... they say my cholesterol is right at the upper limit of "good" and want me take medicine for it but I intend to talk them out of it. The blood work last week had nothing else out of whack.

Dave, seriously, both Patty & I took anti-cholesterol pills fer a couple of years. We both stopped 'bout eighteen months ago due to my muscle aches and her lower body weakness. We're both doing better with no appreciable increase in our blood test levels.

No, I'm not a doctor, nor stayed at an Hollday Inn Express last night. But I'd have da doc just monitor your cholesterol levels.

However, they also demonstrated (I think) that they need to do a better job of scheduling. According to two consecutive robocall messages, I've got an endoscopy at 11:40 and a colonoscopy (what I like to call a lower endoscopy) at 12:15, both this Thursday, same building, same doctor. I'll call 'em tomorrow and see if they know what they're doing.

If they want to do 'em consecutively...

... seriously, go fer it. Just have 'em go top-thru-bottom and dat way dey can unscrew da probe at da bottom and easy-peasy all da way up back out! Plus ya only have to go thru da cleansing routine once (well worth da extra 30 minutes 'under').

Yeah, they must just be going all the way thru from top to bottom.

RC,

Meant to 'shout ya out' da other day. Don't know if you've been properly 'greeted' here on da porches yet. If not, grab a rocker and settle in fer da long spell! We have more fun here dan da younlins appreciate.

Thanks, been around just not on this thread for a few days. My home made juice with no artificial flavors or sweetners is working out nice. My mouth and buds are almost plumb healed up. Mostly fruit flavors so far. Going to order some more small bottles of new flavors and then get big bottles of the ones I like.

I do buy tobacco flavored juice though. Had fits trying to find one that was like real cigs. Most was a bit fruity or butterscotchy, etc. Tried all a few vape stores had and finally found Busk Naked American Tobacco flavor. Best so far but still not exactly what I want.

2 months off cigs so far and still a bit of a struggle so I need some tobacco flavor vape sometimes.

I talked 'em out of it when my cholesterol was well above the upper normal limit, so I ought not to have much difficulty now that I got it down to high normal without medication. That was a live call from a nurse but I was on the phone already and missed the call. I think she said something about an over-the-counter med. Is there such an animal?

Not sure, it's been too long since I had either test so I might be misremembering, but I was thinkin' the drano was only for the lower end procedure.

We had a bunch of snow here. When shoveling snow I discovered that my "wind" was light years better than it was just 2 months ago. Got physically sore before I ran out of breath.

Wahoooooo on kickin the cigs!!! That's wonderful that you're doing so much better!

Bells...jup, drano is only for the da bottom. I have had an endoscopy, ya only get happy juice for that. But me and Iffy know it can wear off!!!

Ah! My carport was also part of the big clean-up. For 20 years, I used most of the space there to put a leaking roof over trashy stuff long enough for it rot and rust into complete trash. There wasn't much "do you want to throw this out or keep it?" questioning needed, and my neighbors carted off about 15 pickup truckloads to the convenience center. Most of it was old furniture, some of which I'd garbage-picked when I saw it discarded in town. Some would say my carport is still a mess, but my viewpoint comes from comparison to what it usta was, and it therefore looks pristine, spotless and beautiful.

I could even put a car under there now, if I had a car. It looks SO much better than it did. Fixed the leaking roof, too, somewhat, although my neighbor didn't do a very good job of it. Gonna have to get up there and do some more fixin' and use a lot more nails before the next big hurricane.

I'll be happy when I get my desk cleaned up & my closet cleaned out & repacked! Seriously, the only usable space on my 5'x 3 1/4' giant oak desk is about 5" along the front edge. & the pull out piece. It's an old oak Secretaries desk with the hideaway section on the left where a typewriter is supposed to go. That's where my sewing machine lives. My incentive is to have room to bring my antique hand made tool box in from the living room & set it up for my vape stuff. Gotta sand it down & smooth it out & paint or stain it first, but with the weather warming up it won't be long. It's too wet & rainy right now to do it, but when I dries up I can do it. I like thinking about who made it, & why. In shop class? For Father's Day? Birthday? From need for a place to lock up the chisel's? I have 2 brother's in law & a nephew lusting over it. I already gave one of my brother in laws an elaborate cast iron & chestnut drafting table so he's already got his. I'm hoping Grandson will want it someday!

