Also, be really careful not to overtighten the center pin. The pin itself is a fairly thin tube, and some people have actually snapped the center pin by overtightening it. I think pbusardo actually managed to do that with his Russian V2, if I remember correctly.

Good tip!... hadn't thought of that.

It's overcast here today and I have a little extra time, so I broke out the light box and set it up on the deck table:

Protank 2 w/ Aero base, drilled out air holes to 1.40mm, on a sigelei #20 mod
3D "auto-dripper", drilled out air hole, on Nemesis mod in hybrid mode
EHPro KFL+ v2 "second edition" on brass Sentinel mod

On the KFL+, you can see light through the air holes as I was referring to in the previous post.

Here's my new Davide on my fairly new 69 mod:

Great pictures!

Nice pictures!

Have you noticed much of a difference between your 69 mod and the Sigelei #20? I think it would be nice to have a mod with a side button instead of a bottom button.

Thanks guys, I give all the credit to the camera... it's been a good 'un...

Papa, I like the 69 just fine, but not as well as the good ol' #20. The 20 is a good bit shorter, button doesn't protrude as far, finish is more durable (harder SS?), no sharp edges, center pin is non-adjustable so no worries about it screwing itself up or down as on the 69... and it just feels "right" in my hand, very easy to handle, use, and keep a good grip on. The downside to the 20 is the firing mechanism... it's has a spring that's prone burn in two and fail, or (worse) hard short by "welding" itself together over time. (see below)

The 69 has adjustable center pin, a safe fire button design, dependable button lock, and no springs... and Bonus!... I figured out why it's named 69!

You can assemble it with the button on the top or bottom.

When I finished the picture above, I scooped all the mods up in one hand and accidentally pressed the fire button on the 20. The button was in contact with the body of another of the mods and HARD SHORTED!!! That thing got hot as a firecracker in about 2 seconds flat! Melted the plastic part of the firing mechanism, fried it, and ~almost~ fried one of my prize Panasonic CGR18650CH "Iffy" batteries... the batt. was too hot to touch, but held up like a champ. After it cooled, it was still measuring ~4 volts, so I'll charge it after while and go from there.

{insert primal scream here} Gaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh!

I won't know how to get along without my beloved #20, and have received zero responses to my WTB ad.

Gaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh!

OUCH! I'm adding that to my list of "things to not do." I'm glad your battery didn't vent! Good thing you had a safe build in there, instead of a crazy subohm, "but it's OK because it says here you can pulse it up to 60A, and I've been running it for over a month and my battery hasn't exploded yet" build.

As long as I'm knocking around the house this morning...

Here's my favorite PV holder:

1aa94a5d-8db8-4bd5-b5b1-19dac49fabae_zps1d40a4dc.jpg

It's a 2" PVC pipe coupler (gray part) with a flat endcap (white part)... total cost = ~$2.50 at Home Depot.

I number them because now I have so many! I buy two or three (or four) every time I go to HD. I have one bedside, one in every room of the house, one in both golf carts' drink holders, deck table, shop, and all four road vehicles in the yard. They fit perfectly in auto drink holders, and stand reliably on any flat surface, even with a tall PV such as a Vamo (18650) with a full Nautilus on it... cheap too.

Oh no - that's certainly not good. Worse for me so far, was a mech in my pocket and the fire button stuck. All of a sudden I had that lighter fluid leak burning feeling on my thigh. hmmm? I didn't have my Zippo in my pocket. I reached in to get it and the atty was so hot I could just about hold it to get it our of my pocket.

Not quite the same way but for all extents and purposes he "overstressed" the center pin. Looking at mine I'm seeing maybe an eighth of a turn at most. I'll do it next time the tank is empty which the way I vape (like a chain smoker) that should be about an hour.

Definately not good and very scary. Can we still use those safety fuse thingies or are we pulling too much amperage these days? The latter I think. Wish the was some way to build some kind of safety into todays high amp low ohm builds.

Right, now I remember, he was unscrewing the base that the center pin goes through, without the center pin unscrewing from the positive connector on the build deck, and the center pin was getting stretched harder, and harder, until it snapped. But, I have read about other people overtightening the center pin and snapping it. Just no one famous :)

The SmokTech one goes up to 7A, which should be good up to 30W or so. I would think that was enough for most people (I like thick vapor, but 20W is plenty for me). They might even have higher rated fuses, if someone is really desperate.
