I hope this is the right section to ask this! I DIY my own juice and have been doing it since last July. Usually I'm pretty on top of things, but the other night I sort of winked out. I put my juice in amber bottles, and had made a batch that I wanted to give a "boost steep"...so I took off the lid and let it sit open in a dark-ish area of my dining room. Problem is: it was a place I don't usually put my steeping juice and I completely forgot about it! Anyway...yesterday it dawned on me what I'd done. At this point I have NO idea if I let it sit opened for 24 hours or 48 hours...but for however long it was, it was TOO long!! I usually only leave the lid off for aroud 20-30 minutes at a time.

Did I totally mess up my juice leaving it open like that so long? It's only 4mg. strength, and 85/15 PG/VG. Is my nicotine (little as it is) all messed up now? Will the flavor be much changed, do you think?

Hey forth. In regards to nicotine degrading there was a test done by one of the members here by leaving a small vial in the sun for week\s and noticed minimal loss in nicotine %'s . By leaving the bottle open I believe nicotine oxidizes, not anything to worry about. In regards to flavors, some flavors tend to benefit from having the bottle left open overnight and some do not get affected at all. This is from my personal experience. I do not think you will notice any difference from leaving it uncapped for 48 instead of 24 hours and should be good to go.

You were one of the first people to help me out and bare with me on my noobish questions when I first started out on these forums. Thanks again for that, much appreciated :)

What did you make if you do not mind me asking?

Since I mainly use a feeder nowadays, I've had eliquid in a tank, where there is an air path, for several weeks at a time before consuming/refilling. Yes, it oxidizes, but no, the eliquid hasn't gone bad. Should be fine.

(This doesn't need to go in DIY -- airing, evaporating off some alcohol, applies to some purchased eliquids, too. A few Dekang liquids were historically known for perfumey smell/taste, needed to be aired out.)

Yes...that is why I posted it here. I figure that "store boughten" juice frequently needs steeping too. Juice is juice, right? Anyway...sorry if it was in the wrong place!

To answer another question: It's menthol with a hint of peppermint. Not a complicated blend at all. Not even sure I NEED to steep it...but no one has ever told me definitively if a basic menthol/koolada/peppermint juice benefits from steeping or not. I haven't really noticed one way or the other. I do it because it seems to be the accepted thing to do! lol! Anyway...thanks everyone. I think things will be okay, then. Hopefully no dog hair wafted into it during that time, right?

I haven't heard of using open air (evaporation) for eliquid unless it has PGA -- it's used to evaporate some of the alcohol/reduce "perfumey" tones.

For non-alcohol liquid, steep with the cap on, whether standard (a long time just sitting there) or using an ultrasonic cleaner.
