Older Folks and Vaping Front Porch - Part Four

I have been at this vaping thing for 2 years now i think. It was just the other day that I had a cigarette and it really grossed me out. We would go to a friends house to hang out and it seemed we always ended up buying a pack before we went over there and came home with none. The last time i went over my wife bought a pack and i was just not interested. I sat there and vaped all night while everyone else smoked. Now i vaped an entire 7ml tank that night, but still all i did was vape. I was very proud that night.

There's a million baccy flavors out there. There's a multi-gazillion other flavors. The key to quitting is finding that "magic" elixir that you just can't get enuff of. Once you hit that, the analogs don't stand a chance. Problem is, you can't really ask for a good flavor. Every taste bud is different so it's a trial and error process. Sadly, it's mostly error! But it/they are out there.

This is true. I just wish i was not a chain vaper. I never put mine down. It does not matter the nic, i think it is all a hand to mouth thing so i had to lower the nic so i did not kill myself. lol i spend almost as much on liquid as i did on cigarettes. It is just sad.

I'm never without mine. But it's not really the nic that's a problem. It's mostly the tar in tobacco that can kill you. Doesn't exist in a vape.

Hello everyone. This is my first time in any of the Porch threads. I usually just hang out in the Provape area. Most of the general forum seems to be people that want to blow clouds and use very high wattage. Makes me feel old and kinda out dated. I have been on ECF for a few years now. On and off that is. I found being here was hurting my wallet too much. lol

Thought i would give yall a little back ground on me. I started smoking at 12. Mostly just the ones i found people had thrown out. Was not really sure how to go buy my own at that age. As time progressed so did my smoking. I got up to 2-3 PAD before i found vaping. Some friends had gotten some egos and were using them, and i just thought it was crazy. Then some other friends got some of the cigalikes from the gas station. My then GF (now wife) gave it a try cause they had an acia berry flavor. We gave that a try for a bit, but we were both still smoking just as much. I did not find the benefit of doing both and it was costing us way too much money. So we quit that.

A while later i got a new car and decided i did not want to smoke in it. About that time a small vape shop opened by the house so i went and tried it out. Got a small ego and a disposable tank. My wife waited to see how i did cause again she did not want us to waist money we did not have. Next thing i knew i had quit smoking. She went out and got her one and the journey started. I found ECF and things went from bad to worse. Now all i could do was talk about vaping and it almost destroyed us. lol I wanted to get everything people talked about. I wanted to up the vape game. I wanted the flavors to be better and i thought set ups would help that. I knew vaping was my end all be all and i did not want to get a bunch of crap that would just break.

Next thing i knew i was ordering us both a provari and much better tanks. I found that the provari was hard to hide on my desk so i found the vapor shark. The size was just perfect. I got two of those, but found that the quality of them was just not that great after all. They did what they were supposed to and i liked them ok, but they started crapping out. The provape came out with the radius and i am now in love.

My wife and i hit all the conventions we can that come to town. My wife loves it cause she gets to meet people and she is a flavor junkie. We leave those things so broke cause she buys so much liquid it is crazy.

I guess i would consider vaping a hobby since it relaxes me to sit and tinker with my toys. I dont make crazy coils or anything like that. I just sit and clean and fill. I got my wife a kabuki a while back and she loves it. She was not thrilled about the price, but she is glad she has it. lol I am gonna keep looking and see if i can find her another at a decent price so she can have two. She does not build any thing and really just likes the ease of changing out a head and moving it along. If it keeps her smoke free then i am all for it. We just got married this year and I want to make sure i keep her around for a good long while.

So that is it. Us in a nutshell. I am looking forward to getting to know people in here. Everyone have a Happy New Year and heres to another year cigarette free!!!

Welcome to the porch @Vicshalls , My wife and I started vaping together 4+ years ago. She quit the smokes the day her 808's arrived. Me not so fast ... took a couple months before I was done w/ smoking. Went from the itty-bitty stick batts to Provari's within a couple months. Then cycled through mech's and temp control mods. Now we're back to Provari's again. We both have a bunch of tube P's and now she has 2 Radii and I have one.

Hello fellow middle aged vapers! I'm Fitz, I'm 64, smoked cigarettes since I was 13, and I have been vaping for 6 weeks. I feel like the elder stateman in the vape shops, but when the folks in the shops realize that I know what I'm talking about, we all get along just fine. I love the gear. Lots of new toys to play with, and that is great. I am still struggling with cigarettes, having one or two a day even though they taste like total crap. I honestly believe that I will completely get off of them, mainly because the more I vape, the worse cigarettes become. This is total alien behavior to me. I all of my previous efforts, the longer I stayed away from cigarettes, the better they would smell. I have made it as long as 5 years in the past, but that wonderful aroma of a freshly lit Marlboro drove me right back to them. "I'm mature. I can have just one." Yea right. Vaping is so different, though. I am not feeling the guilt about having an occasional cigarette because I have no craving for smoking a lot of cigarettes. Even when drinking beer! Vaping simply puts such a negative flavor on cigarettes that I don't crave them anymore. Why I am still having an occasional cigarette I really don't know--something is driving me to it--perhaps it's remembering how wonderful it used to be, but If I can't go there again, that's a great thing, and I fell in the long run I will be able to put them down forever. Anyone else have these feelings?

