Eagle wood be da Marinez!
This is all getting so confusing....   I'M LOVING IT!!!
And yes, Gary, the Marines symbol is an eagle perched on a globe but not what I was referring to either...
I know, but my original question wasn't "what is a sphere?" I was asking "why is the truk a sphere?" :p
And that would be my guess, because it represents a never ending, all encompassing something, he, he, he. But I can tell that's "probably" NOT correct by your response. It's all good. I'm gonna think on it some more and take another bite at the apple. HEY! Does it have anything to do with apples???

This just in: garyoa1 replied: So it won't get hung up and I believe this to be the correct answer. It makz senz. (Oh, ther's a scary thought, garyoa1 & me on the same wave length!!! ;) :D  ) Dang! Beat me to that one too! :(

I did many flag presentation ceremonies for the families of veterans whom are no longer with us. I also did many flag ceremonies at Reveille and Taps, and actually enjoyed each and every time that I was allowed to handle our colors with honor and respect.

Just a little further flag trivia:

Have you ever wondered why the Flag of the United States of America is folded 13 times when it is lowered or when it is folded and handed to the next of kin at the burial of a veteran?

Here is the meaning of each of those folds and what it means:

The first fold of our Flag is a symbol of life.

The second fold is a symbol of our belief in eternal life.

The third fold is made in honor and remembrance of the veterans departing our ranks who gave a portion of their lives for the defense of our country to attain peace throughout the world.

The fourth fold represents our weaker nature, for as American citizens trusting, it is to Him we turn in times of peace as well as in time of war for His divine guidance.

The fifth fold is a tribute to our country, for in the words of Stephen Decatur, "Our Country, in dealing with other countries may she always be right; but it is still our country, right or wrong."

The sixth fold is for where our hearts lie. It is with our heart that we pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

The seventh fold is a tribute to our Armed Forces, for it is through the Armed Forces that we protect our country and our flag against all her enemies, whether they be found within or without the boundaries of our Republic.

The eighth fold is a tribute to the one who entered into the valley of the shadow of death, that we might see the light of day, and to honor mother, for whom it flies on Mother's Day.

The ninth fold is a tribute to womanhood; for it has been through their faith, their love, loyalty and devotion that the character of the men and women who have made this country great has been molded.

The tenth fold is a tribute to the father, for he, too, has given his sons and daughters for the defense of our country since they were first born.

The eleventh fold, in the eyes of a Hebrew citizen represents the lower portion of the seal of King David and King Solomon, and glorifies in their eyes, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

The twelfth fold, in the eyes of a Christian citizen, represents an emblem of eternity and glorifies, in their eyes, God the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit.

The thirteenth fold: When the Flag is completely folded, the stars are uppermost reminding us of our Nation's motto, "In God We Trust." After the Flag is completely folded and tucked in, it takes on the appearance of a cocked hat, ever reminding us of the soldiers who served under General George Washington, and the Sailors and Marines who served under Captain John Paul Jones, who were followed by their comrades and shipmates in the Armed Forces of the United States, preserving for us the rights, privileges, and freedoms we enjoy today.

The next time you see a Flag ceremony honoring someone that has served our country, either in the Armed Forces or in our civilian services such as the Police Force or Fire Department, keep in mind all the important reasons behind each and every movement. They have paid the ultimate sacrifice for all of us by honoring our Flag and our Country.

Hahaha! Tr(Ch)ump is just as big an idiot as the rest of 'em. That is the very unfortunate side of this election cycle. There is no good candidate. There is no good VP candidate. No matter what happens, we're gonna get stuck with someone who should most likely be in prison somewhere.
Now your just being nasty

Well I don't want to get in a political argument just to say Obama is a very very smart man. Trump not so much. And I agree with not a good candidate on either side just have to choose who will do the least damage.

OKay, so what about the appropriate time for an eagle to be perched on the truk? Either with wings spread or not, doesn't matter (I don't think).

Honestly, I don't know that one. I've never seen an eagle perched on the truk. I'm interested enough that I'll be looking for this one! :) Thanks, Von!

Actually I believe that's a ceremonial flag that's carried by a flag bearer. I don't think there would ever be one on a flag pole. Who's gonna climb up there every 15 minutes. ;)

That was my thought, also. But I wonder if there is a particular time when it is "appropriate" versus "not appropriate". Like it's okay during certain ceremonies, but not in parades, or something like that...

Well we are off to meet our old friends. It's going to be hot there like 80+ have to see how it goes.
Hope you have fun! 80?? We call that a cold spell this time of year

I love this!!! Have copied this and if I ever figger out how to get my large format wireless printer to accept the wifi pw I plan on doing a nice thing to be framed with a muted waving flag behind it, and this on top. Thanks!

