Matt, glad the family is safe and hope you can sell the motor home quickly.

@2legsshrt
Hum, what else? Oh, Geordi won another point today! 2 singles down, 13 points, to include 2 majors (a win worth 3 or more points - points determined by the number of dogs in the classes) to go!

Yippee skippy! Go Geordi!

Wow what a time yesterday. Went to my daughters wedding at a Masonic Campground. What a blast, we should've taken our motorhome but didn't realize this place was so cool. I had more Grandkids there then I could count on my digits 11. Got hugged by more people then I can remember. My exwife was there even weirder then when I was married to her. I didn't even recognizer her. Everybody is so old. Drank my first beer in a year and a half. Had to this guy made a special brew for the wedding and it was pretty darned good. 4 of the Grandkids are over today but they all went to the beach with Ginny. I don't do well on Rocky beaches. Been a blast here so far.
Fantastic! So it was worth all the trouble after all! I'm glad you're having such a wonderful time. Try to get pictures!
Took both 'evaluations'. Ergo, why I clicked no 'likes' re da exercises...
I just took the other one. I see what you mean.
We're missing Miles man so we got some FaceTime in today. After the session Michael, our son, texted me that Miles would point to the iPhone, say Pop-pop, and sign 'more', then repeat. Touched my heart it did to hear that.

Precious! I love the internet!
OK, serious Iffy here...

Need some help from our Porch Hive Mind!

Long story short (as possible)...

Several weeks ago, I contacted and met a gent after recovering his tackle box with his fishing license his grandson left at the 'office'. He enjoyed the 'ramp no mercy table' and started to visit fairly regularly.

This afternoon I witnessed a hale & hearty gent (early 60s) basically flip an 'off' switch. One moment he was an engaging conversationalist, the next a 'crumpled' man.

I noted his transformation and kept watch. He wondered off to the seawall and sat down like a deflated balloon. I approached and asked if he was alright. He looked at me like I had slapped his face. After a few comforting words, he admitted he was having a recurrent bout of depression. And he couldn't believe that I was concerned.

He said no one had ever picked up on his 'challenge' and was ever so surprised and appreciative of my concern. We sat for many minutes letting us both absorb what had just happened. I told him that I wasn't probing, but willing to talk with him more if he wished. He said I would like to speak with me again regarding his affliction in the future.

Without going into our conversation, I'll add this much:

He is taking meds to no avail (type unknown at this time)
Ongoing issue for much of his life
Docs & meds are BS (his words)

My question for any of our porchers, has anyone here dealt with a person in this condition? Any assistance would be deeply appreciated!

With all the crap going on within our nation and around the globe, this is my 'backyard' and hopefully I can do something about it!!!

Grateful thanx in advance...
I agree that we don't have enough info. There are so many possibilities. But, it does seem that such a sudden change hints at a trigger of some kind. Maybe something that was said or done in the conversation. Maybe something physical (blood sugar, hormonal fluctuations, etc.).

Just being there for him and paying attention to when it happens again is about all you can do for now.

For whoever was looking for it The people that do Jitterbug now have a simplified smartphone with large print etc. Just saw an add on TV for it.
I had mentioned it since Kenna was looking for a non smart phone with a big screen. It's not a big screen so much, but does have big numbers.

Well, never had a Carl's 'round here <sigh, again...>
I loved Hardees when I was a kid! Don't have any of that around here, but we do have Whataburger! Need a loan to go there, but they're good.
However....... I can now never UNSEE that commercial!!! :grr:

oh how wonderful!!! So glad y'all got there in time for that!!

So, obviously something's going on. My feeling overwhelmed has gotten way out of hand!
I see now that maybe you aren't, but was gonna tell you not to put too much stock in these things.......they're mostly just for fun!

I got a couple local grown maters last time I went to the grocery. The vine tomatoes that I've been getting are totally decent, but these here ones are so meaty and tasty.
oh my.......I had my first GOOD maters for many many years when I was housesitting! I could have just about eaten the garden empty of em!! I've tried growing my own, and it never works. I have a purple thumb.

oh how sweet!!!! he wants more pop pop! Great that they're teaching him to sign also! I've always wanted to learn ASL

Wahooooooo!!!!!!!! That's fantastic!!! I know that makes you feel great! He'll have his CH before ya know it!