Hi and welcome @fitzinthewindow , always nice to have new folks join us on the porch. Sounds like you're off to a good start. Not every one makes the switch from smokes to vaping straight away so don't knock yourself for the occasional smoke. I was 2 1/2 PPD, at least when I started vaping. Pretty quickly I cut down to 1/2 PPD, then about 4 or 5 comes a day. I think it was around 2 months after I started vaping that one afternoon I realized I hadn't had a smoke yet that day. hmmm, I says to myself, maybe today's the 1st day of being smoke free .. and yep that was it for me. Haven't had once since 4+ years later. You can do it.

Don't fool yourself, Mr. Ock is the worst of them. And sales still encourage people to buy more than they ought.

You really NEED another mod....

I'm sitting on a possible order with FT. I really want a full house of 12 Orchids. All I want is two more chimneys and topcaps. WANT, not need. Topcaps are OOS, will wait until they are back, I think.

err ummm ... me thinks you need 8 more mods. You've got 4 now but will have 12 Orchids. Those poor Orchids w/o mods are going to feel left out. Can't have unhappy mods around.

unh-unh. Each mod has three Orchids. Four mods is enough to banish all possibility of vaper's tongue. Of course, I have always rotated flavors fast enough that I have never had problems that way. I have ten juices in my stable, and really want to add another two to my rotation. Since I started dedicating one flavor to each Orchid, my enjoyment has increased.

Then my wife starting DIYing our own and the cost of juice is now so cheap that I don't feel bad pouring a couple ml down the drain when it's time to clean and re-wick an atty.

To steal Iffy's line ... if I'm awake I vape. I started at 24 but that lasted less than a month. Then went to 18 for the next few years. For about year now I'm vaping at 12mg. It was spendy way back when we were buying juice for 2 people. Then my wife starting DIYing our own and the cost of juice is now so cheap that I don't feel bad pouring a couple ml down the drain when it's time to clean and re-wick an atty.

I have many times in the past considered it. I am by no means a chef. I can grill a great steak though. lol We dont have much space so finding a place that my animals wont get to things is hard. Especially that shady cat of ours. I think she would knock something down just to try and kill the dogs. lol I have tried to look at recipes but dont really follow them well. And i really cant figure out what to get to start with. I do know i would want 100 mg nic, but beyond that no clue. I am worried i would spend even more than i am spending now just trying to figure it all out. Then my accountant (the wife) would kill me. I have seen the starter kits, but dang it there are so many and i just dont know what would be the best deal in the long run. Right now i vape a clear RY4 that i found and a cheap fruit loop vape for my ADV and beyond that i just try different things that sound good. lol

I have tried to look at recipes but dont really follow them well. And i really cant figure out what to get to start with. I do know i would want 100 mg nic, but beyond that no clue. I am worried i would spend even more than i am spending now just trying to figure it all out.

I first take out 1 of those bottles, let it warm a bit, dump it into a jar. Then I add enough pg and vg to my liking using the same measuring cup. This makes unflavored juice basically 500 mls of it 24mg nic. When I'm ready to make flavored juice, I use a 10 ml syring and pull up 10 mls, or 30 mls, or even 120 mls if I'm making my all day vape (adv) I use a 10 ml cuz that's the biggest one I have right now, at some point I'll get a 60 ml syringe. I don't use needles. Ok, so pull up ever how much I'm going to make of a particular flavor, and use the ejuice me up calculator to figure out how much flavor to put in usually using a 1 ml syringe, again, no needle. So my equipment is a jar, 1 cup pyrex measuring cup, 10 ml syring, and 1 ml syringe. I got a gallon of pg and vg each including shipping from essential depot, it's now around 43.00 I think for both gallons shipped. Nic is 40.00 to 50.00 a liter for 100 mg. You can spend more but that's for good nic from MFS. If you can get two liters at a time, shipping is free. That's it. I make my base at 70pg and 24 mg nic. After adding flavors, I'm somewhere around 22mg nic and somewhere between 70 and 75 pg. whatever it is it works for me. There are many single flavors that are really good. You don't need fancy recipes.

Heck that would be cool. I vape at 3mg and the wife at 6 or 3. we would have stuff for years at that rate. lol we usually like 50/50 liquids. I have seen places that sell the vg/pg in 50/50 already mixed so i thought that would be my best bet and then get the nic. It is the mixing part that will screw me all up. Finding the right syringes and stuff. i see all these beakers and that just throws me off. If i could just make a good ry4 and a good froot loops i think i would be good. The other stuff is just for something different when i get home so i dont use up all my ADV so fast. My wife has hoarded so much liquid and she does not vape as much as i do each day. I have at one time put her on hold and she could not order anything else. lol we ran out of room to store her stuff. lol

I make my own juice for a few pennies per ml.

Yeah, I don't use beakers, and doing 50/50 will be super easy. if you use windows, the ejuicemeup calculator is free to dl. and super easy will tell you exactly how much of everything to add. It looks a bit confusing at first, but we have a google hangout that we go to often, usually someone is in there at some point each day, and we can easily talk you through what to enter where on it. here's the hangout link
