To all the new porch arrivals, welcome!

Animals-Waving-Goodbye-14.jpg

I can assure you that my cat was named Orange Person as far back as Spring of 2008, when I first met her, long before current events gave extra weight to that name. I was trying very hard to avoid having cats (I have three left now that Orange Person is gone, but I wanted to have none,) and didn't want to give her a name, because naming her would mean I had to keep her. My other cats are named, incidentally, little boy, little girl, and mackerel, for similar reasons (mackerel because he is a mackerel tabby.)

A Chinese woman I knew at the time first called her Orange Person, due to her interesting and endlessly entertaining interpretation of the English language. The name stuck, the cat stuck, and while the Chinese woman is long gone I still have three cats.

I believe you. My humble apologies for mentioning it. I've been reading too many comments on news articles lately...

It's wonderful that you could give her a good life, recognize that she was a unique individual and love her with all your heart. She was a very lucky cat and sounds like a wonderful character.

I too didn't want a cat. I moved down here 22 years ago to work six weeks for the USFS. Within the first few days of moving into the barracks (house), a cat showed up, and immediately decided to move in with me. :grr: I'm a dog person. Nothing wrong with cats, I just prefer dogs.

Turned out she'd been living up at the men's barracks and they soon hauled her food down to our place since she wouldn't leave.

Her "dad" was away working on a helitack crew for the summer but when he got back, she still insisted on living in the women's barracks. She loved Dad but refused to leave.

Dad and I have been married for years, she's been gone a long time but we both still miss her a lot.

Very cool! Where is your Angry Bird & flamingo?

I'm saving them for when I have to go up to Sacramento for surgery. You know, something feel-good to look forward too. :)

@FlamingoTutu my DH just said there are several fires in Yosemite…I hope they're nowhere near you.

I can't find anything about fires in the park (which isn't saying much about the press here). :( They had some hefty t-storms lately. If they're in the high country and away from the tourists, they let them burn naturally as long as they weren't human caused.

Any fire that starts in YNP ain't going to travel here. Topography, winds, etc. It just won't happen. Plus they lost hundreds of square miles (maybe not that much in the park itself, the the total fire was 400 square miles) several years ago. Good buffer, sad situation.

I'm prattling on to reassure people. If you hear of a fire west of YNP, that's a different story. Our immediate area is completely devastated by the bug kill. There will be a fire here, whether we're in the path or someone else, who knows. Terrifying year.

That's prolly why there's a pile of them in the corner next to the lobster pot. Which is a whole 'nother seating story.

The lobster pot. :grr:

I just made 240ml of juice with 4mg instead of 5mg. Wish me luck. I'll be trilled if I don't notice the difference.

Thanks for the welcomes!
I do love rocking chairs! I just retired and my departure gift was a Cracker Barrel rocking chair! Mr. Chill retired and after 32 years with his company he got a Ninja coffee maker! So now I happily rock while I have my morning coffee!

@go_player I thought you might find some comfort in this poem. It's similar to the Rainbow Bridge but for pets that were euthanized. I was in the veterinary profession until I retired and it gave much comfort to many of our clients. I'm sorry I'm a little late posting this but I had to get to my PC to post it.

"If it should be that I grow weak
and pain should keep me from my sleep.
Then you must do what must be done
for this last battle can't be won.

You will be sad, I understand
but don't let grief then stay your hand.
For this day more than all the rest
your love for me must stand the test.

We've had so many happy years
what is to come can hold no fears.
You don't want me to suffer so
the time has come, please let me go.

Take me where my needs they'll tend
but please stay with me 'til the end.
To hold me close and speak to me
until my eyes no longer see.

I know in time you will see
it was a kindness done for me.
Although my tail its last has waved
from pain and suffering I’ve been saved.

Please do not grieve that it was you
who had this painful thing to do.
We've been so close, we two, these years
don’t let your heart hold back its tears. "

I'm sitting on my porch/patio missing my cat. She probably had GI lymphoma, and I was looking into treatments that might have kept her around for a while, but she took a sudden turn for the worse on Wednesday night, and when I took her to the vet the next day I knew it was probably her last ride. She'd been OK until Wednesday morning, but suddenly something had gone very wrong.

I would have done just about anything to keep her around a bit longer, and I had an appointment with a feline oncologist for Monday morning, but after a last ultrasound and an examination of the fluid in her abdomen it became clear that she had reached the end of what one small cat could be asked to put up with. I spent twenty minutes saying goodbye to her, and then we proceeded. Wow, it was fast.

