I think that was possibly Dennis' way of saying that he wishes he had enough in a 401K to buy a new car. I don't think it really made him any more depressed than normal. He's quite capable of speaking for himself, but I'm giving my opinion because I think it will be a good number of hours before he checks in again.

actually, i've been just south of being a millionaire for several years. (thanks to my stellar flat-line investment savvy)

most of that is in IRAs that will go to my kids.

i try to survive on my monthly SocSec. i grew up dirt poor and want to leave my kids something more than i had, so i try not to dive into my IRAs.

as i understand it, i'll have to take IRA withdrawals in the unlikely event i reach 70. if that happens, i'll reinvest it for my kids and continue to manage on my SocSec.

and my 2013 Altima is doing just fine :)

MIL is doing well after her surgery.

That's nice to hear. :)

I managed to get a summer flu and spent a solid week miserable. I still don't have much energy but I am on the mend. Slow but sure wins the race. :)

But this certainly isn't ... blah. :nah:

What we really need is more jobs not a higher minimum wage. I'd never pay my own son $15 to flip burgers at age 16. There go the "entry level" jobs. Something will have to give, automation or cheaper products... Oh well, at least the old folks still having to work will benefit.

Unskilled workers should not make 15.00 an hour. It eliminates any incintive to learn a skill, get a usable education, aquire knowlegein a marketable field, & make yourself attractive for employment in something better. Yes, I understand it doesn't work out for some due to unforseeable circumstances. My earning potential crashed & burned at age 42 & would never recover. I did have skills & knowledge that enabled me to continue to work but I was very limited to what I could do. I did not expect to be paid a certain amount just because I needed to make a living, had Dr bills, or at the same rate as someone with more skills, physical ability, or more responsibility. I did expect to be paid according to the skills I had, that a company needed, & my job performance. Period. I made a lot more money in a high physical risk job in which I managed many people in multiple locations & was on call 24/7. I made much less in a high stress job that physically required less but that I was still able to do.

The problem I have with a forced minimum wage iz that the employer with 10 employees can no longer afford 10 employees. So some have to go OR prices must increase. Just simple economics.
Now if prices increase, we pay more for everything. Within a month or so. So who really benefits? Well, the gov does. None of them will tell you that if you make more money, they get to collect more taxes so they'll have a lot more loose cash around to give themselves raises. After all, the wages just went up. Right?

Yea, I have never figured that one out. Unemployment (paid for), SS (paid for), Medicare (paid for), etc. etc. etc... It's the loopholes and the fraud that is killing the systems - plug those and it is all fixed...

Edit: Sorry, tiny rant...
What gets me is that SS would be in the black consistently if congress hadn't "borrowed" from it to finance whatever the boondogle of the year was for so many years. How convenient that they forgot that they put IOUs in everytime too.

I agree. If minimum wage goes up that much, everything will cost more to pay the wages of the unskilled workers. Small businesses that are barely squeaking by now will not be able to pay their workers, meaning more layoffs, poor service, etc. and probably bankruptcy. Not a good outlook.

Wishing everyone a Happy 4th!! Tasha is petrified of the fireworks and booming, Geordi just says "What?". It has been noisier here this year (so far) than the last 5 years! I just keep Tasha on my lap, human thundershirt.

My dearest lulu,

May I add ya to my 'luv ya dearly' list? I only ask in dat I'm totally committed to my bride and da Constitution, besides being an ardent vaping apostle!!

As to 'entitlements', our frackin' government can't even live up to the 'benefits' for our disabled vets. That to me is the greatest US of A failure within my lifetime! And no, I'm not a DV nor have ever seeked any VA assistance, although I'm a 20 year vet.

And to provide some ol' liberal fodder against me, any more there are only three classes of US citizens: wolves, sheep and watch dogs!

OK, guess I need to wind down and limit my soul felt expressions. It just hurts so much to watch how we all are being manipulated!

Peace and human dignity through power and victory with honor and, no, we will not ever globally sing 'Kumbya'...

Just to assist those I just wizzed ophph, here's how to use IGNORE...
I like how we were "promised" free lifetime medical if we stayed for 20 or 30 years. If that's true why do the copayments for TriCare keep going up and why do I have to convert to Medicare and purchase a supplement at 65.

And because increases in cost of doing business goes up, that expense is passed along to consumers. Unskilled burger flippers making 15.00 an hour are also consumers & will pay more in taxes. So much for that raise.

I use Google Drive Documents but that Google Keep sounds like it might be easier and more convenient. To the maximum extent possible, I avoid writing stuff down on paper.

I think it's a case of "entitlement" having been turned into an ugly word, when it didn't have to be.

I was going to say this is the kid next door horsing around, but that goat is no kid.

Nobody is "entitled" to anything. SS and Medicare are not "entitlements." We contribute to them over our working careers.

YES!! SS is a trustfund, not a $$ stash for the Gov't.

This is true. How much your check is depends on how much you paid into it over your working years. It's NOT just a flat rate for everyone.
