Hope all has been well here in the community. Have been absent for a while but figured I'd see if I could get a few opinions on what direction to go in on a new regulated mod. Joined back in 2012 and have been a steadily vaping since. Been stuck on tube mechs & mech boxes for the past few years which has lead to me getting out of touch with the regulated side of the vape world. My edc has been a series mech box for the past 2.5 years. Recently I picked up a RX200 to run my Troll and Serpent SMM on. I have had a lot of resistance jumping on this mod which I figure is due to the 510 not being grounded to chassis of the mod and only being grounded to the board. On the troll I will occasionally vape 65-70w and on the Serpent SMM I am usually 35-45w. I have had my eye on the lost vape Therion DNA75 and don't mind spending the 100-120 on a well built mod. What I was wondering is would the Therion be my best choice for a regulated mod? Don't necessarily have to have a 150-250w box as I really don't vape that high on regulated now. I feel if I was going to go that high I might as well use one of the mech boxs in my arsenal with an rda. What does everyone think would be my best option for a well built reliable regulated mod in the 50-120 dollar range? Looking for a minimum wattage of 75 even though I might be able to make due with 60. Single or dual 18650 battery configuration is one must though. Got plenty of 18650's but haven't ever been a fan of 26650's. Thank you for your help on this.

I like mods with built in tanks, in this regard my favourite is the Ijoy Rtda box mod followed by a close second being the Smok Skyhook. When home and relaxing I go for the Maxo Quod running on 4 × LG2 18650 batteries with a Mello 300 sextuplet coil. When in the car or working out doors you cannot beat the indestructible Geek vape Aegis. Here is a pic of my home setup The Maxo Quod

I prefer 2 battery mods for the battery life, not because I want to vape at 200watts. I typically vape at around 60 to 70 watts on a .15 to .2 ohm coil. That said, I just bought 3 new mods that are well made and seem like they will hold up over time. My favorite so far is the IJOY Captain with the Captain RDA. I also purchased a Smoant BattleStar and a Charon 218. The Battlestar has been out for a while and I have not found any negative reports on it. The Charon 218 seems to have the same chip as the Battlestar and is sturdy and sleek looking.
I looked at the Therion also but like I said I want 2 battery mods for the battery life, but the reviews on the Therion are all good that I have seen.

I just got myself a shiny new wismec predator 228, it's a dual 18650 mod but i use it with a baby beast rba at like 45 watts for max battery life ( and because i like the heft it has) Before hand i had an Aspire nx75 mod, single 18650,75 watts and tiny with cute menu system once updated to lastest software.

Yep with my Ijoy rtda box mod I run it as my sweet spot around 60w with twin Jugganaught coil build. At that setting I get nearly 1.75 days of battery life. Just a note, don't let your batteries discharge all the way, recharge them when they down to about 25%. That way you get longer battery life in the recharge cycles.

Do you vape in temp control? If not, there's no huge advantage to having a Therion 75. There are lots of good 2 (and 3) battery mods that will do quite well in wattage mode. There's the Voopoo Drag, Smoant Batterstar and Charon 213, Smok Alien, the Minikins, and more. And yes, if you're going to vape at 70W for an extended period of time a single battery solution is just not the way to go, unless you like keeping lots of extra charged batteries around to swap in.

I also have Charon mods and am very pleased with performance. Heavier than Therion, but comfortable to hold. Eskie is right in that if you don't do tc DNA is overkill. I seldom use tc, but Therion is so nice in the hand worth extra expense for me.

If you want something smaller and more pocket friendly, IJOY has the Capo which takes a 21700 battery which should have a much better battery life than a 18650. It is 100 watts. Pair it with a Captain Subohm tank or RDTA and you will have a nice set-up, Kind of a Baby Captain Mod. I may get one for a little stealthy pocket mod for work. Did I mention that IJOY gives you the batteries and has onboard charging.

Just a heads up, Lost Vape seems to have a new dual parallel box coming out called the Paranormal, which also uses the DNA 75C chip. I don't honestly see what it's about aside from slightly different styling over the new Therion, but it does look quite nice and may be even more suited to your aesthetic sensibilities.

If you can find a shop with the Voopoo Drag as mentioned earlier, do so. That thing feels way, way nicer in the hand than it has any right to, especially with the (acrylic?) resin doors, which have a lovely soft touch. Thing works a charm and is priced really well, too, so if you can get past the awful logo pasted on the back, highly worth considering.

I believe the body is zinc alloy too, BTW, so you'll already be familiar with how nice that material can feel.

I don't have a Drag, but if I did, the first thing I would do is put a wrap on that side of the mod. Branding is one thing, screaming is another.

