Battery problems seem to mostly be from mis-handling or mis-use.

And the term "mod" is pretty loose. Not having read the thread / group you referenced, I'd guess they're talking about unprotected mechanical mods and "sub-ohm" vaping, people wrapping coils that are less than 1 ohm. Without some serious safety precautions, and some diligence, things can happen.

Of course, there are also reports of failed ego styles, but details are often missing.

Protected mods, like all of the ones mentioned here, are generally pretty safe - when handled properly. While some makers say you can put two batteries in series - "stacked" - most of us don't, due to inherent problems with always keeping them matched in voltage.

And it is best for the batteries to take them off charge once full, no matter the type. Although many (most? all?) of us have inadvertently left them on the charger over night, without problems, best not to. Lots of energy stored in them, and if things go south, you want to be able to deal with it.

I use two old ceramic ashtrays, stacked on each other, and put my batteries and chargers in them. So I have about 3 inches of ceramic between any potential fire and the surface.

The replaceable batteries have a similar "life" as the nons, as they use the same basic chemistry, about 250 - 300 recharge cycles. Some of the advantages are
a) generally higher capacity
b) cheaper in the long run than replacing battery and electronics when the battery does eventually cease working
c)bragging rights with your mod :p

The MVP2 uses a non-replaceable battery pack, but still packs in 2600 mAh, and has all the features of the tube mods - VV, VW, ohm check and so on.

But for long term power outages, a large supply of replaceable ones might well be the better decision for you. Of course, you could just sit in the car and plug an inverter into the outlet... :)

Living in a hurricane zone I very quickly though of the possibility of a long term power outage. Rita took out our power for 3 weeks. I am not kidding.

I keep a few ego batterys around with a solar USB charger.
I have several mods that use big batterys and about a dozen batterys.
I also have a USB passsthrough device. She isn't pretty but I can run her in a car if necessary. Might run off the solar panel though I have not tried it.

Living down here in da 'cane zone, I have two generators with a rotated gas supply. That's not counting da three deep cycle boat batts, plus da truck batt. Must have at least a half dozen charging adapter cables, couple of clamp on sets, plus an extra PV batt charger in my truck.

Da last thing I need to worry 'bout during a crisis is dead vaping batts...

Looked into solar a while back and the co$t vs efficiency didn't seem worthwhile. I really could use a reasonable good USB solar unit...

BTW, inverters provide DC to AC power and are quite inefficient; especially if going DC-AC-DC. Why even do dat? Get the appropriate DC-DC adapters.

MissMcVayp,

To start out, the S.I.D. or VAMO V2 are fine PVs/mods at an 'affordable' level. Also grab a good charger and several 18650 batts. You can always 'upgrade(?)' your PV (battery holder) at a later date if you wi$h.

Other than cost, your most challenging aspect will be finding a reliable/minimal fuss/consistent joose device and your fav flavs.

In retrospect, you can get the above combo now for what some folk paid for a standard ol' eGo kit not all that too long ago!

I've been thinking about this, and I think it is something to do with the psychology of change. Change is stressful - even welcome change. And I want, and vaping fills that want, but my psychie is still aware that something is different. My house smells differnet. The other day I came home and my house didn't smell like my house and for a second it was like I walked into the wrong home. It's just kind of thrown my world off, I think. I just took the pack of smokes down from the window sill (awwww.. it still has a lighter tucked into it!). I smelled them, and they don't smell good and I didn't feel a need to smoke one, but they did smell comforting. Like something old and safe one remembers from somewhere else, lol. Anyway, I said hi and bye and I put them back on the window sill :D It's weird but you don't realize how much smoking effected almost every routine you have....

I love it about your husband timing his day by your gust of cold air, lol!

I think you're right about it being the change factor. You had the same habits for a long time and they really did define how you lived so... Now you need to create new habits. And because it's GOOD habits and you're excited about it, it's no wonder you'd panic if your new stuff wasn't in the mailbox where it was supposed to be! But I've never trusted the notice that my orders have arrived so I'm always happily surprised when they're actually in the mailbox. (I too have searched the front porch and garage if they weren't - that never goes away)

While I have car lighter to USB adapters, their quality has always been a bit suspect to me. The inverter I use in my car is good enough that I'm comfortable charging my laptop, or running a charger for anything else. Not too worried about it's efficiency rating when the car's running :)

For those waiting on a Diver 2 report, my diver 2 came in today. I like it.

