I tried to read this story but quickly grew bored, it was so ridiculous. If it is indeed true, which I suspect it is not, he needed a mental ward as the best place for him. Obsessive Compulsion and an addictive personality to that degree needs professional treatment.

Who else would you blame for their nicotine levels? But their nic levels are are based on replicating cigs, so don't go there. That kid was gonna get addicted to just about anything, and they're lucky it was not crack, alcohol, or opioids.

This looks like a dramatized story to provoke an emotional public response based on the current hot topic of vaping. Friggin' opportunism is what it is, it's like ambulance chasing. While I admit his addiction (and most addictions) is likely based on OCD, the wording of this article is designed to evoke emotional reactions and not based on factual reporting.
This is yet another sickening example of opportunism and how many people value personal financial gain/social status vs. facts, the truth, and is also an example of how personal needs can trump social needs.
If the changes were as apparent as the media photos (which I don't believe), the parents would have seen them in their son. If not then their son is either really good at hiding them, or his parents oblivious of what their son is doing, or in fact his existence.
I understand that kids can fool their parents, been there done that. What I don't get is why there is so strong an urge to blame nicotine as the 'DEVIL' here? I have a hard time believing a parent could see this and ignore it. I've seen parents do this multiple times on other issues, but for some reason it boggles the mind.
Let's hope this nation comes to its senses someday soon.

I have never vaped 50 nic mg ejuice and that's what Juul contains at 5%. Years ago even handling 50 mg had warnings. It's no wonder kids could get nicotine poisoning from too much. I agree the article is to play on emotions but it's possible he did have nic poisoning
JUUL is a high nic product and people should know that. There is something else about Juul that is troubling, it says it's pods have oil in them, a big no no for vaping. Personally I would never vape one, too high of nic for me and I don't trust anything with oil in it for vaping.
I can see he might have gotten nic poisoning with 4 50mg 1ml Juul cartidges/day. What I can't understand is how his parents allowed him to use nicotine and not understand that it is an addictive substance. They are adults and if they'd researched the topic instead of giving him approval they would have known. It's very common knowledge. When he started smashing dishes, it should have rung some type of bell. By the the time he OD'd it was around 1 year after starting. They approved his use, and as parents they should have been aware of the changes in their child. In fact they were aware as is stated in the article.
What I take issue with is the need to publicize the issue in order to shift the blame from parental responsibility to nicotine. This same type of argument has been used for illicit drugs, sex, guns, fraud, you name it. It boils down to "It's not my fault, because..." even if it's not said and implied.

Funny thing tho, after vaping and no cigs for 8 yrs, my nic level is down to 3 mg. I started at 18 to 12 and I just don't enjoy high nic levels at all anymore. Gives me a headache now.
The classic error with this one is sample size. Different people show different signs of, severity of, and speed of addiction. If the sample size is small enough and/or the test period is short enough it can be missed. Back in the day Jhonson&Jhonson had a hot new drug that they thought could stop the massive epidemic of opioid addiction sweeping the nation at the time (because the current one isn’t the first time this has happened). They did a very quick test on a few of the scientists working on the project and it didn’t look like there were any immediate problems so they rolled it out nation wide complete with free samples sent to sufferers and a hot new name for their product. The product name was, no joke, “......”. Yes. That drug. The big H. Named, invented, and marketed by Jhonson&Jhonson.
This is a reason why I’m not to hot on “salts”. The testing method was identical.
