Beautiful and touching story. Thank you. When my daughter was young - her friends in school told her that there was no such thing as Santa Clause, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, and all the other little things that add a touch of excitement to a child's life. They told her that only dumb kids believe in those things.
Well, she asked me about it and admitted she had caught me putting extra presents under the tree the year before late at night and kind of knew and one time when I was putting a silver dollar under her pillow I had woken her up, but she pretended to still be asleep because she still wanted the dollar...
But, what she wanted to know was how long was she supposed to believe.
I told her you believe as long as you want to believe, because once you stop believing then you will lose that little bit of magic (excitement) that comes from believing. The thrill that comes from seeing Santa or rushing out to see what Santa had brought. The clutching thrill you had when you found that old tooth replaced with something shiny under your pillow. The jumping joy and excitement from finding the most eggs during the hunt... All a touch of magic.
This is getting a little long so I am going to cut this short with this...
I am 59 years old and I still get a small thrill from seeing Santa in the mall or watching the kids in line. I still volunteer for coloring the eggs for the hunt and I am a very good hider.
To this day, I still want to share in the thrills that I had when I was a small child with whoever I can... I still believe and I want others to still believe.
Sometimes and I mean just sometimes I wonder why I bother, then I see the small smiles, the excitement the kids have and the warmth coming from the people around the kids and I know why...
So, I have just one thing to say to all. If you are feeling down today - find a child (call one on the phone) and say Merry Christmas to them or ask them what Santa brought them. Their energy might and I do say - just might restore a little bit in you today and you may also remember and retain the joys you used to once enjoy...
Merry Christmas...
The seals just look like coated paper, some kind of plastic like stuff. Mine are sitting upright in a box in the freezer. I think I filled 8½ bottles d brought one full the half bottle home with me. Still haven't used all of the half bottle. When I shake it it the liquid beads up on the inside of the lid.cool and you made it at 2.25%? How are the seals on those bottles. That is what is important to me to go in the freezer. I can see how they would be really easy to use just pour it in. Oh yeah overnight will give you a really good idea. That's all I wait.
I saw those, but don't know if they would fit into the top of say a 30 ml bottle. This looks like it would be real handy.

I publicly proclaim that any and all photos of my waning time on earth be shared if they demonstrate and highlight the love and devotion of my loved ones.
Do I want a pic posted illustrating my involuntary leakage... no! But, Matt's sharing is ever so much about love, tenderness and respect!!!
Was Gen. Eisenhower wrong for allowing the Jewish holocaust victims photos be published? Ummm...?
Are the ads showing a smoking former cheerleader wither and die before our eyes on TV PSAs cruel? No, she wanted to warn and awaken the rest of us. Ummm...
I don't want to die, but it will happen. My dignity will be a non-issue if I'm in Doree's mom's situation. If I fall over without their ordeal, I and my family will have another blessing to be thankful for, regardless of circumstances!
BTW, I do have a DNR with only a couple of stringent caveats. Patty and my daughters know well my wishes...
Doree and Matt,
You may not have any idea how much your photo impacted my day. But, so help me, it was beautiful and touching!![]()

I don't know why this reply came out like this with my pic but any way they don't leak right and don't taste right. They sure would be easy to fill. Do you put 100mg nic in them. I'm thinking of putting my nic in them. Flavors I can easily put in the polywhatever cone and I like that. The seals just look like coated paper, some kind of plastic like stuff. Legs, that is so beautiful! I know it's a pita for you, tho. Did the plumber come plow the driveway? As long as the driveway is clear just batten down the hatches & consume mass quanities of hot chocolate!
Today in Suncrest WA and still snowing. White Christmas.![]()

That's great, Legs! I'm glad you thought to call him!Yep and he stopped by last night to see if we wanted him to do it again but we are fine he said just call and he'll be here.
Wow, Janet! I wish I could stand up long enough to do that! I would love to try it! But I would crater 15 minutes into it & it would be ruined. I am jealous!I think I've got an hour while Miles sleeps and everybody is off doing whatever. So, here's the recipe for the Dobos Torte.
Batter
7 eggs
1/2 C sugar
1 C flour
pinch of salt
1t baking powder
Beat 1 eggs & 6 yolks with sugar till sugar melts (5-10 minutes)
Blend in flour
Beat egg 6 egg whites & salt till stiff.
Fold in yolk mixture.
Grease and flour the bottom side of cake pans. Spread batter (always scoop from the bottom) on the floured pans 1/8" about thick.
Bake at 350 degrees till edges start to turn golden - about 3 minutes
Carefully remove the cake layers to cake rack to cool.
Clean pans and re-grease and flour and repeat until batter is used up. (a generous coating of Bakers Joy works, but still has to be wiped clean before spreading on a new layer of batter)
Spread layers out and cover with wax paper if you're going to do the filling on day 2.
Filling
3 C 10X sugar
1 C softened butter
1 t almond extract
2 t strong coffee
1 t cocoa
1-2 T whipping cream
Whip until light and fluffy
Candy topping
Put 1-1/2 C sugar in a small heavy pot and put the pot on medium heat until the sugar melts. It'll take awhile. Don't stir until the most of the center section has melted. As soon as it's all melted and golden brown pour over the top layer.
Assemble the Cake
Spread a thin layer (1/8-1/4") of filling between each layer of cake until you have 9-12 layers. Save the best looking layer for the top. Trim the outside of the cake with a serrated knife if necessary. Add 1 t of cocoa to leftover filling and coat the sides of the cake.
Put the best looking top layer on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper and spread the Candy topping on the layer to cover. Work quickly because this will harden very fast (and it's very hot so be careful).
Heat a knife to almost glowing and score the candy layer into 16 sections (where you'll be cutting the cake layers later.
Put the candy top layer on the cake and touch up the filling/icing where necessary.
We usually make the layers one day and assemble the next day. It helps to have 2 people making the cake layers.

I'm really glad I don't view it like that. That's a pretty sorry thing to say to Matt.In my husbands last days he was confined to a nursing home. A young man, whom we had helped years before, when my husband was the director of a juvenile drug rehab.....came a long distance to visit him. When the nurse came in to attend to my husbands needs.....I could see in his face the shame and humiliation of being seen in that state.
While I think it's wonderful that Matt's wife is there, caring for her mother......I, personally would never post a pic for all the world to see, that essentially shreds and strips away her last remnants of pride and dignity. Does anyone want to be remembered that way ? Not I.
