Coil installed

Wick led in with sewing needle. When you hit friction it unthreads itself.

Wickends split. Those going to other side feed between the posts.

Wet, trimmed, pressed into channels, and ready to go.

Remember to plug the airhole on the unused side with a bit of cornstarch.

Sorry for the low-resolution pix.

My first build works. 32 Gauge twisted kanthal at 12 wraps comes in at 1.7 on my Vamo. Two problems, the vamo does well enough but I think my Stingray will do much better (when it comes) and the only cotton I have is the crap my wife uses. It tastes funny. I guess I will just have to wait for my ... cotton to come as well. I would like to try using silica wick once but the stuff is brittle and I really don't see the point other than saying I did it. Any ideas on using silica wick?

I use cellucotton. Never tried it with silica, but you could make the coil on 3mm silica, using a pin to stabilize it. Install the coil, then clip one strand short on each end, and place the other two like with cotton, it should work. I have only tried regular cotton once or twice, didn't like it, then someone sent me some cellucotton. Given the huge packages it comes in, I am sure someone would offer to send you some. Never tried those makeup pads, happy with what I have.

I have also switched to ten wraps on a 2mm mandrel with the 32 ga twisted. Figured with longer legs, it was the better option. Now fairly consistent at 1.6 Ω, and much more satisfying popping sounds. Also watching to make sure I tighten the screws tighter-- nothing like the frustration of wandering Ω.

just curious -- how do you use cornstarch? does it affect flavor?
I moisten it a bit, and push a bit in. If the hole is already damp with juice, I put some (dry) on my finger and wipe it across the hole. I am currently evaluating whether any gets into the tank and juice. Good question, but I don't plug the working hole to see if I can suck any cornstarch into my tank-- so I don't think there is any problem with it. Cornstarch doesn't have any taste-- but burnt cornstarch could. Again, nothing detectable to me.

I just had an incident where the cornstarch got sucked into the coil, and the wick burned. Cleaned it out, and switched to a tiny ball of cotton in the opening. Just make sure you leave some fibers hanging out, so it is easily removed when you want to go dual. I got one stuck inside once, and it was a PITA to remove.

I just kept failing today in my dual coil build with some short... then I bolt to haaaard on the screw until the coild leg snatch by the screw...

So I thought what the heck, I will just leave it with single coil.... 1.2 ohm, the second air channel kept opened, and I just divide the wick into 4... and on the juice chanel that has no coil, I put the wick into the juice channel to block it a bit...
1 hour chain vape, no leak yet.... It still provide good flavor but vapor is not as much as what a dual coil would give. Not too shabby but just not as much as dual coil.
