My FIOS has a battery backup, but I've no idea how long it lasts or if it powers just the tele or the tele & internet.

Mike, I also have FIOS and was told that the UPS was for phone only. Ya could pretest it by pulling the power cord... double dog dare ya!

OK, that caught my eye, taste buds and envy! My bride of 43 years is hyper hyper (yes, no mistype there) allergic to any peanut product!

I actually lived on boiled peanuts for two days down in da Keys during lobster season once, intentionally!

Welcome to our lil' corner of da world! Since ya already have two grown kids, several dozen over grown kids should be right up your alley...

Awww, that's a shame about your wife's allergy to peanuts. I can do some serious damage to a bag of boiled peanuts!

Lobster, yum!!

I'm a grown kid at heart, too, lol.

My father's father was not a good man or a nice one, but one thing he did that worked for my father is that his dad took him out in a boat on the Delaware river in Philadelphia. Dad had to be under 7 years old. When they got to the middle he tipped the boat and told my father sink or swim and left him out there. Fortunately Dad learned to swim well enough to get to shore and when he was older people tried to get him to the Olympics because he was such a good swimmer. Back then there was no money so he never got to go, but also his Dad was long gone by then. I don't know if Dad was ever afraid of water before that incident, but there weren't pools around then so the River was where you had to go if you wanted to get wet. Dad won bets on being able to actually swim across that river so you can imagine how wide it was. Can you imagine someone doing that to a kid these days?

Hi Janet!

Yeah, these days that would be child abuse, but our parents were brought up way different than we were.

No, don't be quiet! It's fun and interesting hearing from all people. I also think we all learn something from one another. You never know what little tip you might have that can help someone else and getting to know each other is great!

Good morning Semi and Fran, just getting ready to go to bed myself  gotta try and catch a few hours before my little grandson gets up. Went upstairs yesterday evening to find a full set of drums in the middle of the living room

LOL, so that's the joys of grandchildren? I don't have any yet, sure hope I do one day!

I try and maintain a personal policy of no Internet on Sundays, however, today I decided to break that rule and check in ..

A very warm welcome to the best thread on ECF .. or anywhere else for that matter .. we are always, always happy to have a new joiner and I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say "Stick around" ..

Thank you, UW! I do believe this is the best thread on ECF. :)

Welcome, welcome and welcome .. and I'm sure you have plenty to say and we'd like to read it .. you'll find, I think anyway, enough info on many of us that we have gotten to know each other as much as we would have face to face ..

That is an absolute fact. I know more about ya'll than I know about my neighbor next door for the last 12 years...

You know, when I wrote that post, my hand hovered over the mouse and almost deleted it .. however, sometimes something can trigger a memory that is bittersweet and so I just let it fly, as I tend to do ..

Question for the day .. some say smell is the most powerful sense .. when I smell yeast rolls baking, it takes me back to my Grandmas kitchen when I was a kid .. her and my Grandad were self sufficient folk, having gone thru the Depression .. always had a garden and when he hunted, it was for fresh meat to put on the table .. my Grandad was a WW I vet and built their last house himself at the age of 60 ..

I'd like to see some posts on what brings up an old, good memory ...

Willie, if you like the smell of yeast rolls, then you would love my wife's area in the Philippines. There is a bakery about a block away and you can start smelling the bread making around 4:30 am until about 8am. And you can buy fresh rolls right out of the oven for about a nickel... They come in a variety of sizes. The smallest ones are about the size of an egg and of course they go up to very large loaves. My favorite ones are about the size of your fist. They generally pick me some up every morning while we are there to go with the morning coffee... Love the smell and the taste of fresh rolls...

So, I just joined ECF last Thursday (I think) and after reading here the past few days, I've learned more from reading here, than I have in the last 9 months of since getting my PV. What a great place! I didn't understand cartomizers or how they worked, drip tips - didn't have a clue and I had no idea there were so many different juices out there. I'm going to need a part time job for this new hobby.

Oh my, yep, smell is a trigger

Doughnuts - my grandmom, she baked the bestest glazed and jelly doughnuts I've ever had. Brings back 3 Kings Day when you'd bight into one of her jelly doughnuts and find a penny of dime buried in it.

A tomato plant - my dad, he loved working his garden. Would save the seeds from his current crop and use them to start next years garden

Old canvas - camping in the woods as a kid. Can't smell old canvas w/o thinking about that.

Interesting and fun idea!

Lots of food aromas remind me of my Mom, she was/is a great cook. Pound cake is her specialty and her's is fantastic, just ask her, she'll tell you.

Sunday afternoon football and MLB games always remind me of my Dad, especially MLB - he loved the Atlanta Braves. Cigarette smoke is another reminder of my Dad, he smoked unfiltered Camels as far back as I can remember. Sadly, he passed away from lung cancer 6 years ago, RIP, Daddy. Oh, and freshly mowed grass! My Dad was a fanatic when it came to his and Mom's yard. When I smell freshly cut grass, it takes me back to Saturday mornings and Daddy with that darn lawn mower at 7:30ish a.m. He always managed to cut beneath our (us kids) bedroom windows first.

I'm sure I will think of more later, but these are what hit me first.
