I get what the guy means, about the positive body. The hot end of the battery charges the body of the mod. If the body comes in contact with a ground, it discharges to the ground. Ok, I know what to avoid when I have it set up like that.

What ground is that you are referring to?

Well, I think it's pretty! Maybe you can ask for a few more because it won't take long to outgrow them. We went from one container to another until we ended up with lots of containers... So, we recently gathered up all our vape stuff to get it organized in one place and we needed our old secretary to house it all. The top has 3 shelves behind doors with a desk in the middle and 3 drawers below the desk. Between our devices and DIY stuff it's amazing how much of that secretary is filled.
[/QUOTE]

Thank you - glad you like it! What a great idea about the desk! I bought my first house a couple of months ago and the owner sold me an antique General Withrop secretary desk that has secret compartments! On either side of the little door up top are 2 columns that you can pull out...they're vertical drawers. I've been learning how to refinish furniture and am wanting to restore this gem...maybe this will motivate me...after I finish painting...etc.

It wouldn't let me post it...here's a photo I found on the internet: http://cdn.brownstoner.com/forum/archives/GovWin3.jpg

I think what some are missing is that the mech unit sends power to the coil, NOT the body. The body is isolated from the power. It might seem like the body is involved but it isn't. If there was power going thru the whole body, that would reeeeely hurt no matter what the polarity. Not to mention, the coil would never fire. Whatever side on the coil that gets power first (+/- or left or right) doesn't matter. The circuit is complete.

tomorrow I will get my wiggy out and take the thing apart, find out if it is using the casing as a conductor or not. Interesting project.

Any electrical ground, a metal table, a car hood, anything that can act as an electrical ground. Not much of an issue during normal use. But something to be aware of.

A metal table, car hood, or even a copper pipe driven into the ground is not going to provide a DC ground. Take a battery and go around touching the positive end of it to some of these things to prove it to yourself. You can even touch the positive terminal of one battery to the negative end of another battery and nothing will happen.

The body is connected to one side of the coil and the positive end of the battery is connected to the other side of the coil. When the switch connects the negative side of the battery to the body of the mech, the circuit is completed and current will flow from the negative side of the battery through the body of the mech, through the coil and back into the positive terminal of the battery.

Dunno much about mechs but I always thot somehow they were completely mechanical. Have a couple but never operated on one. :)
But this sounds like it may have a diode in line somewhere and it's been installed backwards. If that's the case, the batt in backwards would be the only way it would work. And not a problem really. Is it a clone?

Mechs are completely mechanical and do not contain electronics. A mech is a metal battery tube with a switch. That is why battery polarity in a mech is irrelevant.

I stand corrected! :)

Makes sense. The coil is the weakest link so it gets hot and glows.

I am done with this RSST.

Should have never clicked that youtube link on wicking one with cotton. Now, I've wasted at least an hour or two fiddling with the damn thing!

AND... I'm still looking at having to syringe the juice back out of it, take it apart into a bunch of little bitty pieces, wash it while being very careful none of those little bitty pieces go down the drain, spread it out to dry for a few hours (taking up valuable real estate on my vape workspace), put it back together, and BURY IT DEEP into a far far back corner of my vapeageddon box.

I guess can see myself rigging it up and trying to use it again, under certain circumstances:

We're 3 years into a complete and total vapocalypse and I still haven't weaned myself off nicotine. I've used up all 100' of my 30, 31, and 32g wire on Protank 2s, and burned up all the PT grommets trying to use 28g... and can't get anymore of either. All the Evods have long been cracked, but used anyway til it's just hopeless. All the CE4/5s I started with and still have packed away are totally shot and not rebuildable... the Igo-L, Aspires, and any other topper I might buy before then have been destroyed in a house fire or run over by a double-clutching semi-trailer truck. I've been 3-4 days without a vape, about to go totally nuts, and the RSST is my only choice. Then, and only then, I might (MIGHT) once again try to like this thing... but think I'd rather do without.

Ahhhh... I feel better now... thanks.

And it's official... As far as I'm concerned. Since I have no plans to buy anything today. Even tough I bought a Provari this month, I have now officially gone into the black with my spending after 1 year and 4 months! I'm now $46 richer tan if I still smoked.
Moral: don't go overboard wth new toys!!

image.jpg let's see what's in the box!

image.jpg . Lots of nice things there. I now have my backup charger.

I will be testing this through the week.

I noticed something though with the batteries vs my Zmax
image.jpg

Yep. One size larger battery in the Provari is about the same size.
