So, I'm doing pretty good on my stocking up, especially on devices, since with everybody's help I found $10 VV v3s and $5 Davides. At those prices I'll probably get a few more just because I can. I'm working on nicotine, but not sure how much I need, since lately I've been vaping a lot less.

The next stage is more protank coils, not nearly as much fun to buy, but it is what it is. I've also been saving my old ones and plan on buying some kanthal in case I reach the point where I have to rebuild. So my questions on that are:
  • Which coiling jig requires the absolute least precision on my part?
  • What gauge kanthal would work best for those? or
  • Would it be easier on the precision end to also get a rebuildable tank instead? and if so,
  • Which RBA would be the easiest and have the most room for attaching the coil? and
  • Which would work best for my 1.8-2.2 ohm range? and
  • Whether it would be simpler to buy a bunch of pre-wound coils? (if I could find any that aren't sub-ohm.)

Many are still going. For how long? Who knows.

  • I like the coil master V3 jig. It is bigger around than most, so with your hands it will be easier to grasp and turn the knob
  • 28g kanthal on a 3mm rod will require 9, 10, or 11 wraps to give you 1.8, 2, 2.2 ohms respectively. 28g will be easier to work with and to see than smaller gauges.
  • an RBA will definitely give you more room, but the screws could give you issues. Don't remember how your eyesight is. If it's good, it might be easier to use thinner wire, do less wraps, like 30g and rebuild the protank coils. Not sure of this since I've never seen one. But many of those types, you just slip one leg of the coil through a rubber grommet (insulator), and put the rod between to slits, which puts the coil in place, and slide the rod out. Hope that makes sense. Watching some vids on both RBA and rebuilding protank coils will help you decide which would be easier for you.

If anyone is sitting on the fence about getting a ProVari 2.5, you better get moving. All but the black ones have been marked down to $29.95 and there don't seem to that many of them left. ProVari Regular & Mini Variable Voltage Ecig: Best Variable Voltage E Cig Available! The unpainted ones are listed in the "Specials" section.

Belated Happy Halloween! Hope it was a good one and the candy fairy was generous to all of you. :)

Okeydokey... then I'll just drop this here.

Wow, you guys have been through far more than your fair share. :( I'm glad the lung thing will "only" be "short term." Sounds very painful.

I have nothing nice to say about insurance companies. Overjoyed you've still found a way to get her into the program and dearly hope it goes phenomenally for her.

I did see your previous post, I just wasn't able to coherently respond at the time (reaction to antibiotics). Thank you for the FP posts, it's most appreciated. We're all pulling for you both and care deeply.

@mattiem can point you to premade coils on FT. :)

If you buy the PT coils from FT and buy a minimum of five boxes, they are $2.91 per 5 pack. $3.29 Authentic KangerTech Protank Clearomizer Coil Heads (5-Pack) 5-pack - 1.8ohm at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

Thinking back, it's amazing how many porchers have gone from from premade coils and store-bought juice to rebuilding and DIY, they put the kiddies to shame. I built coils for a while, then got lazy (especially after finding them on FT) and haven't rebuilt in eons. At least I got over my phobia about 100mg/ml nic (I better, it's all I have left in the freezer).

I was now going to tell you that when I rebuilt coils, I used 32g kanthal at 6 wraps on a 2mm (or 2.5mm) rod but my entire rebuilding box has disappeared. I loath these pills but have faith you'll get a zillion accurate answers from the others. If you do buy wire, get it from Temco. Good clean wire from a reputable vendor with excellent service and a low price.

Still sitting on your mail. Last pill is tomorrow and then I should be able to get myself in gear. Humble apologies. :nun:

FOr protank heads? at 1.8-2.2 I'd use 30 or 32 gauge kanthal and you would want a jig with a SMALL diameter rod you just do not have much room to work with in there. I wrap mine without a jig because I still do protank heads the old fashioned way with Kanthal and silica wick.

Some might argue with me but I still think the protank Mini is one of the easiest build decks for a tank. FOr that one what Deb said works well. 28 gauge on a larger rod.

