I have read several posts about all nighters, and I think an all nighter for older folks, is when they sleep all night without getting up to pee.

It's raining pretty good here, about 30 mi NW of Philadelphia. Mike and I were just watching 2 young deer chasing each other around our back yard (about 2 acres) They're having fun in the rain just like a couple of kids. Mama is just standing there watching. The birds are hitting the feeders pretty good. What happens to the birds in a hurricane?

Well, in my father's case it really was child abuse. He was the youngest of 9 and I think his dad didn't want another mouth to feed. He really wasn't a very nice person. And my Dad was such a gentle soul! My parents raised me to be responsible - you made your bed...
I wasn't shielded from anything, but my Dad was always there with a genuine hug. Don't know how kids today will be able to handle being adults when they're protected from every disappointment or hardship. They grow up with no idea how to figure anything out.

Good morning, Janet and everyone to follow!

Janet, that was really hard to read and brought tears to my eyes.

I wasn't shielded from anything either and I didn't shield my children. Thank goodness I have 2 responsible, adult kids who face what is presented to them in life and deal with it.

Hope everyone in Sandy's path is safe and sound today!

Good Morning Folks.

A while back I was telling y'all about the Ego VV that Kico sent me. Again, thank you so much. Well, I like it soooooo much that I placed an order for 3 more Saturday morning. USPS tells me they are out for delivery today Yea !!!!!!!!! I ended up getting them from Apollo. With their 10% of fall sale and free shipping they were just a bit over 65.00 for 3 of them. I thought that was a very good price.

Hubby will be going on his fall hike this week. Hopefully 2 of these and his 1000mAh battery will last him the 3 days he will be gone.

Prayers going up that all that in the path of this storm will be safe.

The theory that our childhood determines who we are does not always hold water ..

The problem with the last generation or two is they are told constantly by parents that they are somehow special .. and I'm sure they are, to the parents .. however, when they get older, they tend to still believe they are special .. which makes them feel somehow entitled .. now, don't get me wrong, all people are special in their own ways .. but without learning to deal with adversity and the curve balls life will throw at you, you cannot grow ..

Glad you like the ego VV. I have a Spinner and it works really well.

I considered the spinner but decided to stick to one I knew worked well for me. I like the push button option for changing voltage.

They are here and hubby is already using one. :D

I think you're absolutely right. Plenty of people have had horrid childhoods and grew up to be wonderful adults. Makes me mad when people blame their lot in life on their childhood. At some point everybody starts making their own decisions. Whenever people tell me that we did such a good job raising our children I always tell them we can only take 1/2 credit. We tried to lay a good foundation and then the credit for the decisions they make on their own, good or bad, goes to them. We're really proud that they've made good ones. It seems to me that people have forgotten that they're supposed to raise children to be responsible adults.

I understand exactly what you mean. Lots of folks feel they are entitled, and they don't know the difference between what they need or want.

I took a different take on the "special" aspect with my kids. I told them all they were special, just like everybody else. Of course, we tried to bring out their unique talents and gifts, and let them know they were individuals. They were taught to pave their own way in this world. We taught them how to be fishermen, instead of giving them fish, as the saying goes. Not to say, we didn't provide what they needed growing up. None of them are rocket scientists, but they are good people, and they care about others, so I guess they are special.

Absolutely. Everybody has something special and good about them. I wish more people would spend their time looking for it instead of looking for the bad stuff.
