're on the subject. Could I ask/suggest that we all let someone know how to contact us if something ever did happen to us? We could get beamed up by aliens or whatever, but it sure would be nice if we let someone know how to contact our thread. We've gotten to be friends over time and we worry. Mike and I would do that for each other and I think I'm going to let our son and daughter know that we'd like them to contact you if anything ever happened to us. We know that we're genuinely concerned and not trying to pry, but they won't know that unless we explain it to them.
:2c:
Please, any posts of mine beyond this point, understand that I am partying, so I will probably be snockered soon.

Hey Russell, party on! I hope Willie is having a good tim too! What happens on the thread stays on the thread!!! Ha Ha!

OK people, are you ready for some more wonderful news? Our daughter met a special guy about 1-1/2 years ago and they've hit it off. It's been 7 years since she lost her husband so we've all been waiting for her to be able to move on. We think Brian is very special and it's obvious that he and his family loves Kate. This Christmas his parents gave them a trip to Switzerland with other family members. They're staying in the most beautiful hotel I've ever seen with skiing down the mountain right to the front door. Today she sent us this photo.

We are thrilled!!! Geeze, a grand baby and an engagement!! That's 2 - could the lottery be next?????

So, everyone want to share how they plan on bringing in the New Year?

I'm working overtime at another base. It's 9:40pm and absolutely nothing is going on. Me and another guy are holding down the base. I'm reading through the ECF forum. Wow! Happy New Year. At least I have a job.

Fireworks going off right and left. It's 11:30pm so I guess there'll be no sleeping for a while anyway. Big boom a little while ago, scared the hell out of the hound. She is now under covers and right up against me. Every time a boom goes off she jerks. Poor baby. Rubbing her belly and telling her that daddy will protect her.

Sent with no malice and not a whole lot of forethought from my new Galaxy Tab 4. Thanks Santa!
