On another note: Bluesman, what breed(s) of herding dogs do you have? I'm down to just one now (an elderly 60 lb Australian Cattle Dog who's an old sweetheart); but I do love herding dogs.
Penny
Penny, there are 3 Australian Shepherds, 1 Border Collie, and 1 Border Collie/German Shepherd (her name is Penny, by the way) in residence at the shelter/farm/ranch.
The Border Collie/German Shepherd (who I will refer to as Penny, so don't get confused) is new. She was labeled an "uncontrollable biter" by the shelters, vets, and "dog people" who had her previously. Penny was given a death sentence (euthenasia) so we stepped in and took her. She has been nothing but pleasant and happy since we brought her here. She looks more like a GS than a BC, but she has all the instincts of a BC. Penny took to herding like a fish takes to water. She gets a big smile on her face with real bright eyes when she's working.
The others are outcasts as well. Aussies often end up homeless because they can be pesty if not given something to do, and they are far more "smarter" than humans. They are aware of everything and see everything.
Herding dogs are unique. I understand your love of them and commend you on that. Dogs are loyal and faithful as it is, but herding dogs take it to a whole new level. You probably have the best friend there is.