Gary beat me to it, but yeah, I see them often with color guards. Son was commander of the color guard in JROTC as well as a few other teams. Seems like I have seen them on a truk, but not for many decades, and I could be wrong about that

WOW Kazz! I won't quote the whole thing about the flag ceremony and folds but suffice it to say, I must have something in my eye and a dry hit in my throat!
That was something I did not know and was absolutely beautiful! Thank you my friend! It will ALWAYS be remembered!

The Eagle & Truk is something I picked up while researching "correct" answers to the truck question. It's pretty cool and also something I didn't know before hand. "Learn something new every day", right. ;) :)

Okay, I just read the new posts. Gary, not a "Philadelphia Eagle"! Just an eagle, cast from the same material as the truk. And not a live eagle, that WOULD make a mess! They're beautiful but, have you seen their poop???!!!

Kazz is on the right track but that's all I'm sayin'............... Appropriate vs. inappropriate. OKay, one more hint, NOW would be an appropriate time for an eagle to be perched on the truk. ;)

Have a good evening, Kazz!

totally different subject.. have to rant.. my younger brother keeps posting on his FB lovely ANTZ crap, knowing I've been vaping for nearly 3 years. He believes the WHO stuff from a year+ ago and that the FDA will save us from any adulterated liquids coz we just don't know what's in there, save the children etc.

No matter what I point him to he's dismissive of it, and there's been lot of it over the years, he's a 'we just don't have enough info blah blah' - that is unless it's something negative! I don't think he's missed posting 1 of the ugly, rapidly debunked media frenzies yet. I finally told him to let me know when he finds something in life that has no risk. End of discussion. It's not worth arguing with him. He's a former smoker btw. When did the little brat become so sanctimonious? Very sad.

T-minus and counting for vacation.. vape.. pet cat on lap. ahh, much better.

BTW - if anyone gives you a Roomba, you won't be able to thank them enough. My sister got one and knows my schedule so she surprised me and a box showed up on my doorstep. OMG. My house is getting clean as I type! LOL!

sorry ya have to deal with that with your family. Many former smokers are sanctimonious, particularly those who have just quit without aids. Never did understand that attitude.

Kewlies on the roomba. When I was housesitting, my friend had one and says she loves it. Another friend had one back around 2005 and it was always getting stuck places, corners, under desk etc. Seems like maybe they've made them better now. The other day I saw an infomercial about the bissell pet something or other. As a person who's always had long hair.......omggggggg I loved this! They say they've developed a beater bar that will not get tangled up with hair. I hate having to take the vacuum cleaner head apart and cut and pull.....kills my hands.... to get the hair off that bar. Course with anything, ya gotta wonder if it really works, especially for really long hair

Meet Me in St Louie Louie
Back in the late 1960's, when the film "Easy Rider" came out, I remember a great outcry over Peter Fonda having an American Flag sewn on the back of his jacket, as well as his chopper having a Flag motif .. today, I see flag related goods on about anything you can think of, I saw a young woman over the 4th of July weekend with one sewed on her pants derrière .. although it was a nice derrière .. ;) .. I guess, as a Vet, I have mixed feelings about Societal adoption of the Flag as a fashion statement .. it's just one of those things, you really can't do much of anything about it .. I don't want to get into a row with anyone, although, the Flag Derrière could have been a nice talking point .. ;)

United States Flag Code - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

At any rate, Matt posting his Cat PIC yesterday made me almost want a cat, almost .. if I could find a cat that really looked already like a Lion, and then get the "Lion Cat Haircut", hmmmm .. no, .. however, it was a Great Meme Pic, so I will remember Matt's Cat digitally .. feel free to use these on your Various Social Media if you like .. I am working on one with a comb over, but I need a new cat pic for that .. ;)

My general food routine is :: I'll take something out or go to an Eatery once or twice a week .. many times, I try and make something that I can "recycle" into something else for a few days, one of my favorites being Chili .. the first day, it's Chili, usually over a handful of Fritos with some cheese on top .. the next day, it's Chili with some sort of noodles or rice .. the third day it's maybe a Chili Omelette .. by the forth day, who knows if I can stand it at all .. ;) .. I'll still likely eat it though, because I hate wasting food .. if all the food we waste could be put to good use, no one would go hungry ..

So, I was quite proud of myself yesterday for deciding to make Taco Salads .. I made two, the bowls shaped by one of those Kits you can get at the Grocer where the tortilla is draped over a cardboard form and then baked .. I don't really like to eat the bowl, although I will nibble on it some .. yes, those are my legs sticking out as I was sitting in the recliner getting ready to nosh .. there is just no real purpose for me to sit at my dining room table, although I have one .. Classic Homemade Margarita on the end table next to be within easy reach, 12 ounce tumbler size, thank you .. with 3 Queen Olives and a tiny splash of Olive Juice .. ;)

For Mike and Janet .. you are Golden .. :) cheers ..
