I'm gonna buy a Riva 510 from Liberty Flights and I'm curious as to if it's more a matter of personal likes when choosing between the atomizer/cart route vs the cartomizer route. Also if there is one that ends up being less costly than the other. I'd prefer the easier cart route but easier isn't always better :) Also, am I correct in saying that the model above is the one where there isn't any fabric to soak up the liq but the cart is basically a tiny tank? Thanks btw to WomanOfHeart, Boodle, and dormouse for their help! o/

IMO carto's are way better than the cart.atty . thing , unless you plan on dripping . Then you need a few atomizers . The carts are not little tanks . Just little plastic tubes , with some sort of filler inside , to hold the juice . They tend to be kinda messy , and for most people , not worth the hassle . Carto's can last for a few days , up to several weeks , depending on what kind of juice your using . Darker , thicker juices tend to clog the carto's up faster , than the thinner , clearer type juices . Juices with more pg than vg , tend to work better as well . Hope some of that helps , and welcome to ECF .

So, I could switch from the atty/cart or carto I get w/the Riva 510 to the tank style carts? That's how it looks on the site, besides the rest is just a battery so so long as it's 510 fittable it should work. Excuse the made-up word :) The eGO-T just seems to be a higher priced kit that is no different from the regular eGO or Riva other than the tank atty/cart system.

The Riva kits at Liberty-Flights are sweet - theirs are all the new Eastmall model # 3.7v, 4.2v fresh off the charger and I notice the new black SE kits have a new 3-press disable/enable

atomizer + carts = ok for learning or an extended test of a juice or a thicker juice you won't put in cartos. If you restuff the carts with the Precut blue foam from strictlyejuice.com then you can rinse that out and pat it dry and one pack of carts will last forever.

atomizer + drip tip is great for trying juice samples, vaping occasional and thick juices etc

tank atty (has a spike) + tanks - some like them and some hate them. other tank options for EGo and Riva include handmade tank cartomizers of various prices and kinds (and many of these hold more juice than the Ego tanks and have replaceable CE2 cartomizer guts - I would wait to buy any of these since the CE2 version will probably be getting replaced with a CE3 version of the tank mods)

cartomizers - that is the way most people vape their favorite juices and the most popular and simplest cartos are Boge. I use thin juices in them, PG with 20% or less VG. I avoid using juices that seem to drop a lot of carto-clogging flavoring sediment. I can get 7-10 days use out of one Boge.

----
How I fill a cartomizer (Vapor4Life for KR8 or Boge 510 for 510 which are all soft-cap w/ no inner seals and defined central air channel)

I use thin (20% or less VG) liquid or Vapor4Life WOW liquids, preferably clear liquids w/ no sediment

Filling a blank carto - I pop off the soft cap (unbent paperclip carefully in the mouth hole, not catching any wires or stuffing!). I hold some tissue against the threaded end hole. I tilt the carto and slowly drip 18 drops (per ml of carto capacity and these are 1ml cartos) onto the inner wall of the carto so it slides down into the stuffing while I rotate the carto. Then I wait 15 seconds or so then I drip however many more drops the stuffing wants to soak up. Then I do clean-up. If it is leaking, I clean that up. Then I tilt the open end down into the tissue and puff hard a few times into the threaded end to clear any juice out of the central air channel (I want to see light through there). If it looks too wet above the stuffing, I gently touch a bit of tissue to the stuffing (otherwise that liquid will be gurgling or spitting in my mouth). Then since this was a fresh fill of a blank, I now let it settle. I lay the carto on different sides for 15-20 minutes. Then it should be ready to vape. If you use thicker juices than me, then you may need to let it settle longer.

As I am vaping - if the vapor gets a bit light or a bit dry or tastes bit off or the carto is getting unusually warm, I will take the carto off the battery, open it, add 6-8 drops or whatever it seems to want (I will either hold a bit of tissue against the threaded end hole just in case, or skimp on how many drops I add to make sure I avoid drips if I have no tissue). I check to make sure the threaded end is dry, give it a couple of puffs into the threaded end to make sure the air channel is clear, and continue to vape.

Note - it is easy for me to "open" my main cartos for adding juice because I replace the white end cap with a plastic or delrin drip tip (I get them at LiteCigUSA.net). So I can easily pull that out with my fingers when I add juice and it keeps my lips cool if the carto is hot.
