When I was about 13, I begged for a guitar, and my folks gave me an acoustic that I think probably came from Woolworths (I bet that's a store name you've not heard lately) .. the strings were so high off the fretboard (action) .. that it was painful to try and play anything .. in the first week, I shredded my fingertips, being a dumb kid and figuring that's just the way it was .. I had a copy of Mel Bay's book as well (sidenote : Mel Bay would have been 100 this year .. read about him here : Mel Bay Blog » Blog Archive » 100th Anniversary of Mel Bay’s Birth )

At any rate, the fingers eventually healed and I stuck with it .. these days, I tend to rely on special tunings since my arthritus makes it difficult ..

If I seem particularly jovial today (I.E. the dog socks commentary) .. I'm trying to lighten my mood as I have a $20,000 Gibson on the workbench that's giving me fits and stressing me out .. I should never have taken the work on this one ..

I tried to learn to play on our Yamaha and decided I didn't want to put up with the calluses and dishwater at the same time. I don't know how women do it. Nobody told me if you wanted to play you had to work at getting those things. I'm not very musical anyway, but our musician friend lived with us for a time and we never saw him without his guitar in his hands. I think he slept with it too.

Maybe you need a break from the Gibson for a bit. Walk away, do something relaxing and maybe it will come together for you. Just think how good you'll feel when it's done.

I will probably make the doggie socks myself. I also have a background in seamstress work, and I can crochet, too.

Well there you go! She'll be the best bootied dog in the neighborhood (which in your case covers a lot of distance!) I'll bet you can find the non skid stuff to apply to the bottom so you won't have the problem of them twisting around and being slippery. And you can make them any color you want! Although I think some pretty little jewels would look adorable, you wouldn't want her to eat any of them so they might not be a good idea, but jeweled stitching might look stunning. Ha! Look at this, we're dressing your dog already and you don't even have it yet!!

Somehow I don't think this is what you had in mind though.

My Mother made some for my dog once. Do not forget the non skid bottoms for the feet - have you ever seen a dog with no brakes - much less one that has four paws and each wants to go in a different direction every time they try to run on the hard wood floors (sure wish I had a video camera back then)...

I already have the nonskid stuff. I do agree that it's important. I have a basket in the kitchen, and every family member has a pair of crocheted slippers with nonskid bottoms. The doggie socks are purely for function. I don't see any jewels in her future...:)

Oh, Please, that's just too much! Some might be okay with that, but I really don't want to dress my dog that way. Although she may have a jeweled collar. I plan on making her collar and leash from the HUGE stash of craft stuff I have.