Orange Person was the sweetest cat I've ever known, and I've known a few. Everyone who met her wanted her (it's generally difficult to find a home for an adult cat, but I had to tell people that they couldn't take her. She'd meet someone new and jump into their arms, put her paws around their neck, and they would want to take her home.) For nine years, no matter how I slept or who I slept with, she slept on top of me. She was like a lumberjack in a log-rolling contest- I'd roll in my sleep and she'd adjust so she stayed sitting on me, all night, every night. I'm going to miss her.
I don't know if I welcomed you to the porch or not so let me say it is nice to see you. Make yourself comfy and visit often.

That chair looks so comfy! Can I join in?
Welcome to the porch grab a chair, get comfortable, and feel free to chat while you partake in your favorite drink.

Thank you, Bea. I like this version for those of us who had to help our furbabies pass on.

Retirement is fun!!!

I can't figure out how I ever had the time for work.
Got up this morning with absolutely nothing to do, and by golly I had half of it done by noon.

Don't worry if you don't finish it today ... there's always tomorrow.

Love this
But the more things I add to my "I have time to do it" list, the less I get done! I use to work well under pressure and now there is none!

JUP! I'm a huge fan of Temco. As Kenna said, I trust their wire. Lightning vapes had better prices on 100 ft, but when I saw that 250 feet was pennies more than 100 ft, it brought the overall price back to about what LV sells for, and of course, I just feel more comfy buying wire from Temco that's made in the US best I can tell.

lol Don't do it with most folks even if I'm excited to meet em, as I was with you. But Iffy is my bubba! After 4+ years of wanting so badly to be able to hug him in person and finally getting to, I was over the moon.

Got my flavors in a bit ago! I had a 90% off voucher for RTS I'd won awhile back. they sent me two extra bottles of something I ordered, and a bottle of something I didn't order and will likely never use unless someone I make juice for wants it (tobacco)
But they didn't send a 30 ml bottle of something I did order and need for a recipe I wanna try. I sent a ticket and told em I spect things are chaotic around there so understandable. I'm sure they'll send it. Told em I really hate they going out of business. The vape community is losing a wonderful vendor, and they'll be missed here on ECF too. They also sent me 6 pens, which I will give to my gd. I was planning to buy her some next time I got out cuz she's always asking for a pen. Need to get her a pen holder now that she has a desk. I'll likely give her a couple at a time to see if she keeps up with them or loses them lol
I ordered a 100' roll of 30 guage stainless. They sent me 250' feet instead. I rebuild twice a month, 6" for each build. 250' is a 20 year supply. I too have bought from RTS and have an order pending that was shipped today. Besides some nicotine I got my glass cylinders from them in previous orders. The final order was to complete the cylinder set, some higher end screw caps and some creamsicle flavoring. Normally I only vape one flavor but promised eventually I'd try a flavor I loved as a kid.

I should add I trust myfreedomsmokes but it's kind of academic now. I've almost completed my nic buys, one more bottle from them, atomizers are complete. Now it's just how many more mods I need to feel comfortable, a few at most.

Thank you Mike for expressing what I know and feel. My heartfelt feelings go out to Diver and anybody who is going through something such as he is. I hate that old adage that time will heal everything,...as you stated....it doesn't. There are some wounds that leave a hole in your heart that will never go away....all that time does is allow us to learn to cope better with it. Still, there will be times when something caught out of the corner of one's eye while simply taking a walk somewhere, a few bars of a song, or a faint scent that will catch us off guard.....

For me, there are three times a year that are very difficult....birthday....which was on a holiday, date of death....another holiday.....and Christmas that has never been the same since....
Very well stated, thank you.

Retirement is nice. I have a bit of a routine, I start off having a very nice vape with my morning coffee. Then I have a few more great vapes with my afternoon coffee. Yeap, that is the pattern forming. Today's pattern was changed as I had to make 100 ml of 5mg/ml of my ADV. That change up happens about once a week. I started vaping to cut down on the number of cigarettes I smoked, 2 1/2 packs a day. I can say I have been cig free for over 2 years and 4 months. Like I said, I didn't plan on quitting but after vaping for a while I didn't see a need to go around stinking from the cigs or any of the other maladies.
This morning my daughter as me what I was going to do today. I told her I was doing nothing. She said that's what you did yesterday. I told her I didn't finish it.
