G'day Yothar. Welcome to the geriatric ward :D . My story is similar. I started vaping after my wife bought a disposable for a long car trip with a grandchild. I was curious and open minded about it and I am still amazed that in less than a month I no longer wanted a cigarette. I'm a toy addict (tools, anyway) and the various devices really got my attention. I was soon DIYing juice and I really like the sense of community here on ECF.

Isn't that the truth. It's been a year for me and am still can hardly believe it.

The year still seems a long way away....but I'm right there with Tiny.....next Wednesday (9/12) will be 6 months for me. I'm one of those that never picked up another cig after cranking up my first ecig. Still hard to believe I'm come this far after smoking for 45 years. Hanging out with all you guys has definitely been a big help!!!!!

I'm 58yo and had smoked for over 40 years.... I thoroughly enjoyed smoking and only started vaping to try and reduce the amount of cigarettes I was going through. The cost of cigarettes and associated medical repercussions were my motivation, so I thought that if I could just replace a few analogs a day with vaping, I may save a few $$$ and breathe a bit easier.

Well it hasn't actually worked out as planned coz after a few days of vaping the anaolgs started tasting awful, and after a week, I just couldn't stand the taste of them!

It's now 32 days since I had a 'nic-stick' and I can't see myself ever wanting tobacco again. The odd thing is, I honestly didn't intend to give up smoking, I just stopped wanting to.... I'm happily puffing away on my Ego-FP as I write this.... I don't smell like an ashtray, I can breathe easily, taste my food again, and am saving around $12 to $15 a day... win, win, win :) . I'm laughing all the way to the bank instead of coughing all the way to the doctor.

My advice to the uninitiated would be, don't start vaping specifically to give up smoking, but to simply reduce the number of cigarettes you smoke; that way there won't be the stress associated with " I have to give up". After a while, you will probably find you prefer vaping and the ciggys will just fade out of your life... if not, then at least your use of them will be reduced, and that's gotta be a plus.

Great success story! Congratulations!!

Welcome Yothar, glad you stopped by and congratulations on your success with vaping. I think you are absolutely correct about not starting to vape specifically to stop smoking. Some people put so much stress on themselves to stop smoking that they defeat themselves and get discouraged. Just go with it and enjoy it and next thing you know you're a non-smoker. Or not. But even if you never totally give up the cigarettes you'll at least have cut down considerably and done yourself a favor.

This thread is mostly for vaping topics, but we also have another thread where we talk about vaping as well as whatever else strikes our interest. Great group of people there too, stop on by to visit anytime a the Older People 55 and Up thread http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/lounge/289745-older-people-55-up-406.html

Another toast to you too Harley - way to go - I'll wager your 1st six days you weren't so sure you'd hit 6 months - but now you have - CONGRATS :toast:

Welcome Yothar - I hope your feel at home here and join us on our journeys. I wasn't so fortunate - I didn't stop smoking when I picked up a PV. But a couple months after I started vapin' I left the stinkies behind.

HarleyDiva, I stopped immediately, too, because my Dr told me I HAD to quit. I drove to the nearest Walgreen and with the first puff I knew I could stop smoking. Only once have I thought about smoking another cig and that was in the midst of a panic attack.

Thanks for the info Mike, I hadn't seen the Atom Bomb before, it looks interesting. I've seen a lot of mixed reviews about the Smoktech rebuildable when it first came out, I assume version 2 is a better device. The Zen and DID looked nice but that's awfully expensive to start with, if I find I can't wind a decent coil that's a ton of money down the drain.

Thanks for posting your work on the Vivi Nova, you gave a lot of good tips that could be applied to other devices. You're posts are always informative.

Most everyone who got a version 1 Smoketech Viva rebuildable has modded it and are happy with them. I have 2 of 'em put haven't even played around with them yet. I'm watching the version 2's to see if they are indeed better, besides the screw on top. The 2 common problems w/ the V1 are very tight tanks to get on/off and that actually pulls the internals apart (not good). Also, it looks like the holes are positioned better on the V2 to easily use SS mesh instead of silica wicks.

edit: The co-op I'm in is closed for new orders but I believe there will be a 2nd run. The design and build is really good and price reasonable. I'll keep you informed if you're interested.
