On the outside below the bowl ... what's with all those 'sculpted squiggles'?

Hubs says it probably took less porcelain to build them that way but that there are now several manufacturers who make them with straight sides. Here's one of them

Might be hard to do since the last book hasn't even been written.... but I did read that they are looking into pre-quells for a new series. We'll see!

Used to do covers this way, many years back :)

How to Create a Paper Bag Book Cover
We did covers like that for all of our school books. Those paper grocery bags were perfect for it. Never ending supply of clean covers. I don't want to transfer juice from my hands to the books.

Yea, but ... try doing that with one of the modern plastic store bags. :D

There's a move afoot out here, anyway, to get away from plastic bags. We tend to use reusable ones, anyway, have for years before it became "fashionable."

So some stores have started going back to paper, which recycles.

And I'm really confused about all the companies being confused about what to do without plastic straws. Uh, when I was raised they were all paper.... can't they make paper straws anymore?

Wal-Mart collects the plastic bags, and they are recycled.

Food Lion, a food chain local to me, also has a bin outside each store for the recycling of plastic bags and any type of plastic film. It's a good thing.

Movie review: Indecent Proposal; Woody Harrelson, Demi Moore, Robert Redford, 1993. It's a 25 year old movie but I'd never seen it before. Stunningly good and has it all; great movie. Definitely the most tragically beautiful (or beautifully tragic) movie I've ever seen that contains neither violence nor death.

I think most stores these days have bins to collect used plastic bags. The problem is we assume recycled things are actually recycled and that's not always the case. Evidently it's expensive to make useful things out of used plastic and therefore it's expensive to buy those things. Wish we could afford a recycled plastic fence, they're beautiful and don't require the maintenance of the wood and metal fences.

Yes! Of course these days the paper ones are going to be way more expensive. And young people think it's a brand new idea.

Yes on all counts, many stores do have bins for them, and sometimes they actually are recycled, rather than just taken from there to the dump.

China recently stopped accepting many types of recyclables, no longer wanting to be the world's dump. So, now what? No place to send them for recycling... and that of course ignores the multitude that are just put in the trash to start with.

Heck, brown paper bags aren't just recyclable, they're compostable :) Wife has always been a gardener, so we've always had a compost pile/bin. (Also long before it became fashionable, gardeners knew how to get good dirt ;) )
