We have a new charger, USB to wall, looks like good quality, trusted supplier. We have 2 manual batteries from a different supplier, 1 charged just fine over night, next day we plugged in the other and left to charge and the battery exploded leaving just the tube connected to the charger and catching wall on fire/melting trash can that sort of thing. We are trying to decide was the battery or charger most likely at fault? Does anyone have enough knowledge of how these things work on a technical level to help figure that out? The charger is specified to be for the Kr808's and that is what we plugged into it. Any ideas? And is the black crud that went everywhere toxic? We are trying to get it cleaned up.

BTW, the title should say "my KR808" not "mt KR808" that was a typo

ALLLL WORKED OUT NOW< HAD AN ELECTRICIAN LOOK THINGS OVER!

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. In a case like yours it is really hard to tell if it was the battery or the charger that was at fault. Ulitimately, the charger should have cut off so I suppose technically you can blame it on the charger. As far as the black mess just put on some gloves and clean it up, its the remnants of your battery internals. Its not the same as a lead acid battery but prudence says why get it all over your hands? :)
Here is a good link for more information if yo are really interested in the whole science behind the battery and to learn more about proper charging and handling of your batteries:

Battery information from Battery University

It is a fantastic site and will help you become more educated about the subject.

Please update. What did the electrician say? Wall plug, charger, battery? You may be able to help others.

Indeed. Yeah these stories are, fortunately, no too common but people need to be aware these things can and do happen and it's best not to leave them charging unattended.

Indeed! The truth is these things can and do happen. I always counsel against unattended battery charging - not many people are willing to build a fire/explosion resistant charging enclosure.
