I have known about this since Dec 5th, but have been forbidden from saying anything online. But........now the announcement has been made on facebook soooooooooooo

I'm gonna be a Grammy!!!!!!!!!

What a great way to ring in the new year!!
How exciting .. I know how you feel
I've even moved into the next phase .. great grammie.

My earlier point was the fact that I am very much uncomfortable going any further ....
UW, as much as we are all concerned about her, I would say ... for you to "follow your gut"
I have always found that when I went against my "gut feeling" I regretted it.
I really wish we knew what was going on, but we may not be on the top of the priority list right now, and will just have to wait
Following my gut is just my way of muddeling through life ... it doesn't have to be yours .. my :2c:

OK people, are you ready for some more wonderful news? Our daughter met a special guy about 1-1/2 years ago and they've hit it off. It's been 7 years since she lost her husband so we've all been waiting for her to be able to move on. We think Brian is very special and it's obvious that he and his family loves Kate. This Christmas his parents gave them a trip to Switzerland with other family members. They're staying in the most beautiful hotel I've ever seen with skiing down the mountain right to the front door. Today she sent us this photo.

We are thrilled!!! Geeze, a grand baby and an engagement!! That's 2 - could the lottery be next?????
You guys are having a great ending to this year, and a great start on the ones to follow.
Nothing will every be the same again, ... :toast:

I'm getting ready to head out in the next hour or so .. and I've thought about my post earlier regarding Debbie (Jewels) .. sooooo ..

Some time back, I had an opportunity available thru a contact of mine on the East Coast for a Bluegrass guitar player / singer .. I knew Debbie's son was in a Band at the time and had played live at some events in their local area and fit the bill .. so, we conversed about her son auditioning for a tour gig that would have been fairly lucrative for him financially .. turned out that with 3 kids at home and what not, it was not an opportunity he would choose to explore .. because of this, I may have some additional info that I could use to explore contacting him and asking what's up ..

I honestly feel a little like it's invading on someones privacy, and I don't like that feeling at all .. plenty have left the threads never to return in the past and they are doing just fine, I'm sure .. however, I'm asking you guys .. what would you have me do .. ??

Willie;
If I were in your shoes, I'd wait until I felt comfortable making the call. That can happen, and if it doesn't, so be it. I'd keep in mind that part of the reason for the discomfort is that there might be bad news to process. Personally, I know that Jewels possessed one of the most upbeat and positive attitudes I've ever witnessed.

The fact is that contacting the family would be for us more than for her. She knows we care.

I don't know if that last post worked? Anyway I hope everybody enjoyed they're New Years eve. Mine was noisy but, I feel great this morning. I'm actually enjoying this not drinking stuff. Up until 2012 I would still be in bed and completely useless for a couple of days. Yep, I think it was time for me to quit. Quit smoking the same day (April 9, 2012) and figured if I didn't quit drinking I would never quit smoking. They do go together kinda like milk and cookies. Again Happy New Year and I am looking forward to 2015 with my my fellow porchers.

Sent with no malice and not a whole lot of forethought from my new Galaxy Tab 4. Thanks Santa!

Hello all! I did my intro on the front porch but had a question about the forum I didn't know if itr was all right to ask there so I figured I would give it a shot here. I see all the banners everyone has for their siggy, and I found one to use that counts the days. But, for the life of me I can't find out where to put it in my profile????

Any direction would be greatly appreciated!!!

Yeh it did. I was mostly small boys too. USS Dupont (DD-941), USS Dahlgren (DDG-43) and then a whole bunch of different ones cause my career went in a different direction and I sorta specialized in Space and Electronic Warfare. Lots and lots of TAD to various ships and staffs. I was the Staff Watch Officer for the PHIBRON during the "black hawk down" incident in Somalia. That's pretty much when I decided it was time to retire.

Figured i would drag the conversation over here cause I don't know all the forum rules and don't want to start nothing in my first week of posting.....:p

Probably, the most fun I had while active was blowing up mines in the Persian Gulf in 90-91 and clearing mines off the beaches in Kuwait. I went to work for general Dynamics after I retired and ended up going to Iraq in 2005-6 and then again 2009-11 to close down the shop.

My wife laughs at me ever since I told her I no interest in taking a cruise somewhere because it seemed like I have been riding ships all my life, lol.