I would like to apologize to anyone who watched the video in the link I posted. It seems none of us here are old enough to hear people use cuss words. So if I offended anyone, I'm sorry :(

It was ok by me! Amazing. I guess it's because of what the curious non-vapers will think of the culture. All I can think of.

Wow I just had a brain storm. I could go alot more places if I could take my Power Chair. I can walk but have to rest after about a football field. If I had my chair and a rickshaw for my wife cause she couldn't keep up I could get around pretty good. Well a football field might be a little too much close though.

You are just now thinking of that? Good Lord! If I had a power chair & a way to get it in & out of my Tahoe, I'd be all over the place! You'd have to nail my feet to the floor to keep me from going & doing! Move your a-- & get mobile, man!

hey iffy, was wonderin if you wuz still up......

been reading on the VZ thread.....saw you posted early on at least. Did you try the VZ SC apple pie and green apple and just prefer capellas, or have you not tried the ones from VZ? I'm seeing a lot of love for their fruits.

I'm still wid da Capella fer my GAP (Green Apple Pie) due to da flav volume I got quite a while back ago. But, believe me, when I'm near runnin' out, I'll definitely try da VZ (SC or G) route. I luv dat VZ line! Hard to beat .5 - 2.5%...

BTW, my GAP and Janet's Heaven (blueberry <VZG>/pear <TFA>) are da only two non-total-VZ recipes I mix any more.

Very seriously: Take statin drugs if you must, but do not blindly accept them as benign drugs either.

Personal story sure, but I'm not the only person I have commiserated with who developed problems while on statins. In my case the muscle pain - aka "unexplained myalgia" - on Crestor and Lipitor was so bad the pain would knock the wind out of me, drop me to the floor turning white with a cold sweat and make me vomit. (And I have a very high tolerance for pain.) At the Emergency Room - no one was even considering connecting the dots to the statin drug. They were, however, putting me on oxycodone to deal with the pain. WTH!?

Since this would keep happening in cycles, I was so exasperated that I even went to a neuro specialist for nerve conduction tests & MRI's - all negative. Eventually I quit them on my own.

A couple years later it was reported that the maker of Lipitor was not turning over adverse incidents reports they intentionally withheld from the FDA. Suddenly the recommended starting doses for statin drugs was cut in half... And every Doctor and their mother was suddenly willing to admit that "unexplained myalgia" was the most common side effect of statin drugs.

Still having high cholesterol problems I was willing to try once again. This time Pravastatin.

At 10 mg exertion was more difficult and it felt like I had lost control of my legs. It was like they had a mind of their own and were going in 12 different directions when walking. Every so often I would just stop in my tracks because it was so bizarre. It felt like for some reason I had to learn how to walk all over again, as if I forgot how to do it.

Numbers not good enough. At 20 mg my startle reflex was off the charts. If you dropped a toothpick I would be shot out of my chair. Any and every sudden noise produced a PTSD like reaction. And the walking problems and leg muscle tiredness were worse. Then I started reporting the problems but they were brushed off.

Numbers not good enough. At 40 mg I turned into an emotionless zombie. No emotional affect at all. Get off the sofa? Who cares. Not depressed - just emotionally null and void. And the startle reflex continued and by now I couldn't walk up a 15 degree incline without my leg muscles just "turning off". No pain - it was like they said "done" and further exertion was just not going to happen.

I kept going over in my head "What changed? What am I doing wrong? What chang..."

And then the light bulb went off. The only thing that had changed was the incremental increases in the Pravastatin. Looked it up and sure enough "nervousness" and "loss of interrest" are reported side effects of Pravastatin - beyond the muscle weakness issues.

Then I had to get into "pissy" discussions with my cardiac nurse about the side effects.

"Oh, those aren't side effects of Pravastatin."

But they are side effects. Because they have been reported. Look it up.

"Well those side effects are very rare."

So you mean if 1 in 20 people report nervousness or mood problems as a side effect it never happens? And that's considered "rare" in context of how much the drug is prescribed?

"Well we never see them here." (Undertone implied: We don't believe you.)

:facepalm::facepalm: This was at the Shapiro Cardiac Center at the Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston.

Ok, I am admittedly a poster child for adverse side effects when it comes to statins. So don't use that as a reason to not try them. However, if you do develop either physiological or even psychological issues you have never had before taking them, research the drug before you discuss it with perhaps a no-so open-minded health care practitioner. The free drug reference database at Mayoclinic.org is quite good and one of a few that drug stores use as a reference as well. (Micromedex)
