Makes me a little paranoid.![]()
Nah....no worry here. Since I show up approx. 30 miles away, the drones can go THERE to find me.
Makes me a little paranoid.![]()
Thanks, Yiddle. I realize what I need to do, but it doesn't seem to work, and I'm not blaming the mod...I'm sure it's probably me. I fight with manual batts all the time, clicking like a mad woman before I even get them turned on.![]()

Your 5 clicks have to be done in 2 seconds......![]()
I try, Moishe, I try.![]()

Think spring...

My stress is self created .. when she brought the unit in, I told her I was 90% sure I could repair and the work would be virtually invisible .. it's very rare for me to be wrong on things like this, but in this case I called it wrong .. the customer can easliy afford the cost, the problem is insisting it stay all original .. a neck from another unit changes the serial number Gibson places on the back of the headstock so this is a fairly major issue for purists .. combined with it being a family heirloom .. you'd be surprised how emotional folks get over this kind of thing .. it's no different than car collectors and matching serial numbers / bike enthusiasts / etc ..
Did an Arlo Guthrie .. ??
I've got a 1956 LP Custom Black Beauty on the bench that my customer snapped the headstock right at the nut off .. these models are notorious for that area being weak .. the break is very jagged .. she insists that the unit must stay all original and wants the break repaired .. lining up the two pieces perfectly has proved to be very very difficult on this one and I'm afraid that even if successful, the area will still not be structurally sound .. there is a fretboard separation as well ..
So, I have sourced a 1956 model that has a trashed body and I am meeting with my customer today to discuss buying that one and removing the neck / installing it on her unit .. problem is, the price of the trashed body unit is $9000 .. plus my labor to swap the necks / re-set up / touchup finish work .. etc .. the guitar is a family heirloom ..
Willie - I am not more sure of who I feel more sorry for - you for the stress, your customer for the cost factor or the guitar...
not fair, Mike !!!!!! such a beautiful scene and yet out the window here is, snow-broken branches all over for me to clean up-grey day.
But at least I have a nice pot roast simmering to make the house smell good-LOL !!!
put it on my desktop-NICE- thank you !!!!!!
MMMMMmmmmmmmm, doesn't that look inviting?! Wish I was right there ... sitting on that little bridge, barefoot, wearing cut-offs, pv in hand with fave juice, and a big hot cup of coffee. Heaven!! I may need to swipe this pic as a desktop, it's so lovely.
All of you in the blizzard's path, please stay safe!

omg-Willie, I bet that is stressing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And just about impossible to actually make it like origonal.
Sounds like someone got p.o.ed and used it on someone, for that much damage. How you can actually mend it to not show--ugh-real problem there !!! Bless you for trying.
On the Arlo guthrie thing-nope, hitch hiking was a means to try getting out of the cage ( extreme Agoraphobia). facing the fear problem--it does work for a year or so, too.
The post office just called and told Hubby that there will be no mail delivery tomorrow, and our local post offices will be closed. So, if you are in the storm/blizzard zone, you may not get your vape mail tomorrow.
Actually, I've noticed that all 3 of my heads can be very temperamental when it comes to a change of mode. I just keep them all on the low setting anyways so it really doesn't matter. Good finger exercise tho - 5 clicks in 2 seconds...does that count as my daily workout?![]()
Works for me.![]()

I've been at this for better than 35 years now .. the repair is fairly routine .. this is an exceptional case due to the nature of the jagged wood ends .. in a normal case, you align the two pieces using a jig I made years ago, then dry fit until you get an exact lineup of the two pieces .. then using hide glue, tighten the clamp .. in some cases, the crack line will almost fully disappear once you get the clamp tight .. then, once it's dried, filling any remaining missing wood bits / finish sanding / mixing up a matching finish / paint / and using an airbrush to blend .. voila .. I can make it look like it was never repaired .. in this case, I just can't get the lineup right .. it's been 15 years since I have had this problem ..
A Les Paul .. or Lester, as we like to call them, has one huge weakness .. if it is dropped from the rear .. IOW, the back facing the floor .. the angle of the headstock hits the floor first and the full weight of the guitar plus gravity plus string tension hits on the end of the headstock .. in many cases, snapping it off ..
Did you see that the gov of Mass just ordered no cars or trucks (except those that are exempted by him) are going to be allowed. Penalty either fine or jail or both. Gee....I guess we've never seen snow before. Can anyone say 'NANY STATE'?
Yes, I saw that as well.
Do you remember walking to school backwards when the snow was up to your neck, maybe even eyeballs, the wind was blowing 300mph, & they never had snow-days? No school buses where I lived. How did we survive?

And with an unusually strenuous work-out of personal will-power, I refrained. It wasn't easy.