The Paranormal has a bottom battery door rather than the slide off back. Folks reported difficulties getting their batteries in and out with the slide back, but otherwise it is just a styling difference. I prefer the Therion as there are lots of backs you can swap around for a different look. The Paranormal only has two side choices (held by magnets so you can change them) but for now, only two choices. Maybe that will change down the road.

Wow I appreciate all the help on this subject. I would really like to vape in temp control but with the RX200 it just kicks me out even with a 316 stainless fused clapton coil (28gx3 core with 40g wrap). Just have boiled the RX200 down to a wattage only device as it doesn't seem to be able to handle TC mode. Haven't ever ventured into the squonking world but that may be something I look at later on down the road. I really like 2 battery mods also just for the battery life. I didn't ever like carrying around so many batteries when I was vaping tube mods. I usually swap my batteries out a little bit after half way on the battery meter. They read about 3.5-3.6v everytime I put them on the charger.

@Eskie @Letitia I would really like to vape in TC but the chip in the RX200 kicks me out everytime I try to even with a single 316 stainless .28 fused clapton coil. Will the Therion handle TC mode ok?

@Acer50 I am not too sure about built in tanks. Is that similar to a squonker? I am mainly using a Serpent SMM and sometimes will get the wild hair to build my Troll. Nice looking set up you have there though.

@gofishtx will the Battlestar or Charon handle TC mode? The copper looking Battlestar looks really nice. Also hope you were not effected too badly by Harvey in TX. I saw Texas in your screen name. Not really stuck on a pocket friendly mod. I have found the size/weight of the RX200 is almost perfect but that could be that I have coming from several years of vaping Hammond boxes.

@Voctor Viper I saw the Paranormal but wasn't a fan of the bottom battery door with the plastic hinges. For the price which I know is mostly the chip I thought they should have put a metal battery door or at least metal hinges. Very nice looking mod though I do agree. I wish of the 2 local shops one of them would have carried the Drag as I have seen some good reviews on it. I agree on the logo but at least it doesn't say VooPoo on the back. Not sure if they thought that name through haha.

@QcVaper does the predator have the same problem with TC as the RX200 does?

Welcome back. My opinion on a new mod is "yes, definitely, you need a new mod," but that may be my shinyitus talking. :)

The Therion is well thought of. There are any number of others to chose among, a bewildering variety. The real choice is what chipset do you want. If you really want TC, then an Evolv DNA board is the way to go as it is generally agreed they handle TC better than the YiHi chips. If you're a wattage vaper, the YiHi will perform as well, and last as long, as the Evolv; similar quality for less money.

If I were doing it, I'd probably buy two $50 mods and spend the other 20 or 30 bucks on another Serpent SMM. But that's me...

The Battlestar and the Charon 218 both are TC. I don't do TC so maybe someone familiar can chime in. The Battlestar is very similar in shape and size to the RX200 2/3 with 2 batteries but with a much better build quality (all metal) I got the Rainbow which is awesome but I want the Copper one too.
My 1st RX200 bricked after 2 weeks and the replacement had problems reading the atomizer. My 2/3 had the same problem with not always reading the atomizer. Needless to say I am not a fan of Wismec products. After having 2 Aliens fall apart at the same time and then the problems with the RX200s, I researched my next purchases real well and nothing but good things on the Smoants or the IJoys. Time will tell though.
We came thru the storm just fine, flooding all around us but we stayed high and dry. So many people that lost everything. Still trying to get used to the grocery stores being out of everything. Yesterday no fresh vegetables and people standing in line for eggs. Trucks are able to get thru to some parts of town now so things should start getting better. Thank you for your concern :)

PS.... and Dr Pepper, there are no Dr Peppers, I may have to make a long drive to another town to find Dr. Pepper and Cokes for the family

If you want to do TC with 316L, the Therion is a superb choice. Works like a charm. Extensive customization, and now with the 75c, even more you can do right on the mod instead of only in software using eScribe.

However, as already mentioned, if you want to run at 70W, you need a mod with more than 1 battery, and I would also look at a board that can deliver more than 75W. That leaves you in the Therion 166 territory, not a DNA 75/75c choice. There is as of now no 166/250c version available, just the original series. Which is OK as you can customize through eScribe. If you can hold out for a 166/250c release, and pay the premium on a new release, you can take that path. If not, a Therion 166 is a terrific choice for TC, especially with 316L and is pretty much the way I do all my vaping. There are other manufacturers who offer DNA based mods such as Hcigar and Think Vape, so you can look around, but I find the quality on the Lost Vape Therion/Triade stuff to be quite high.

There is another choice in the marketplace with YiHi boards such as the G class, which is also a superb performer, but there are subtle differences between the it and DNA boards so you should weigh them against each other and then decide if the price premium (as well as styling) on the G class is worth it.
