I think you are right about that UW. TV and then the internet just spread the word faster than telegraph used too.

Plus, years ago people didn't even talk too much to each other about nasty things. Part of the reason I've had so much trouble finding out anything about my father's father is that the family would never talk about him. One day he disappeared and the family refused to speak of him after that. Now people would have tweeted the news 2 seconds after he was gone and news alerts would be flashed on the local TV stations with 3 days of speculation as to why.

One of the main things I learned is there is no such thing as justice and if something like this can happen to us, it can happen to anyone. We stay in our own little spot in the world and try not to bother anyone in any way yet it still came to us. We now keep all doors locked day and night when we are inside and have cameras all around the house. We refuse to be victims again.

That is really sad, but it's better to be safe.

Please don't get me wrong. We don't live in fear but are just extra careful. Thankfully we have wonderful neighbors too. We are the oldest couple in our very small community and they now watch like hawks too. This brought us all even closer together. Just shows that good things can come from bad experiences. We truly are blessed. Thank you for caring.

Oh no, looks like I killed the thread with my woe's. I am sorry about that.

On a much brighter note. The sun is shining. It's a bit cool outside but I'm inside where it is nice and toasty.

I hope all of y'all that are up in the NE are doing well.

Gotta run in to town today to pick up a few things but will check in later.

Naw mattiem you didn't at all. Everyone is just hungover from all the politics I think! A little dreary here today and might have some snow this weekend. I guess it is time to put my studded tires on for the season. I was planning on doing laundry today but I think I'll just go buy more socks. lol I should buy a washer and dryer so I could do it at home but I might be moving back to my daughter's in the spring and I don't have room for one in my little bungelow I live in there. It is pretty nice and she had it built for me but much smaller than the house I'm renting.:tumble:

I just heard a very thought provoking statement - last nite, Santa Claus won over morals & hard work. Sorry folks, but this is a very sad day for me as I weep for our beautiful country. Oh well....I'm going to put on my June Cleaver pearls & go purchase some self defense goodies. MAY GOD BLESS AMERICA!!

I think Ronald Reagan was probably the most blatant definition of what a politician means to me...an actor with credits and money to back them. Honestly, I don't trust any of them on a level deeper than what they proclaim to the public eye, a popularity contest. One man and his cronies can certainly color our world, but they cannot change the core of us, the US! We, the United States of America US, we, collectively, us. This is still a democracy...of the people, by the people and all that...and we are the people...312 million of us. I may be totally naive about politics, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that there are a lot more indians than there are chiefs. Having said that, I think we have buried our heads in the sand for a lot longer than the last presidential term as government has slowly usurped our rights and implemented it's hidden agenda. As I see it, the president is the talking head in a chain of command, he really doesn't have the direct authority to impose anything by himself, whoever is in office will eventually decorate a coin and get a blurb in a history book...good bad or indifferent. This country isn't perfect, but it's ours. I wouldn't live anywhere else.

Howdy do, my friends!! Well, I woke this morning to a blanket of snow covering the ground. The sky is gloomy and gray. However, I have a blazing fire in the woodstove, and I am toasty warm. It makes me think of those who are not warm, living on the streets or dealing with the loss of their homes. That makes me sad, and, at the same time, makes me feel so blessed.

It seems a perfect day for baking something yummy. I have a steaming hot pumpkin bread in the kitchen, just out of the oven. For fun, I added raisins, dried cranberries, and walnuts. I think Hubby will be happy to have some with a nice hot cup of coffee when he gets home from delivering today's mail...

I convinced my 83 yr old mom to switch primary care doctors. I go to all of her appointments with her, and the doc she has had doesn't seem to be very proactive in helping her with some of her problems. He actually looks at me and rolls his eyes when Mom isn't looking. There is no excuse for that. My mom is not mean or cantankerous, she's sweet and docile, too docile sometimes. But she does complain a lot about numerous minor health problems that, when added together, cause her a great deal of discomfort, and she cries a lot because no one is helping her. So, I have an appointment for her tomorrow morning with my doc, hope it goes well and she can get some well deserved attention.

Thanks, Moishe. It's trying at times being an only child. But my mom is one of the greatest blessings in my life. She took care of me for a long time. Now it's time for me to make sure she has her needs met.

Jewels....My best wishes to your mom - she's lucky she has you looking out for her; been there myself. Stay strong & take care of yourself - she needs you.

Jewels....I moved back here years ago because my folks were getting up in age. There was a totally useless brother here but I won't even go there. I only had my dad for 3 years after the move so I guess you could say I was also the only one or the only child. There was Parkinsons followed by dementia, not even mentioning several trips to emergency & surgery in between. It was rough, putting it mildly - but you know what, I'd take it all back & go thru it again just to see her smile once more. Please, just take care of yourself....I know what you're going thru & it's sooo hard & heartbreaking sad. You & your Mom will be in my thoughts.......

It doesn't feel like it's anything extraordinary. I feel it just the way life should go. I pray that my children will feel the same way about Hubby and I when we need help tending to daily needs.

I think the Lord for daughters like you! My little sister took care of my mom until she passed away in the Spring but I'm forever greatful to my sister for that.

Thanks Tx. You are probably right. All the political stuff is enough to bum anyone out. I am glad that it is over with for a while.
Maybe you could get a small stack-able washer/dryer combo. Kinda like the ones that come in motor homes or then again, you're right, you could just buy more socks. :D

Oh my, our 'family' seems to be in a slight funk, self included.

As for a bit of my POV, just check out my POST #5406!

The aging and nurturing aspect is ever so personal and hardly ever pleasant in the end. But the rewards are so beyond description. I think it a common issue that regardless what we do for our parents/loved ones, we still feel some guilt wondering if we could have done more!

I also think that the saddest thing in life is a 'passing' without loved ones around! As difficult as it was, I was there for my Mom and Dad as they made their 'crossing'. But at least their last conscience moment was with those they loved!

OK, 'nuff of that! Iffy, the meteorologist, forecasts a bright, sunny and fulfilling tomorrow... regardless of da weather!!!

My pop was hospitalized for his last days. I was leaving work early to go visit him and my Mom called and said I shouldn't come because he's in an 'angry' mood and doesn't want to see anyone, it would be better if you didn't come. I respected her and tried to 'go back to work'. After awhile I thought, I'm going anyway. By the time I got to the hospital he had passed. That's the only time I regret listening to my Mother's advice.
