Ok, so the car is totalled and we got the check for the equity, about a quarter what we were expecting, but still a good down payment for a vehicle, so the wife went shopping, found one that would do, but we could not get approved for the loan because I am, literally, between jobs, so we are screwed, the only real solution will be for her to talk her parents into letting her drive one of their cars for a couple of weeks and her following me here 3 weeks ahead of plans.

Didn't someone say something about luck?

Sent from a dark, twisted corner of the back porch, covered in cobwebs and slightly damp.

The protection could have changed in the blink of an eye. .... As was the gorilla. Imo, the parents are resonsible for not watching their child thus putting him in danger, & causing the death of the gorilla. The responsibility & blame lies squarely on those parents.
Jane Goodall has viewed the video, and seems to place the blame on the yelling from the spectators. Jane Goodall Responds to Harambe's Death: 'It Looked as Though the Gorilla Was Putting an Arm Around the Child' They should have gotten darted.

From the little that I saw in the coverage of this, it appeared to me that the gorilla was actually attempting to protect the child... and yet, they ended the gorilla's life. I am not one to usually mourn the life of an animal, but I do not believe in senseless killing, either. In my opinion, an animal should only be killed for food, in self defense, or because it is sick/injured and cannot be healed. This particular gorilla was enclosed in his own environment and the child invaded its space. The gorilla should not have had to pay the price for the negligence of the child's parents...

I think the 'perception' of it trying to protect the child is from 'untrained' people in the crowd. A couple articles I read by other zoo keepers experienced w/ gorillas indicated the tight lips, facial expression, actions, etc. indicated the gorilla was extremely agitated. In a split second the little boy could have been seriously injured or killed just because of the shear strength of the gorilla regardless if it was an intentional act or not.

It was said that if they tried a tranquilizer dart, just the penetration of the dart injury could have exacerbated the situation. Yet alone the time it would take the drug to work. It's not instant. What could/would the gorilla do before it was 'drugged down'.

I'm sure the zoo officials did not want to kill the beautiful animal but had no choice to insure the safety of the child.

The zoo would surely counter sue if the parents bring suit. Think how much revenue the zoo will lose w/o one of its star attractions due to the negligence of the parents. Would be quite a court battle.

I've not been posting much lately. I'll not attempt to express myself through a selection of songs, or a long boring monograph...instead, I'll post a meme that will be cryptic to all but one... or possibly two... who truly know me.

Oh yiddle ... you're just a complicated woman ... get your self on the porch so we can give you a hug and help you through whatever's going on right now.

Howdy Kenna!

Just busy doing things & stuff. The garden is really coming along nicely. The Sugar Snap Peas & Alaska Peas in particular. They're nearly 3 feet up the trellis now! The Radishes are doing GREAT too and the Walla Walla Onions have about 1 foot tall "greens". No real surprise with 18 hrs. & 45 min. of daylight now and still nearly 3 weeks from Summer Solstice. (We'll be close to 20 hrs of daylight by then!) The weather has been hit and miss though with quite a bit of overcast and temps ranging from the low 40's (still!) to the low 60's. Not much rain though. We sure hope you guys (Texas) doesn't get any MORE rain and the rains that have been predicted don't pan out. We saw the news last night and it sure doesn't look good!
Here's a week & a half old "panorama" of the garden. Add about a foot to the peas! ;) :)

I got off on a rant on the "Deeming Thread" about the 75% state tax on "Vapor Products" "up here" (YES, Alaska has taken FDA's ball and run with it! All of you other states beware! Now that "Vapor Products" have been "Deemed" "Tobacco Products", your state & local governments are going to be coming after you too! Why wouldn't they, they get a second bite at the "tobacco tax apple"!!! It doesn't matter that the FDA's "Deeming" hasn't taken effect yet. All that matters is that the word is out! [I know, really a "Front Porch Issue" ;)] Just sayin'.) and need to contact my State Representative. I'll be around a little more though. Just    and trying to keep it under control. ;) ;) ;)

Well from what I heard, she ran a day care center. Could have been in over her head with kids. But, dunno.

If so, I'm certain business is booming now .. (that is sarcasm, just to be clear .. ) ..

I say we toss her in a gorilla pit!
(No wait, that would be another gorilla that would have to be put down. Never mind. Just wish there was a cure for stupid! Wasn't there a naked guy who jumped in with a couple of lions or something a week or so ago and they had to be put down too?)

MikeE3 is correct, the zoo had no choice in doing what they had to do. They did try enticing him with treats, etc. but he wasn't interested. "Something" invaded HIS space and he wasn't having any of it. It's just tragic that there are so many Stupid Humans! (IMHO) ;)

Posted this on the front porch but putting it here for those that do not venture there

as per this thread Indiana Call to Action - Stop the Monopoly
Come July selling eliquids in Indiana will be illegal unless you jump through a set of hopes only God could manage or are part of the monopoly that drafted the regs.

Injunction denied in the Hoosier Vapes case.

I'm surprised no one has weighed in on the Gorilla / Small Child Invades Area saga .. I heard (unconfirmed) that the child's parents are planning to Sue the Zoo .. of course, if that happens, I don't suppose it would be a shock ..

Personally, I would place the parent and/or parents in stocks and have them publicly flogged .. and, call me old fashioned, but not a one of the yelling and hysterical crowd, including the parent/parents, had the spine to attempt to rescue the child ..

Stocks.gif

It was a bad situation for everyone. The boy was being a child, not knowing the danger. The mom was probably busy, and the zoo missed some engineering safety protocols. It is a shame the gorilla lost its life due to human errors. I suppose, if I were to see a child trying to get into a cage, and it was not mine I want to believe I would have said or done something. Who knows? I believe everyone there will be scarred from the episode. The mom should have been more attentive, as the by-standers.

Just for my own personal FYI .. is this a legal method of viewing .. ?? I have been toying with various streaming options in order to reduce the extortion exerted by my CATV provider ..

If used, would a VPN be a good idea .. ?? Is the quality audio/video stream HD .. ??

I know you like it, I know you swear by it, I know you've said the content is rich .. so, help a Brother out with some additional review .. ;)

I have KODI, and use a DSL connection. It is a wonderful service, I would say it is a grey area for legality. Some streaming is very good, other stuff, you will be saying "down if front" to the TV because it was recorded in a movie theater, and a person's head is there.

I've had very few cams. I figgered most of the newer ones that haven't hit hbo yet would be but most have been HD.
