Thanks Willie for the memories! Those were my times for sure. I always liked Ritchie Valens and it is sad he died so young as many of those entertainers from that era did. He was about a year younger than me so I related real well with him and that time period. I can't wait until my next high school reunion so I can get some more swing dancing in with some ladies that can still cut a rug like the girls in this video. I do have to take it easy with some of them though, last time I spun one and she ended up on the floor. lol

My favorite Valens song is "We Belong Together" .. a simple piece of music, an incredibly moving set of lyrics considering his age when he wrote it .. at a High School prom, a teacher that I was head over heels over at the time, grabbed my hand and pulled me out on the dance floor as the band played "We Belong Together" .. as we made full contact, I had, shall we say, an arousing sensation .. when the song was over, she walked me back to the table, smiled and whispered in my ear, "It's OK, nothing to be embarassed about" .. although we, of course, never had anything else going on, from that point forward, whenever we saw each other, it was with a wink and a smile ..

Thanks for the flashback Willie. I didn't even remember he was just 17 when it happened. The lord musta really like their music too, to call them all home at the same time.

Loved watching the guys in coats & ties and the gals all wearing flats doing the dancing. Truly a different time.

Just so all of you know that may be in the path of the Storm, I am sending as much positive mental energy as I can in your direction .. peace and harmony ..

Thanks Willie - I'm being selfish and hoping it ain't too bad in our area. Janet really looks forward to the ladies week in Stone Harbor, so I'm hoping it's just wind and rain and nothing worse.

Sandy, aka Frankenstorm, is a once in a lifetime event. This combination of conditions have never been recorded in meteorology history. This gal is beyond the '91 'Perfect Storm'!

So, PLEASE, if you're within the projected cone, start prepping right now! Have a plan. If you do not evacuate when locally suggested, then be prepared for an extended power outage and no potable water. If you live on or near the coast, surge is the curse! She will be hanging around for an extended time. So your rivers and lakes will receive copious amounts of rain also.

Just plan for the worst and hope for the best!

ETA: She's a huge gal. So even those adjacent to the cone can/will be affected!

We'll see what happens here in coastal Maine with Sandy. We live in an elevated area, so we'll be okay. It doesn't look like we'll get the worst of it, but we're ready for power outages. We have a extra freezer in the basement, so we bring all the stuff from our upstairs freezer and put it down there. If we don't open it, it stays frozen for up to a week. Water, check. batteries, check. Firewood, check. If we need to, we can cook on the top of our woodstove, so at least I can make my instant coffee.

Forunately, I have enough batteries for vaping to last a looong time.

We're about 35 miles NW of Phila and today I heard the mayor of Phila break into a TV program to tell people to get ready and anyone living in an area that floods should be out by Sunday at 2:00 p.m. They're looking into shelters just in case. We're on higher ground here so I don't think we'll have a water problem although our elec. could go out. Fortunately we don't have trees near the house. We'll be sure to have our candles ready, our batteries charged and wood ready for the fireplace. Oh yes, and we've got a gas camp stove to make our coffee on so we're in good shape. My thoughts are going out to those who are not in good shape. I just hope they take heed because we've had plenty of warning.

Some of the News outlets in my area are dubbing it the "Perfect Storm" .. which made me think of the George Clooney movie of the same name .. of course, no one knows quite yet just how things will shape up, but the storm depicted in that film was pretty tough ..

At any rate, it's making the news here in the fly over zone ..

I know you guys will be fine .. with the camping skills and what not, you could probably be dropped in the middle of the Sahara and make do .. 8-o

Thanks for the well wishes and confidence in us - but we might have to rough it in the Sahara.

Well, whether you feel you are prepared or not - be safe. We want to keep ya'll around for a while longer you hear...

Well, if we do loose power you won't be hearing from us until we do. We'll post as soon as we can. We're good campers so I'm sure we'll be fine Sounds like the people along the NY coastal areas are going to be in for a hard time. I hope they head somewhere safe. It infuriates me when people are warned well ahead of time and choose to stay and then others risk their lives to go in and help them. We've often looked at homes along waterways and thought how nice it would be to live there, but storms usually lead to flooding and you gotta figure it's going to happen sooner or later and we just don't want to deal with that. Anyway, we're praying that this storm doesn't develop to the extent that they're calling for. It looks like such a HUGE area to get hit. I'd love it if this turned out to be a lot of hype. Who knows what nature is going to decide to do.