I set it up with the prebuilt coil that came with it. 50/50 juice. I think the flavor is less muted than a tank with a carto. It really wans't bad to set up at all.

When the NR-R-NR wires come in from fasttech I will recoil it with cotton and see how that goes but honestly even with silica this thing is nice.

I just looked up the VAMO V2 and it IS very pretty... need to do research on safety but have to go to work now (darn, the things one has to do to keep in the $ for vaping, lol lol lol)...
I am expecting a Vamo V5 sometime. Do your research, and you will discover that the only consistent complaint is weak threads. You will need to buy a thread protector, otherwise called a 510 to ego adapter, to prevent failure. Only around $2. If a simple mechanical problem is the only legitimate criticism, the price is right.

As a follow-up to the news article from yesterday the N.B. Lung Association had their say today and the story did not allow comments!

They do have a poll (does not require registering), so I started this thread

in the General Discussion forum.

Please help show that people are interested in this better way of life!

You are limited to one vote per IP address (no need to register) so we need help spreading the word on this poll.

Thanks, especially to Iffy, I know it's a pain to register to add comments. I appreciate your support.

I am thoroughly bummed :-( I called the post office today and after a hold of 40 (yes 40, lol) minutes they confirmed that my e-juice order was delivered to my doorstep on January 8th, and I confirmed that today is the 9th and no, I didn't get it. So it is officially lost. Either the postal worker delivered it to the wrong house (unlikely as my neighbors would have brought it over) or kids took it. It is odd as I have various parcels delivered several times a month and have never had anything taken off my porch. But alas, my first big bottle purchase of my favourite e-liquid is missing somewhere between here and Bumfuk Alaska. The loss of the cost is a pain, but not something that will break the bank. But totally bummed at the loss of my first big bottle of liquid. I will order another (and have to wait another week, lol) but perhaps this tiime I will have them deliver it to work as there will be someone at the front desk to receive it....

Just voted and it's now over 64% for alternative to smoking. Just one more little piece of positive feedback to those who are convinced that vaping is harmful. It's just astonishing that cigarettes, with all their known dangers, are still legal and vaping is looked at as dangerous. Good grief, just look at all the dangers listed on "approved" medications. Hopefully it won't be too much longer before people look back at this controversy and say "that was weird".

Oh no, I'm so sorry your package went missing. It may still show up though. We occasionally get mail for our neighbors, but at least that's easily fixed by walking across the street. Only very rarely have we had a package lost and they've shown up a week or so later. I hope that's the case with you so you're not out the cost of the juice.

Poll taken! Up to almost 68%. :)

Have a question.....after over a month, I'm still having issues 1st thing in the AM. It's the only time I have a cig craving, when I first get up. Sometimes worse than others, like today. It has actually started making me mad. I'm guessing it's from having no nic thru the night, which I can understand, but when will that go away?
When I quit cold turkey years ago, for 6 solid months, all I thought about from the moment I got up until I went to sleep, was wanting a smoke. It's not that way now, just the first few minutes to an hour, having coffee in the morning.
I wondered if anyone else had this issue and did it go away?

Thanks all!

Yep, the ones after meals were hard to give up and the first ones in the morning were the hardest. Personally - I upped the nic for the first hour or so in the morning and vaped through it. Initially it did not make the urge go away, but it did reduce the urge. I even slipped a couple of times and lit a smoke - maybe got through half of it before it was just to terrible to try anymore - now no more urges. For all the urges to go away - maybe a few months, but no strong urges - just fleeting thoughts that quickly dissipated...

You could try a higher nic juice with your coffee in the morning.
Some people swear by having higher nic juice before bed, but nicotine IS a stimulant, and it would keep me awake.

Edit: oh, your actual question...
I personally did not miss my smoking at all and still do not. ;)

Thank you, I do toot a 16 mg with coffee in the morning the urge goes away rather quickly. I have been using zero nic for the last 3-4 hrs at night, because of insomnia. Seems to be helping. :)

The same 16 mg that I've been having with coffee, I was also using after meals for awhile. But not in the last several days, haven't felt the need. I refuse to slip, my health depends on it and I have major health issues. Besides I'm so proud to be over a month cig free now.
It was just one of those mornings, don't know why it was worse today. But I'm fine now and hope it will go away eventually, like needing the higher nic after meals. Now it's 16mg for about the first hour, 4mg throughout the day and zero at night. I'm good with that, but want to get rid of the 16 at some point.

Thanks for your thoughts.