I got home from church today, and a friend surprised me here, I had just seen her at church. We spent the afternoon together. Marriage on the rocks.
awwwwwwww sorry her marriage is on the rocks. Hope you kinda had a good visit other than that.

To me and I'm no expert but talking to you one minute and going off into a deep depression sounds like Bipolar to me. I would think that he would need professional help from a doctor who would recognize it and get him on the right meds. I know that Bipolar people don't like to take their meds and get really bad when they go off. When they are on them they usually are fairly stable but they usually don't like the way they make them feel and don't feel they need them or need any help. These kind of people can be very unstable when off their meds. Just my opinion. Hard to say what's causing it some people just have it, it is a mental disorder that I think is treatable but not curable. But who knows. Probably a lot of people out there that know a lot more about this then I do. I know my son is like this and can be very happy and normal one minute and turn into the complete opposite the next when he is off his meds.

@Iffy the serious;
It really isn't enough information for responsible advice to be given. For example, the guy is saying the meds do no good, but it's possible that he'd be worse off without them.

It's also possible that he's over-medicated or on the wrong medication, or even that he's been misdiagnosed and shouldn't be on medication at all.

That said, I think you're giving him the best possible medication: your time, concern and attention. It can become a drain to spend increasing amounts of time with a depressed person. I know this from both sides of the fence.

What Dave said, Iffy....if he's out n about his depression is not real real deep and perhaps he just wants company, whether he wants to actually chitchat or not. You're a great listener and you give off lotsa compassion so he's in good hands whether your both silent or talking.

@Iffy as dave said, not enough info of course, but I know you said what you could. The only thing I can say other than to just be there for him, is that if he's a vet and getting care at the VA it would be good if he could see another doc there, or.......get care at another place if possible. Unfortunately, the VA docs are so overloaded with depression, they just tend to go into an automatic, let's put em on this......and be done with it. He really does need someone who is around him that can talk with the docs with him. Try a diff antidepressant...... give the doc info that person that he may not be giving them. etc. My nephew wouldn't tell the doc a lot of what was going on. He is schitzophrenic. Things got much better when he got a wonderful lady from the VA who helps him. Talks to him, he trusts her. She would tell him the same things his mom and I had told him, but he just clicked with her, and it was like the first time he was hearing these things. He began to be more forthcoming with the doc etc and now after his last really really scary episode, he's taking his med on schedule and serious about them. they also got them adjusted better, so he's doing a lot better. Will be praying for him. I'll have to ask my sil the name of the program. I have MEPS stuck in my head so can't think of it.

Diagnosis surrounding any physical or mental issue by non-professionals is in line with acting as your own attorney (unless, of course, you actually are an attorney) .. however, let me present a handy PDF, let's call it "Mental Illness for Dummies", in line with the rest of the "for Dummies" series ..

https://www.troohealthcare.com/images/pdf/mental_health.pdf

There is no way to make sense of the World any longer. We are becoming bereft of reason ...

Please sign the petition asking the Senate, House and President to reject the FDA deeming . This is in support of a Senator who is demanding answers from the FDA

U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives, President of the United States: Reject the FDA's Deeming of Vapor Products as Tobacco Products

Yiddle or someone ... please tell me how to sign it. I visited that page a few times and dummy me can't figure out what/where to click to sign. Plenty of places to share on FB, Twitter, start my own petition, but I lost for how to sign that one.

Me too. I wonder if it won't let me sign because I have already signed. It's hard to keep track of all the petitions I've signed and all the surveys I've taken.

You're a protagonist. You're supposed to be understanding. You're supposed to sympathize w/ me. :sneaky:

You may want to dig a little deeper on that .. there is a definite Dark Side that can and does pop out .. ;)

The only issue I had was the right hand box not being fully visible nor scrollable .. shrink page to 75%, voila .. of course, I am using WIN10 .. IE11 .. ;)

Nope ... doesn't matter whether my page is full screen or reduced ... no button to click to sign.

Maybe DancingH has the answer ... maybe I already signed it and 'they know'.

I don't know what else to do....:( It worked to let Torey sign it, and I have signed the first one as well as this one. I've sent an email telling them that we're unable to sign and sharing to Facebook is worthless if no one can find a way to sign it.
