Washington asparagus is out already in the veggie stands. Love it and only79cents a pound. We are having an early spring.
Oh man! You lucky DOG!!! We're having an early Spring too but can only DREAM of 79 cent a pound Asparagus, anytime of year!!! (about $4 to $5 a can or a pound, either way!)

Don't think Van could make it in a day!
I had to share this. It highlights the issue of logistics from here to there (and how BIG Alaska is, no offense to our friends in Texas ;)).
Alaska vs The Lower 48.jpg
Add a 3 to 4 hr. flight from Anchorage to Seattle and you get the picture.
Do they still grow monster veggies in the Matanuska Valley. Seen those cabbages in a wheelbarrow. Something that is pleasant about 20 hours of daylight. And where I was it doesn't really get dark just dusk for a little while and up pops the sun again.
You know it buddy! Last year's State Fair Champion cabbage was 143 POUNDS! They're using fork lifts to move the around now! The Zucchinis & Cucumbers are coming in around 20 plus pounds as are the Turnips & Carrots. As always, Summer Solstice is an amazing time. Just "dusky" for a few hours, like you said. The trade off is going to and coming from work in the dark for three months. Daylight Savings Time doesn't make much sense "up here" but we've still got it, don't know why??? Alaska also used to be split up into FIVE time zones (for obvious reasons) but that went away several years ago. We are now using the Alaska Standard Time Zone throughout the state. Another thing that doesn't make much sense (for the same obvious reasons).