I rebuilt my protanks for my wife and I for almost 2 years and loved them until the subtank showed up at the house.
- as long as your jig fits into the slots of the protank head you can use it as a coil jig.
- I found 32 gauge too thin and once it dryburns a few times it gets weak and distorts easily. I made our PT coils with 30 gauge, IMO the 28 can be used but it requires too many wraps, gets too hot thus heating up the base, discoloring your juice faster and not enough airflow to support lower ohm builds even with a kanger airflow adapter thats been drilled out.
- I've been using the kanger subtank mini with its RBA and have had no issues with that atty at all
- very easy to build tootle puffer coil builds. I build my wife 1.4-1.6ohm builds in the subtank mini and she is a happy vaper, me on the other hand love my low ohm clapton builds.
- never bought prewound coils. I just build the coils I want.
Be sure you buy the spare orings and insulators for your protanks. Not the orings as much as the positive insulators, they dry up and get crispy after time and also if you dryburn the head too hot or have "hot legs" you will scorch and burn the insulator. Enjoy rebuilding your protanks, those protanks set the stage for me to have the confidence to recoil all my attys and have top shelf vape experience with ordinary gear.
Even with a brand new PT head, you remove the silica, replace it with cotton and the change in vape quality is outstanding.

I forgot to add is that I'm pretty sure the Davide and protank are interchangeable. I used a sigelei puritanks that is a davide clone and used all my protank parts along with the base. The davide holds more juice than the protank so thats why I liked them more than the protanks until they got broken and I had to go back to using the PT.

@amoret, if you are up for getting something new, perhaps consider the KF5. The build deck is big and very easy. KF's want ohm+ builds; they are flavor machines! I use 26 or 28 gauge kanthal and a 2.5mm (coilmaster) jig with no issues (and I'm not a particularly good builder). Others may have different experiences, but with 26-28 ga, I can get several months out of a coil, with weekly dry burning.

I agree!!! I have been rebuilding the heads for years now. I have found (as others stated) that 30 gauge kanthal works best. 8 or 9 wraps (on my needle....) will get you what you want and still fit. I build these coils using a 16g blunt tip needle, but my hands still work. You do want the mandrel you wrap on to fit into the little grooves on the assembly.

as for the insulating grommets, yes!! Buy lots!! They do wear out. Here is where I get mine. They also sell the silicon ones, but I personally find the rubber ones last longer.

50-pack Rubber Insulators for Coil Rebuilding by clonecores

checked a needle gauge sizing chart, looks like a 16g needle is slightly smaller than 2mm.

for the insulators for your protank heads Welcome to clonecores use the code ebay10 for 10% off

OOOOO, thank you mattiem! I want to get some more (paranoid, yes, but I am also rebuilding for a friend). Didn't know about the 10% off! KOOL!!!

The rubber insulators are less prone to "squishing" when screwing on your atty. The silicone(opaque) were a huge problem when they came out with becoming super soft once wet with juice and/or heat and blocking off the airflow. The kanger airflow adapter solved the blocked airflow from the silicone insulator or use the mini base with the regular protank topper. If you do happen to use the silicone insulators you will have to learn to pull the positive pin out a ioda and pull the unsulator down every time you screw the atty back onto the hitter, also not to tighten the atty down or it will squish.

Kaez, that's such good news.

Thanks, Vape. :) I should have more news to share in the near future. She's meeting with the clinical trial group today.

She's been through far more than I, that's for sure. And yes, the lung thing has been causing her an immense amount of pain over the last several weeks. :( Fortunately, she has some really good pain meds.

Your love and care and support are most appreciated, Dear Tutu! Praying that the antibiotics have done their job and that you are getting better now. Reactions and side effects of medications are never fun to deal with. :( I hate when anyone that I care for has to suffer through those effects, and I care deeply about all of you here.:wub::wub:

I'm so looking forward to actually visit a Vape shop. I'd probably spend too much. Are most still up and running? There are a couple in AU, in other states, but no Nic. I did see somewhere that doctors can now prescribe it for therapeutic use. But that would be for quitting.

Well, yes, and quitting can take some time.... ;)

oh kewl! Have always wanted to visit N. Carolina. We have some porchers in both places, would be so kewl if y'all could meet up if you have time. Of course family is the most important.

Not sure that many wraps will fit in the coil assembly.....
jup, for the part you quoted I was talking about an RBA but probably didn't make that clear. In the next bullet I mentioned 30g and a smaller rod for the protank coils.

I watched this, last night. Long, but very informative!

Oh! Good morning, and Happy All Saints' Day!

Jup! I watched I dunno, few days or week ago or something. was very good.

I should have more news to share in the near future. She's meeting with the clinical trial group today.
Oh hope that goes really great!!

Well, yes, and quitting can take some time.... ;)
Jup! nearly 4.5 yrs and counting hehehe
