they need that time... growing up my son was a clown,, a funny kid in no hurry to grow up.........i always told him he would be a great dad someday. he is now a new step dad and loves that little girl. :)
Wow.......sounds like our boys have a lot in common. My son got married a little over 3 years ago, and his wife has a daughter from a previous marriage. He's so happy to be a dad, and couldn't love her anymore if she were his own. They're hoping to have one of their own, but have been having some issues with that. She did get pregnant once, but lost it 2 days after they announced it. They'd been planning to wait longer before announcing other than to just family, but couldn't keep the secret any longer from friends. He'll be 32 next month. How old is your son if you don't mind me asking?

wow-quite the recovery....(i have a major soft spot for pets)
I know it's amazing. I have a special soft spot for German Shorthair type dogs. We had 2 sisters from 5 weeks old till one died of liver cancer at 11 and the other old girl made it till she was almost 14. What a pair.

my son was part of small team like yours,, he would be 'out' for weeks at a time.. he has many stories,, many sad,, some 'ok'.. he is my only child,, so i could not even watch the news for years for fear of seeing him hurt on the news.... he called 1 summer day and ask how it was going.. i go off on this long tangent about the heat/humidity.....he says 'Mom,, Mom,, its 120*,, and i stole a govt sat phone to call you on top of a roof where a sniper can get me........................dang if that wasnt a wake up call to getting your priorities straight.
(thank you,, and thank you to your son as well)

wellllll,,, my son is 6'2 slouching.. the Japanese found him to be amusing and he found the local cars to be extremely tiny lol,,, they send many soldiers to more friendly places to re-adjust to normal lives. he loved Japan ,,all of it except the cars of course.

are you kin to iffy?

oh that'll be fun. I don't remember if you said how long his deployment is.
9 months he gets home the 1st part of March so he's getting close to being half way there. Don't know what they have been doing but he gets sent on a lot of "Training Missions" he can't talk much about but I know he is doing a lot of traveling if you look where Kuwait is and coming back from the last went through Jordan. Quite a ways away.

Do they get to come home for R&R with a 9 month deployment?

Jup! Now if you tell me your son's name is Daniel, I'm gonna start whistling the twilight zone theme! hehehe

Yep that's what the month is but he has to stay in the Ft. Bliss area.
No I meant coming home for a couple weeks somewhere around the middle of the 9 months. The month after the deployment is part debriefing like you said, and then also his accrued vacation time for the year.

Then off to Ireland, they both loved it there and thats where he asked her to marry him.
awwww how sweet! I think my son stopped in Ireland on the way to Iraq. (actually kuwait, cuz they had a couple weeks there for acclimation before going on to Iraq), and Scotland on the way home. But all he saw was the airport. Ireland is definitely on my list of places I'd love to visit. So is Scotland.

I imagine that would be kinda tough because there were almost 5000 of them that went at the same time. All Army and about 30 USAF guys.
I wasn't sure with 9 months. The army deploys for 15 months, and army reserves spend 3 months in pre-deployment in another state then deploys for a year, so they both get 2 weeks R&R and can either come home, or go to another country for a couple weeks rest during the deployment.

Well, I'm gonna get off here and get sumpthin to eat and watch some TV if I don't fall asleep on the couch first  Y'all have a good evening!
