Good Morning Fran.

Yiddle, I cannot figure out how you pull all nighters. It has been years since I could do it. 4 hours sleep used to be all I needed each day, but now I need at least 6 and I prefer 7. Cannot sleep over 8 yet - my body refuses to stay in bed much past 7 hours...
LOL I don't really pull all nighters...............I just happen to be nocturnal. Been that way all my life.. Hate going to bed at night and have a terrible time being up in mornings. Just my body clock and why I always worked night shifts :D
Uh Oh. Who had that wonderful idea? Maybe you need some good earplugs? When my son was little my father-in-law gave him a drum and a whole bunch of drum sticks for Christmas. As we packed up to leave I announced that we were leaving the drum and sticks at Grandpop's house so he'd have something to play with when we came to visit. HA!! They do have drum sets where you wear headphones so you don't drive people nuts while learning.
This was a full set of pro drums  Don't know what my daughter was thinking :) but they've been moved to the attic and I'm in the basement, so all's well
And that's the truth! So far today it's been Kanger T-3's, drum sets and sleep cycles!! What's next?

Trying to decide if I want to order a couple of those T3s to try or just get another splitfire. Really loving those.

{{{Willie}}} so happy to see you here today.

We're all ready for the impending storm. Stocked up on water, lots of soup, candles, batteries all charged or charging. Should still be able to heat soups as the stove is natural gas. We're on high ground, so should be safe from any flooding. More worried about damage that could be caused by some of the big old trees around here. Really, really hate the idea of losing my internet for any length of time.

Welcome Gordon. I don't post often either, but read this thread almost every day. Good conversation to listen in on, and to occasionally join.

The strongest smell trigger that I can think of was when we used to drive through the Eisenhower Tunnel under the continental divide in Colo. It wasn't exactly a pleasant memory that it elicited, but it was strong. It took me right back to my time aboard the USS Iwo Jima in 1967-68. If I went through the tunnel with my windows open the memory of the hanger deck shot straight to my memory bank. I was in the tunnel just a couple of years ago, and that memory from 44 years ago shot right back into my brain. Strange, isn't it.

I'm sorry it didn't trigger a more pleasant memory for you, but it's admirable that you were serving our country. My hat is off to you.

I've been watching football all day. Wow what a game between Cowboys and Giants, talk about a game of inches.
I sure wish all of you in the NE good luck with the storm blowing in! Keep us posted if you can.

Welcome to the thread Greenmint!

A storm blew in big time this afternoon in Philly, not Sandy! Atlanta blew our our Eagles big time today.

Mike, I also have FIOS and was told that the UPS was for phone only. Ya could pretest it by pulling the power cord... double dog dare ya!

ah ha - I don't have to pull the plug. Verizon sent me this:

Dear Valued Verizon Customer,

In the event of extreme weather conditions associated with Hurricane Sandy, impacted areas could experience power outages which may affect your Verizon services.

If you have fiber-based voice service or FiOS® Digital Voice, the Battery Backup Unit (BBU) installed with your service supplies up to eight (8) hours of phone service. Please note that your FiOS® TV and/or Internet service will not be available until your power is restored.

What the hell .. while I'm here, I may as well post something

Good choice Willie. This reminds me of the storm we lived through when we were on vacation in the Outer Banks one year. Just tripe time the video and you'd have an idea of the lightning we saw. It was strobing! People there said it wasn't unusual for that area. Good grief.

The main reason I decided to check in was, prior to hitting the yard leaves today, I am in front of the Weather Channel getting a Sandy update .. I see Bloomburg / Cuomo and others issuing mandantory evacs ..

In a worst case scenario, how might this effect the Election .. ?? any past history on something like this .. ??

We're about as ready as we can be. Everything outside is put away or tied down. Looks like we abandoned the place! I've got laundry and food shopping done. Today I made a HUGE batch of chicken nuggets that we can eat if we don't have power. Supplies are all set and batteries are charged. I'm sure the Perkiomen Creek about a mile from us will overflow, but we're uphill from there. I've checked in with friends. Earlier I'd heard they've closed down the DC. metro, Amtrak and NY City transit. Hope everybody there has already gotten where they need to be because they're not going to get there tomorrow.

Heard somebody on TV asking about how this will effect elections and nobody knew the answer to that It's early voting that would be effected this week. (Don't know why they need that more than a week out anyway) I just hope power problems would be fixed by 11/6 so the machines work - well, work as well as they're suppsosed to. Wouldn't you think that after all this time and the awful problems experienced with the machines that they'd have that worked out by now? Sheesh.

Hi Janet!

Yeah, these days that would be child abuse, but our parents were brought up way different than we were.

Well, in my father's case it really was child abuse. He was the youngest of 9 and I think his dad didn't want another mouth to feed. He really wasn't a very nice person. And my Dad was such a gentle soul! My parents raised me to be responsible - you made your bed...
I wasn't shielded from anything, but my Dad was always there with a genuine hug. Don't know how kids today will be able to handle being adults when they're protected from every disappointment or hardship. They grow up with no idea how to figure anything out.

Memory smells?

Fresh cut grass - we had a large yard where Dad created a baseball diamond with a backstop. He played semi-pro ball as a pitcher when he was young and that was our favorite pass time. Dad was a great teacher.

Chicken soup or spaghetti cooking - reminds me of how much I loved walking into the kitchen when Mom was making dinner. Even as a kid I SO appreciated coming in to see what was for dinner.

The aftershave Canoe reminds me very strongly of someone in my past that I REALLY didn't like.

The smell of a baby - reminds me of my own.

Janet, you're a mind reader, I was just sitting here thinking and baby powder popped into my head as a smell strongly attached to memories! Wow, a real strong stimulator, I am transported back in time!

This is an odd one. The other night a skunk sprayed around here and it reminded me strongly of summers as a child.

Driving by the marina where the boats were covered in mildewed canvas brought back strong memories of camping and revelling in nature!

Low tide, dried seaweed= summers at the beach! Happy, happy memories!!! Where did all that time go?
