Oh, I would had to of saved some of the black walnut wood for projects... Back when me and my wife first got married I had almost an entire wood shop. I used to take old pallets and make things as a hobby and then sell them. Back 20 or so years ago you could find pallets made out of oak, mahogany, etc. It made some great end tables and such. I also used to make molding on my router (6 ft pieces from the larger pallets). Mahogany molding sold real well. Nowadays pallets are most made out of disposable wood so it is not as lucrative as it used to be, but I have thought about playing with them some and see what I can come up with... Just do not have all the tools I used to have so my choices would be more limited...

Ain't that the truth about the 'old pallet' wood. My friend worked at a place where we could get pallets. If shipments came in from South America, we could score some exotic hardwoods from those pallets.

In 2006, a very strong windstorm rolled thru my area .. it toppled many, many old oaks, walnuts etc .. I wanted so bad to salvage / dry and mill some of the trunks that ultimately ended up at a landfill but I did not have the facility and things were in such a mess that it was impossible to pull together some help to get it done .. many thousands of dollars of wood went down the drain ..

My pallet story : any of you guitarists will appreciate this .. one of the common debates among players is "tone wood" and how various woods effect the sound of an electric guitar .. I have always been on the side that says style / strings / pickups / amp / scale / etc have much more effect than wood and it's really almost impossible to detect one wood from another in a blind test .. at any rate, I decided to make a guitar out of pallet wood .. I laminated enough of it together to make a body, cut and carved it into a popular style and built it into a guitar using the same electronics and which looked and felt just like a $2000 famous maker unit I had on the wall of the shop .. I then placed duct tape over the headstock of both units so any logo would be covered ..

As the wood debate came up, I would hand each unit to the player and run each one thru the same amp with the same settings and ask them to pick the one they felt sounded the best .. the pallet wood guitar won 90% of the time ..

These days, pallets I see are junk .. I decided I was going to cover my shop floor with pallet wood last year .. so I started gathering free pallets from various places .. As I began breaking them down, the wood splits and breakage got so frustrating I eventually gave up ..

(((((y'all)))))) borrowing SIL's puter, still trying to figure out how to get mine in touch with her wireless net connection and the company has been no help at all. Might have to buy a router, not sure. Miss everyone and hope y'all are doing great.

I wondered where you were Deb! I hope you get it up and running. Computers can be a pain sometimes but I would be awfully bored without one.

It just came to mind this morning Semi. But when we took that big old black walnut down, I did contact a couple saw mills. Since it didn't come from a 'forest' they didn't trust that there wasn't any imbedded metal in it. They wouldn't take the chance of damaging their saw blades.

Good evening, y'all! RL has gotten in my way, I just hate when that happens. :D Anyway, I received my cartomizers yesterday and boyhowdy, what a difference! I can actually taste the liquid I'm using and I'm not having to get up every few minutes and drip into a cartridge. I'm a happy vaping camper now.

Hope everyone is doing well. I'm watching coverage of the devastation of Sandy right now on HLN, I feel so horribly for all the people. I can't wrap my brain around what they're going through. NYC is just a mess, it breaks my heart. I can't do anything to help, but I can pray. I'm not overly religious, but I do believe in the power of prayer.

No football games on tonight, so I'm totally bored. I will find something to do, though. A glass of chardonnay will get my creative juices flowing, lol. If nothing else, I'll turn some music on and make a couple of potholders, busy hands are happy hands, so they say.

I like your attitude Greenmint. My wife's away for a long weekend. Actually one of the south Jersey shore towns that wasn't hit nearly as bad as the northern coast. Anyway, I've got to figure out how to work the dishwasher. That or do it the old fashioned way - by hand.

That is the one thing that I do miss from my corporate life days - traveling. I used to spend a few nights a month on the road. I always brought back my family something from the cities I visited. It was fun trying new restaurants or traveling around to learn about the folks in a different area. Me and my wife travel some, but it is not the same. Now I do not miss the staying up till after midnight on my laptop documenting the day and planning the next...

That guitar story would be worth writing a review on... The only good pallets you can find now adays is some of the military pallets that are still made, but they reuse them until they are worn out now - reducing the waste of them stopped years ago...

Here they would run a metal detector over it... If you remember that pic I posted a while back the oak that they pulled off of my house a few years back was hauled off by a furniture company...

Last night, I watched the Benefit Show on MSNBC and the images of the destruction and the folks effected were incredibly sad .. although I am not a rich person, I was compelled to donate what I could ..

The show itself was pretty good .. other than Steve Tyler .. Springsteen / Christina Aquilera / Bon Jovi / Sting / Billy Joel / Mary J Blige /

Well, shoot, I didn't know it was on or I would have watched, too.

Steven Tyler is his own biggest fan. Real men don't wear black nail polish. :D

BTW, I really enjoyed your guitar story, very interesting!

Hope everyone has had a great day and we turn our clocks back! I do feel bad for the kiddos, though, that takes away a good hour of outside time.

A lady I work with brought a container of homemade soup for me today. What a treat to come home, get comfy and have a meal ready for me. It was good, too! She put all kinds of goodies in that soup, all kinds of veggies and beef and ham, mmm, mmm, good!

AL vs. LSU tonight, should be a good game. I've got my wine chilling, PV is ready to go, I'll be a happy girl! Wish my son was here to watch with me, but he's out with his friends, as he should be. I'll save all my football questions for him for tomorrow, lucky guy! :D

Super Dave, I LOVE your good morning graphics - so cheerful!
