I'd like to be the president of the Iffy Fan Club! He loves the Lord, still calls his wife his bride after how many years of marriage? Great sense of humor! He's generous, a loyal friend, and fabulous cook. Just all around great guy! Here's to you, Johnny! :toast:

everything's done but the driving. heading for Anna Maria in the morning.:) it'll take 2 days of driving. the first day being the long day and the 2nd only about 5 hours. really psyched to be down there for a couple of months. it will be great to see family and some old friends. I some times ask myself how I ever left living on the island, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do. Who knows, I might do something crazy and buy a house while I'm down.:D Looking forward to taking the trolley down to the southern most part of the island, Coquina Beach, and walking the entire island to the north tip. it's a beautiful walk of about 7 miles along the beach. Of course i'll stop at 1 or 2 of the beach bars and get something to drink or eat. It's a fun day of catching some rays. By the way, for those coming down next year, the trolley service runs the entire length of the island and it's free. have a good one... I'm shuttin' it down.:)

In my enforced religious upbringing It seemed that being happy was a sin. Kinda like healthy eating, if it tastes good spit it out.
Never really learned how to have fun without guilt....
Boy, do I know about the happy is a sin bit. About 25+ years ago I was going through a 12 step program and had to choose a higher power. I looked at my religion of birth and just shook my head. Yea, like that was going to happen. lol  I knew that wasn't an option. I went to the Chaplains Office to talk to one of our ships Chaplains about my dilemma. I was on the USS Carl Vinson CVN-70, a floating city with a crew of about 5,500. (Info for those not familiar with Navy ships.) It just so happened that the Chaplain that day was a Catholic Priest. I walked out a couple hours later with a whole new outlook. Long story short, a year and a half later I was able to join the Catholic Church and I am still very happy about the choice and still sober. I like to say I'm a Christian by birth and Catholic by choice. lol

After the first 16 years of my life with no choice in the matter I chose not to choose, and I still stand by that choice.
I do envy those that can get comfort thru religion, but that part of me was just burned out of me.
I am a good person, only addiction I ever had was smoking, never been arrested or even gotten a traffic ticket. Mind my own business and let others mind theirs. Help those in need, etc. But religion is not for me. I do not follow any group and am pretty much a true individualist.

What? You have to get a permit ($'s) to take down a tree?
Around here (Broward County) if they think they could get away with it they would require a permit to fart. They just threw Uber and Lift outta the county and even the taxi commissioner's wife wanted them to stay. Wanna know what Florida is like, read anything by Dave Barry or Carl Hiassen. Barry is a columnists with the Miami Herald and Carl's books are all based in South Florida and both are funny as hell.

True Story.
Seversal years back I had to get a security clearance by the FBI to work on some systems in the J Edgar Hoover building in DC.
They got concerned that a person my age had NO criminal history of any kind. They finally granted me clearance though.

Maybe that is my problem I have not sinned enough to repent?

In Temple Terrace FL you have to get a permit which was $35 15 years ago to change an $8 outside faucet on your home.

True but funny. Referencing my last post. Robert, maybe they thought you were too good to be true.

in talking with them about it over the phone they mentioned that it appeared to be a made up identity. I asked them if anyone was going to do that would they make it spotless? Apparently they agreed. Those guys have NO absolutely NO sense of humor though.
Only ones with less of a sense of humor I have met are the DEA guys. They used to dock their boat next to mine in Tarpon springs. It is like they are actually afraid of smiling or joking at all.

Having lived in Broward County for 20+ years, so true! And Barry and Hiassen are both great and oh so true (and funny!) Hiassen is one of my favorite authors, along with Randy Wayne White. White's books main character is Doc Ford, a marine biologist who used to be special ops type, based on Sannibel Island. Sanibel is one of our favorite places to vacation (well, when we used to vacation).
