Great idea but, if I'm not mistaken (and I very well could be, not unheard of) the cost of a good IR thermometer is close to the cost of a cheaper decent soldering station. Neither of which I have but, both of which I want!
Actually I got the infrared therm on clearance for $10 and use it for other things as well.

I got a response to my email from Rep Rokita re HR2058. Reads like a scripted response.

Not quite the answer we all hope for but better than downright negative response.

Re: MAIL ON H.R.2058 FDA Deeming Authority Clarification Act of 2015

November 2, 2015

Dear Mrs. C.....,

Thank you for contacting me regarding H.R. 2058, the FDA Deeming Authority Clarification Act of 2015. It is good to hear from you.

As you may know, Congress passed the tobacco Control Act2009. For the first time, this law gave the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) broad authority to regulate tobaccothe United States. E-vapor products are not currently subject to the tobacco Control Act and are largely unregulated.

The tobacco Control Act requires premarket authorization for new tobacco products. Traditional tobacco products, such as cigarettes, are considered "new" if they were not being marketed as of February 15, 2007. The proposed FDA rule would apply this same timeline, known as the grandfather date, to any newly deemed product, including e-vapor products. However, because e-vapor products were not widely available before February 15, 2007, this proposed rule would present a significant hurdle for e-vapor products.

On April 25, 2014, the FDA published a proposed rule that would subject cigars, e-vapor products, and other tobacco products to the Tobacco Control Act. If enacted, this rule would require ingredient listing and health warnings for these newly deemed products. Additionally, this rule would prohibit the sale of these products to minors, prohibit vending machine salesfacilities that allow minors to enter, and prohibit the use of modified risk descriptors such as "light", "low", and "mild" for these products.

As you may know, H.R. 2058 was introduced by Representative Tom Cole of Oklahoma on April 28, 2015, and was referred to the House Energy & Commerce Committee. This legislation would change the date for deemed tobacco products from February 15, 2007, to twenty-one months after the enactment of the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act. While I have not reached a final decision on this legislation, please be assured that I will keep your views in mind.

Again, thank you for contacting me and please staytouch as I continue fighting for all people so they can build better lives for themselves and their families.

Sincerely,

Todd Rokita Member of Congress

"... please be assured that I will keep your views in mind." :-x

"... I continue fighting for all people so they can build better lives for themselves and their families." Unless he votes against the bill which means he prefers people to smoke and likely die an ugly death. :grr:

Thank you posting this Mrs. C, it is "nice" see what responses people are getting, if they get any at all.

Please do not purchase this item! I did several years ago and it sux... no, actually it's a POS.

As for soldering guidelines, here is my ECF CONTRIBUTION. TBH, it was the toughest course I took and taught in my USAF career; 13 years of which was as an electronics warfare/countermeasures instructor.

As I stated in dat post, if anyone has questions, suggestions or corrections, please LMK!
I remember reading it the first time and commenting on how good it was. Still is one of the best short articles on soldering I've read.

Thank you, Matt!

It took me many hours in trying to break it down into logical and understandable steps. It has been 're-refined' several times. I really wanted to explain some of da physics involved, dissolve ol' bad habits and encourage folk to try their 'hands'.

Watched an YT quadcopter antenna upgrade vid da other night dat made me cringe. I just want to encourage others try soldering and to follow proper procedures to maximize success and minimize disappointments.

Maybe we could see about making it a sticky somewhere on ECF. Not sure where but there has to be a DIY forum that it would fit in. Would be a shame not to share it and possibly lose it.

So sorry you missed out. Vapor Beast had 2 packs of Efest 1100 mah 18500 batteries for 1.95. All gone. I bought 4 packs.
thanks, but I am wanting some aw imr's and maybe a couple HG2's. Not certain about the 16340's though. got a couple feelers out on those.

You can go back and get the earlier episodes or anything you missed that you think you might like to see, Busardo's buddy Demetri has a show on the network, unless that's what your referring to now.
Jup that is the one. they're supposed to have a Roku Channel, but I never could get it set up. When I get my roku over here, I need to contact them and see what I'm doing wrong, or if they no longer have the channel.

Actually I got the infrared therm on clearance for $10 and use it for other things as well.
kewl! Would have loved to have gotten in on that one. I'm sure there is something that I really need one of these for!

that would be one benefit to having a porch forum, but it would put the front porch in a not so good place I reckin.

I use it in the kitchen too. Check the temp of oil for deep frying and such. Prolly not quite as accurate as an immersion thermometer but works for me. I also use it on hay rollers checking for hot bearings and on trailer wheel bearings and such.
Not really sure how warm a wheel bearing should be but if one is 120 and the other is 300 something is wrong.

To stay on topic, Charlie Brown didn't smoke. Either did any of the Peanuts gang.
we're all guilty of straying off topic at times, and I know it's hard to get used to which porch is which when you're new, but really it would be better to edit this and copy and paste it to move it to the back porch.

Any good movies on vaping?
thanks hun! Actually there is if you have cinemax. I haven't seen it because we don't have that, but Kay was talking about one called the Insider where a man exposes many horrible things in the tobacco industry, and I think she said it goes into vaping some, but not sure, might be just about BT. I'd love to see this.
